- After scratching phones for the past 8 years... now its time to figure out how to remove scratches and make phones look brand new again. The machine we use is this one: shop.rewa.tech/detail/refox-a... This video is not sponsored. In this video we see how much work is involved with getting minor scratches removed from smartphone displays. Can we remove a level 6 scratch? We'll see what levels of scratches this machine can get rid of.

He used to use level 8 before but the reason he stopped at level 7 now is because level 8 can damage the whole integrity of the screen, making the bend test less reliable. I think he got that recommendation from Erica Griffin.

Totally agree! @JerryRigEverything
would it matter if you stick a new screen protector, after? no
@@Ensource it would matter. the screen underneath the screen protector could still crack if you drop it
@@Ensource
It would because screen protectors do very little to stop shattering, especially since most screen shatters hapoen if the phone hits the grind on its side - an area not covered by the *screen* protector.
Very informative and good thing to know something like this exists! Thanks for sharing!
The actual depth of those level 6 scratches is microscopic but due to the highly polished surface it’s very easy to see due to changes in the refraction properties of the glass in that area. If you made the same mark on, say a matte plastic surface you wouldn’t even be able to see it. For this reason I don’t believe it will compromise the strength in any meaningful way.
The level 9 groove has actually removed a substantial amount of glass rather than just disrupting the refractive properties of the glass, so the buffer machine would probably never be able to buff it out
This is a historic moment. We have finally made it to the level 8 and level 9. It brings same satisfaction as beating a video game.

“Level 6 and deeper grooves at level 7”🤤🤤🤤🤤 the best feeling I ever had 🥰🥰🥰
1:46 Damn that expression change🥶
Oh dang never seen one but ima try it out
That machine is dope
So as of today we learnt the new taxonomy of scratches :
Level 6: scratches
Level 7: deeper grooves
Level 8: gauges
Level 9: scores
Imagine the plastic taxonomy
So. To get rid of scratches... you just scratch it so much that it loops around to not being scratched.
That feels like some major reverse psychology-esque stuff.
Ya that's typically how buffing and polishing works
With physics, there’s never a free lunch though. You make the glass even thinner, compromising the strength quite a bit more so if you drop it once you could easily shatter it vs the original thickness of the glass.
Used to do the exact same thing with DVD's.
@@cjxgraphics remember that disk spinning thing called like scratch doctor or something? It left a weird looking pattern on the back but to to the laser reader it saw a perfectly surface 😂

God: oh cool have a gravitational pull
@Obamium yeah but if glass scratches at a level 6 and 7, I can rip off the screen protector and install a new one and boom brand new looking screen with zero scratches!
the issue with the screen protector ,is they decrease screen quality, what is the point in getting 2k oled screens ,if its distorted by a screen-guard
@lolli pop the thing with screen guard is they add unwanted glare and dull the screen
@@siva4342 You’ll be happy to know that I’ve personally tested many amazon, eBay, online brand of screen protectors for clarity because I hate dullness and haze too (especially with OLED inky blacks) and I came to this conclusion:
The *only* brands of screen protectors I’ve ever tested that looked virtually perfectly optically clear are: The highest end Belkin UltraGlass that they install at the Apple store and or the highest end Zagg InvisibleShield. The problem is they’re expensive $$$ ($50+) but they retain all of the screen’s luster AND they’re have higher resistance to scratches.
Trust me I hate how most glass screen protectors make the screen duller or hazy or make the OLED blacks seem more gray but the brands mentioned are the only ones doing it right. I think they actually spend money on the adhesive being optically clear when adhered. Along with the higher quality, thinner, stronger glass
Good engineers bring awesomes working tools for the professionals of phone repairs. I guess, if prices of a such a task is reasonnable, it could influence people in a more durable way, choosing to repair instead of buy new.
Edit : but, i think it would be a smart thing to know what the exact thinning measuring is for every type of glass per minutes of use. Cause in the end, i guess it may damage the screen or make it tactily unresponsive (for the little i could guess of phone glass)
I'm not sure if this is worth it over a new screen... I guess what engineers could do is a way to have the front glass independant from the screen, but everyone has sexy phone mentality...
I like the way Jerry said "it would be game over" 😊
I've been waiting all this time to know what Zack would say to describe level 8 and 9. Today I learnt. It's gauge and score.
