Let's Talk About Wartales - First Impressions

Wartales is a strategy RPG by Shiro Games and it’d feel most at home with fans of titles like Mount and Blade, Battle Brothers, and XCOM. But let’s be real, this game is kind of the perfect fellowship simulator. I immediately used its character creation tool to name my archer: Legolas, my ranger: Strider, my tank Gimli, and my swordsmen Boromir.
Besides feeling like I’m constantly losing the war of the ring, Wartales is a cozy, comfy open world game that will absolutely frustrate you and bully you back into trying just one more run. I’ve put in enough hours to feel like maybe, I’d deserve to see more than just the opening area. But, no, I still feel very green, and very defeatable. This is the kind of game where you figure out one element of the gameplay systems, only to be devastated by a new emerging challenge.
It was this game that made me think maybe I’m just “a story mode” tactiction. Or maybe, I’ve angered the dice gods. Yet, I feel like by the same flip of the coin, I can and I should play this one on Ironman mode. Because, this is the kind of game that if you're really gonna have fun with it, you might as well take the pain as it comes. Embrace the misry.
I want to get better at Wartales. I think it’d be great as a handheld title. But for now, I’m playing this one on my XBOX Series X. Because With my console, I can capture the footage of all my pain, struggles and minor victories and share them with you today.
