What I know of as a sugar cream pie is different than what you had pictured. I grew up in Indiana, and to me what you had pictured I know of as an “old fashioned sugar cream pie.” No Thanksgiving, Christmas, or family reunion is complete without an old fashioned sugar cream pie.
I have never had a dense old fashioned sugar cream pie. The version you had is not representative of what I grew up with. It should not have any cheesecake quality.
It is more of a custard based pie, with a lot of sugar.

14:11 When you say that horseradish loses its punch quickly, just like wasabi does, it reminds me of a video I watched the other day that claims in USA only 1% of our "wasabi" is real wasabi. And supposedly only 5% in Japan is real wasabi. So 99% of wasabi sold and served in USA is actually horseradish. Same plant family as wasabi, but obviously an exponentially cheaper and easier to source plant than real wasabi. I already knew there was almost no real wasabi here. But their claimed number was even worse than I thought.

No offense, I was born and raised there, but once I ventured out and discovered new and delicious types of foods I realized just how "downhome midwestern" the food there is.
