Lucky for us, there is now an easier way to replace the back glass on your iPhone 8, iPhone X, or even iPhone 11. And that is with the new Laser Separator machine. I didn't notice it in the video, but in case you didn't mention it, proper eye protection should be used around that laser. You can catch a stray reflection and lose partial to full sight in one or both eyes.

This is the first time I am watching him saving the life of a phone instead of destroying it 😅
A thing to note with this: when we repair the backs on iPhones at my job, we place laser absorbing tape over the camera lenses. Especially with the white backed iPhones, sometimes you can get lasers refracting and COMPLETELY wrecking the camera lenses. Now, we don’t use quite as nice of a machine probably, but I would still maybe keep that in mind
That was one of my first thoughts. Even when it's unlikely to happen, I wouldn't feel comfortable with an exposed lens this close to the laser.
On the other hand I also wouldn't feel comfortable removing cracked glass without some gloves.

Well it isn’t that bad… I had a Laser Damage on my Sony Camera. Camera cost about 2k and the Sensor repair was just 1.800€, They did that for 0€ as a One timer 🥰 such a Bargain. Almost scraped it and got a new one … 😅😂

Im rocking a iphone 8 plus I bought from my mom once she upgraded to 10, one time broke the screen/backglass from a nasty 2 story fall, managed to repair it to almost new condition with refurbished parts myself, did several battery replacement over the years, did a jailbreak and stopped updates, I gotta tell, 5 years later, still using it rock solid.

He brought it to the local Apple store and they told him that because he didn't have applecare he'd have to pay up a little over $500. Well the issue is my friend has applecare, and he has bank statements that shows that he pays monthly for it. The apple guy told us basically that because his computer says he doesn't have it, he doesn't have it. Friend went to the Verizon store a little ways down and got a new phone deal that's cheaper every month and he loves it way more than the iPhone

Actually phones made under Jobs' supervision weren't difficult to work on. The iPhone 3gs for example has labels on its internal screws that tell you in which order you should take them out. Not sure if he liked that though

Knowing Apple, they would find some way to make their smartphones such that replacing the backing glass or plate, bricks the device.
That or, as other commenters have said, would make the material opaque enough that a laser would no longer suffice to weaken or remove the adhesive.
Glad to see folks finding ways to work around Apple's anti-repair practices, hope to see this continue for many years moving forward.
