Great video, but a couple of additions. First, you should always buy Grey Clusters from the rich merchant caravans (the ones that glitter, like at 5:22) to make Rimsteel later in the game if you plan on smithing. It's quite rare and hard to come by in decent quantity by the time you need it but it's cheap and so you should start stockpiling it early. Second, you should never take the last item from a chest near the major towns if you want to store goodies for later because you can never open them again if you empty them out. That Tiltren Lumbermill is actually one of the best places in the game to store stuff so it's best to always leave 1 item in the chests, even if it's just a piece of cloth or whatever. That may no longer be the case when they let us build our own trading outposts where we will supposedly be able to store stuff, but for now all we have are those loot chests. A final piece of advice is that there's currently a tiny exploit when it comes to storing items that gives you unlimited storage space from a single box. If you fill a box except for the bottom right slot and try to move a 2x1 sized item into that 1x1 slot, the item next to it will disappear. If you then remove that 2x1 item you will now have created a whole new row of item storage at the bottom where your missing item is now located. You can repeat this method to gain as many rows of storage as you need. Many people will probably find this pointless, but I'm a packrat so it's invaluable to me. It's especially important if you want to start storing spare weapons and armor because they take up a lot of space in these chests.
Terrific how-to guide, thank you. Immediate Sub and Like, looking forward to a good rummage through the rest of you videos now that I’ve discovered this fantastic gem of a game 😉.
Thanks, I’ve had a couple runs, but never knew about the refugee-selling trick 👍🏻 The only thing I’d add to your summary is to advise folks to focus on Move, Crit & Willpower. Cheers 🐹
Bunch of questions: 1.) Do I have to do the regions big quest thing? The mayor lady wants me to wipe out the refugees but I don’t want to, so I just kinda left. Do I have an option to choose peace or at the very least choose sides or am I stuck on the whole genocide the refugees faction? Secondly, are there consequences for just straight up ignoring the quest, because that’s currently what I’m doing. 2. What is the maximum party size? Are there any soft caps like a stat that needs to be importers in order to be able to recruit more or is it just free to recruit as many as it allows as fast or slow as I want? Do animals like captured wolves and horses count towards that limit? Do they have their own limits? Also how many horses is too many/little? 3. I forgot what three was. Fuck. Oh yes, do the chain at the jail regent? How often? Is capturing enemies even worth it? Are the a security threat while my prisoner? Can they escape or steal my stuff? How do I get rid of the prisoners do I have to go back to the prison every time or can I just sell them off at any patrol I find? How many prisoners can I keep at a time? 4.) What does allowing my enemies to escape do other than give me less loot? 5.) What purpose, other than canalbalisn do human bodies have like why is that considered loot.
1. You do not have to complete the main story missions if you don’t want to, the world is fairly open for the most part. that being said some recipes and items are locked behind story missions. There aren’t any major changes for either choice in Tiltren and no lasting recipes or whatnot you’ll be missing out on. 2. There is no maximum party size. If you can feed and pay everyone you can keep them. I’ve seen party sizes over 40 before. I personally try and stick to the 6-8 number because combat takes forever if you go over 12+ units on adaptive. Horses are pretty much grab if you need to carry more weight, but they’re fairly useless once you unlock trading posts for storage. I typically have 2-4 work horses. 3. Take your time, I’ll answer any questions you have in my comments :)
3. updated: Chains will be resupplied I believe every few days / week. Capturing bandits and outlaws while also doing contracts is VERY lucrative and is my personal favorite way to generate income. Prisoners may escape depending on how you position your units/prisoners. They cannot steal your items, but can run away (which sucks if you're trying to recruit them) and in order to collect the bounty from them you must take them back to the prison to turn them in. You can hold as many prisoners as you want, but you can only trade in 3-4 prisoners a week at each jail. 4. Allowing enemies to escape only affects some loot drops and XP, it's not the end of the world. 5. Corpses can be used to create hide/leather and dried meats with the correct camp equipment and research.
Hakert is always a solid pick, as is Torus. I tried to only give core mechanics to help out new players with economy management instead of giving them spoilers to all of the fun stuff. Then again you could argue the three points of interest I went over were spoilers lol
Great video, I'll start the game again I think, I got as far as Vertruse. What do you think is the best band composition? I had taken the ones that ran away from their captain. And then what traits to take to creation? There might be a video on it, I didn't pay attention.
There’s a trait video as well ;) but taking carrying capacity as a malus while grabbing bloodthirsty and quick are my personal go-to’s. As for composition I just go with what feels nice. I like always having a swordsman and then either a spearmen or a warrior. Ideally all three.
You gave us 6 professions named but only 4 choose able what would you take? Blacksmith, Miner, Thief, Cook, Tinker, Alchemist, all mentioned but we can only take 4 in the start. Whats the priority?
This will be somewhat long winded, sorry in advance. Something that may not have been covered in this video is that you can change professions and you’ll still retain your level. So what I typically do is prioritize the profession that will benefit the unit the most in combat, and have a secondary profession they level on the side when it’s convenient. The easier professions to level are typically your crafting professions, such as cook, blacksmith, and alchemist. They’re easier to level because you can stockpile materials and then change to that profession in town and craft in bulk, and then change off the profession. The gathering professions take much longer to level up, and due to this they should be prioritized in my opinion. So mining and woodcutting are big ones to get leveled up and used because they’ll help you gain resources needed for blacksmithing. Thief gives great stats as well. Fishing is okay, but not the best, so it’s okay to leave that one to the side. Cook is valuable since you can have a cook working at a pot in camp to reduce food consumption. Ultimately my starting four would be: - woodcutter - miner / blacksmith - cook - thief / alchemist Once I hire more I’d roll my gathering classes to the new recruits and leave the crafters who have more XP as dedicated crafters until they master the profession.
So since the full release, have they patched the prisoner for gold method? I've been playing last couple of days and I only get a warrant reduction for delivering prisoners, no gold.
Do single crafts! If you’re making bulk items such as throwing weapons only make one at a time, and it will earn more xp that way. Also make sure you don’t have anyone that’s lazy (I think that’s the right trait that reduces profession experience rates)
i find that beating up the slavers at the sawmill might make you a little less money/influence/logs in the long term but carries the larger benefit of not having to play the game as a human trafficker.
This is not an Ultimate beginner's guide....30 seconds into the video and you already skipped over all of character creation. I'm a beginner, the beginning is important to me.
That is a very good point, unfortunately this video was created before there were more advanced beginning options (as this was during early access). I’ve covered campaign starting options in a separate video, but if you have questions that you want answered feel free to ask them :)
I think I got Wartales a week ago. Who knows it could have been months. I played a good 20 hours learned a lot watched some videos and then jumped in again. This game is amazing and I love how much time it takes. I wonder when my family moved out😂. Jk. But it will consume you

All really good advice! The storage related tips will soon be outdated with the addition of trading posts during the next major update!

I keep going back to battle brothers. This game doesn't have enough RNG or fantasy creatures to keep me hooked.
Ultimately, this is my sentiment as well. I believe Battle Brothers is both more challenging and has a much higher replay-ability factor.
One thing I do from the start is pick up the guy from the place just south of the farm for 1 medicine.
