I did not see this! I appreciate the note because normally you are so accurate! I had been asking myself why you would not include E-40 or if Too Short had retired ! Lol great videos man!
I'm a major fan of Ski Beatz. I think he produced Currensy whole Pilot Talk 2 album and every beat was dumb 🔥🔥🔥 It shows how people don't see your vision at first but you keep going. Illmatic didn't get love at first and now it's a landmark album in hip hop history. Good video Nav
I heard Ski filtered that sample because that was his only way of creating a bassline for that beat at the time. He said it on a beat breakdown video. I was like wow real producers are resourceful lol
Man I gotta listen to this album now after this video is over lol. Politics As Usual and Regrets are my favorite beats on this whole album. Love that vibe
Hi Keejay, I'm actually going to dispute the last part of what you've said here. You can actually find message boards in the early days of the internet where people talk about Illmatic for the first time and are blown away. You may not have been around then (and I wasn't listening to rap then) but people in my circle tell me that you had to be around to hear the hype that Nas generated from his feature on the Main Source's "Live at the BBQ".
That’s why rap is a detriment to the music world and a stain on music right now Y’all have been doing this for 40+ years and still only know 4/4 time signatures and stealing other peoples instrumentation in favor of Cheeto covered lackadaisical finger presses on buttons…
RD is maybe my favorite album ever ....the beats he picked where perfect for his style and I think the sound of that album is iconic to this day...my favorite song varies from day to day...the sign of a great Album...so I love Politics as usual, DPll , D'Evils, Can I live is probably my favorite most of the time, Coming of Age is also sweet and finally Bring it on
I remember doing beats in reason back in 09 i think and trend was to layer the sample and cut the high end on one layer and use that as bass. I thought that would never change 😂
Reasonable Doubt is not unsung. It's one of the greatest rap albums (top 10 - 20) of all time. It only suffers from anti ny bias. The arguments you'll here are only NY people were listening to it and If Biggie and Pac didn't die there would be no Jay Z. Those people fail to realize, it was an independent record, they only put 50 thousand copies in the store the first week. So it was hard to get outside of his primary core market. But once "Ain't No Ninja" it ignited the streets. The album sold 43k units the first week, after a year it almost was gold. After 4 more years it was platinum. Remember this was the CD's in store era. So people continued to actually buy the album for years once the discovered it.
Great work, as always! But to change the subject for a second 😅, how do you take care of the plant on your left? Mine lost the red in the leaves, and eventually died. And also, have you stuck with the stock stylus on the USB-LP? I’m getting insane distortion on the high end and I’m thinking the stylus could be replaced, but have no idea what to go for. 👐
love this video ... i am curious about why the 'better beatmaker' course didn't cover more boom bap and boom bap elements. I think most of your followers and subscribers are boom bap oriented, and the course was focused on trap. I liked that course but there were definitely some things missing that could have been added, just wanted to give a quick feedback
Nas doesn't as mentioned with Too Short and E-40 along with Ice Cube etc., but you are right Nas started in 91 with Live at the BBQ and his debut was 94! Jay came two years later! Facts.
You need to know you're going to be a silver fox.. you gotta come home my man it will be beautiful. Love your videos they make this so much more acceptable..
Even tho this is Nice to know... Nowadays that how se must roll, i talk for myself of corse but everyone must feel the same, having a team working towards the same
As per Clark Kent in his interview, Jay literally said himself he didn't know Notorious at the time. Even though they went to the same school, I don't think they knew each other.
Also can you do a video how to better sample on Serrato cuz I’m looking to purchase it. Any specific version of Serrato to get if better than NI software
I don't understand how Can't knock the Hustle was made. That little snippet couldn't have been it, but it was the song no doubt. What am I not understanding? LOL Great video for sure. I suck at bass lines though. Its crazy how they figured out all this back then with no internet. Too much money and time on top of talent. When you're talented and broke especially back then you almost had no chance. Being a drug dealer helped him out to get these guys who also sold drugs to get the equipment cause it wasn't cheap. Except for the moms house beat. CLASSIC
You can already tell Reasonable Doubt is a classic by the amount of behind the beat / beat breakdown story by the producers and engineers of the album. One of my fav hip hop album of all time for sure! Fav track Dead Presidents, Feelin it, can i live

KRS-One is still active today and has been releasing material since 1987. That's 35 years vs Jay-Z's 21 years. Jay-Z does not have the longest career in hip-hop.
Jay was on a track with Jaz-O when he was only 16 in 1986 that got some airplay here in New York, around the same time "The South Bronx" came out by KRS & Boogie Down Production in 1986. Look up Jay Z 1986, it's on CZcams.

Regrets is my favorite song on the album. The storytelling is magnificent.
One of his most underrated songs of all time.
Love that track
Should be second to “Feeling it”
Edit: I meant to say "one of the" in the first sentence
Also, sorry for the late upload! I had no internet. Hope you enjoy :)

Jayz had the most successful rap career
My favorite track from Reasonable Doubt is “Bring it On.”

That would be amazing

Reasonable Doubt was kinda corny, and he forced it to sale
This alongside Digging The Greats are goated channels.
Definitely
What makes you say that Jay Z had “the longest career in hip hop history?” Off the top of my head Masta Ace’s career has been longer.
Fat Joe would be there too
Ice cube KRS one 1️⃣
