I show a few different ways to repair a New cracked glass iPhone. The first is with a refrigerant that can be purchased on Amazon called tetrafluoroethane. (amzn.to/2K7RGum) This almost worked... But still wasn't cold enough. I then tried using Liquid Nitrogen to repair the back glass on my iPhone 8. This took about 10 minutes. BUT liquid nitrogen is not as easy to get a hold of.

Finally I try using heat to remove and replace the back glass on the iPhone 8 plus. This took about a half hour. But was extremely difficult. Holding a phone that has been heated to 350 degrees F, is super dangerous not only to your hands, house, and desk, but to your phone as well. The phone is not designed to be heated to that temperature.
Apple charges CRAZY amounts for out of warranty repairs on these phones. If you dont have insurance, it is 399 dollars to repair your iPhone 8 plus, and over 500 dollars to repair your iPhone 10. Highway robbery right there.

Love your videos, thank you! My back glass unfortunately broke, and it's chipping off on its own bit by bit. Like a scab, I may have helped it a bit along the way. I had seen this video long before, but scabs are scabs... I've got about 50% of the glass off and things have become stubborn. Mostly around the wireless charging bit, but about 40% of the glass is gone at the bottom as well. Any tips on doing a patch job so I don't have to go through the heat / cold treatment? Not too keen on getting a fancy laser either... (saw that new video, nice!) Thanks again for the awesome videos!!!

TheScavenger101 cutting away from your body is something you tell children that are first learning to use knives. Using your thumb like that to help stabilize what you're cutting gives you much more accuracy and control, though that's pretty much common sense. I personally would probably use a glove. This video has always prevented me from doing the back glass only replacement but I attempted it today with a heat gun and it was insanely easy, easier than replacing the entire housing and it took about 30 minutes total to remove all the old glass.
Any tips? I'm attempting it soon
@@yaboiavery5986 if you’re attempting this on the iPhone 8 Plus I would recommend to disassemble the device first, take out logic board and other fragile components, otherwise really just keep the heat gun far away and avoid prying the glass, just try to slice the glue underneath

@Dat Weeb, all fluorides and fluoride compounds are most toxic and dangerous to human health.
I work in industrial automation electronics systems technology and engineering and I'm wondering how Apple could replace that in any way shape or form. They literally intentionally glue the entire back of the phone to the frame.
My conclusion is... They don't. They just chuck you phone in the trash and send you a new one after transferring your data. Either that or they have a seriously precise machine controlled system to remove that adhesive. Screen repairs are a little easier a can be done which is why those are less expensive.
Either way it's a little ridiculous.
Pfitz they give you another phone and send the cracked once back in China to get their components moved in another shell.
The fact that replacing the OLED display assembly is cheaper than replacing the glass is kinda ludicrous. I wonder who triggered the "Right to Repair" fight. 🤔
They move the internals in to a new, uncracked shell.
UnicornsOnLSD well the screen anyways and the internal attached to that. The rest of the internals would require separating it from the back glass which is obviously impossible to do cleanly.
European Confidence well let's look at it as cost vs profit. We know it doesn't cost them 1000 dollars to make that phone. The reality is it probably costs around 150 bucks each phone. 200 at the most. So they sell it to you initially and you give them an 850 dollar profit or so. Then you drop your phone and the back breaks. Well nobody else but Apple can fix it since it's impossible to repair. So you have to send it to Apple who charged 575 dollars to repair anything other than the screen. So Apple swaps the screen for that of another phone and sends it back to you and all the while profits another 425 dollars in profit again. Since after all the price of sending you an entire new phone to them is 150 bucks and this time they get to even save a little more by not sending a new screen.
Screen repairs are the same. They charge the price of the entire manufacturing cost of the phone to swap screens.

Tetrafluroethane is also used in compressed air can that are used for cleaning dust, which I have a fat stack of sitting around.
My favourite things to do with it are, turning the can upside down to get the compressed liquid at the nozzle, and spraying it out. I've frozen pennies and made them slide across the table like an air hockey puck, I've also sprayed the stuff in plastic bottles, sealed the bottle, warmed it up with warm water and I basically have a homemade rocket whenever I open the lid because of the pressure gradient. I've also sprayed it directly on my hand to see how cold it is, and it never burnt me due to it's low specific heat capacity and the Leiden frost effect, but I have gotten a small rash when I mixed the stuff with water (Which turned into ice) and poured it on my hand.
I've may or may not of frozen a couple spiders too....
I mean, apparently it's the least painful (and the most convenient) way to do it.
Anyways, the stuff is amazing. It's basically like the more accessible version of liquid nitrogen, since pretty much nobody sells liquid nitrogen in the UK or online, but this stuff is pretty much everywhere, although a bit expensive.
(The best price I found is £35/$50 for a pack of 12)
That stuff is a global warmer. It's banned in many countries already. I don't wanna be a drag, but using cans of it to have fun is pretty bad for the environment.
