- Dave Chappelle says his small hometown of Yellow Springs, Ohio, has such a tight-knit community that no one was surprised to see him appear at the town hall.

"You're one of the most important voices comedy has."
Wow... that is high praise coming from Chappelle.
Two stone-cold gentlemen with two seperate but equal fan-bases(ssesssessss) //
@@violetbrown8998 love these two
@@JS-ri8qc much respect.
@Nicholas Fouch agree
@Nicholas Fouch Except being called the funniest comedian
I loved what he said about no cell phones at his show and recalibrating our ears. Much needed in this decade.
Such a juxtaposition considering this is a youtube comment lol
Because everyone pretends to be offended for self gain these days
True dat!
Dave puts on a great show but snowflakes shouldn't good because they'd get "butt hurt" when Dave crosses the line of not being politically correct. Makes me smile....
I live in Ohio. A little bit south from Yellow Springs. Dave is right. Yellow Springs is like an old hippie town. Super chill up there (lots of coffee shops and healthy stuff) so yes, the cop probably did overreact. Dave is the man though. Just another one of the guys.
I went to college in Yellow Springs decades ago, and didn't know that Dave moved there. Very cool!
I went to Wright State University (in Fairborn, about 15 minutes or so from Yellow Springs for those not from around here), and was once in a Poli Sci class where somebody explained they walked in late because they saw Dave on campus. And I was at that New Years party but left before the cops tried to break it up. Dave explained the place pretty well but I'm not sure the weirdness of the ball drop can be fully explained to anybody who hasn't visited. It's sort of slung over a clothesline in the middle of the street.
I used to live in Kettering, OH and Yellow Springs isn't too far from there. We used to go up there for fun. It's a super hippie town.
Kristen yeah the streets are super close together. definitely like a city on the east coast or even like DC
Beth Ann YS was my chill spot and I'd seen Dave walking down the street many times. I was too nervous to say hi, but it was no big deal to everyone else.
You can genuinely see the utmost respect for one another. A little drop of hope.
The smartest and coolest of them all, love Chappelle 🤘🏻💗
Oriolez .
Dave is truly a very intelligent deep thinker. It shows...
We love chapelle too, but man he is stoned like shit!
Dave Chapelle is a real class act. Well spoken, mild mannered and just a straight up cool guy. Much love.
I wanna chill wit chappelle for a day.
One of the best comedians of our time 👏🏻
Charles Gill totally agree! 😊
He doesn't need to compensate with humor when having and intelligent conversation. He was very engaged!
+Fast Pit I doubt it. It's from smoking. Smokes rip your larynx and sinuses to shreds and they're the key voice modulaters. It sounds like classic smoker's voice.
Iirc from my lecturers, steroids give men a higher pitch and women get a lower one.
I would argue the greatest comedian of all time. Neck and neck with Louis ck. On a side note, was louie ever convicted of anything? Or did they even need a conviction after he lost millions of dollars.
Of all time
Dave just has that level of cool 99% of us aspire to reach. He is a smart guy and seems like an awesome human being.
Dave has enough clout and money now to bring the Chappelle Show back on his own terms, maybe self produced and distributed by Netflix. Do it, Dave!
There's a reason he stopped. It wasn't fulfilling
+MrY Wrong. Dave walked because corporate handlers at Comedy Central were trying to control every aspect of the show and his life. None of that would be an issue if he produced the show himself.
I don't think that was the reason man. His sketches didn't seem like they had any corporate aspect. I think he just didn't like getting screamed stuff like "I'm rich bitch" by hi fans all the time.
watch the second episode in his latest netflix special where he explains why he left. it has nothing to do with it not being fulfilling.

Dave Chapelle: Humble, Smart AF, and exceptionally talented! I LOVE that he gave Colbert props at the end, classy MoFo move!
I once ran into Chappelle at a sushi restaurant in Fairborn OH... his kids kept trying to pull the swords off the wall. One of the funniest and most terrifying 60 minutes of my life.
Nike I, an equally loud person, disagree.
@@JoshSweetvale Although I am but moderate in volume, I would like to offer my agreement or disagreement, whichever is more agreeable.
@@nmarbletoe8210 ^_^
Did he or anyone else ask them to stop? hahah In Y. S. we like to let our children & animals run free!!! My dog would run away so many times!! One time the police came to my house & asked if I owned him & they said they had him at the station so they went & got him. The Officer said, "O.K. he had three milk bones & some water!!" I was shocked as hell because they said they called my mother & somehow they tracked HER down from my dog's license but I haven't talked to that bitch in a couple of years hahaha!!! That Yorkie was always gone...if the door was open he was OUT!!! He was like 4 lbs!!! If people would leave him alone, he'd come home!!! I'd put a sign up downtown, "Missing Yorkie." One girl actually gave him a HAIRCUT!!!! Why is the first thing 'y'all do is cut somebody's hair when you find them!!"
oh yeah.. he does love sushi and gets it for dinner whenever he's in New York.
Cause he said the fish in Ohio taste funny
The respect that these two heroes have for each other makes my heart warm.
Authentic cat... no bullshit to him. Genuine, smart, humble, cool. A rare one... we're lucky to be around to witness him.
a detrick you understand...good for you!
a detrick accurate analysis you have there .
This dude was hilarious growing up and watching him late at night. 12 probably wasnt old enough to watch his skits tho lmao
watch his netflix specilald, he is even more funny.
*specials
Roberto Sotelo Oh My God he looks so oollldd nowww, i feel old
james malik Aitken ikr...
Not as hilarious as Nick Cannon.
Loved him in Undercover Brother, so underrated
Turbid TG1 did you know that he first spy camera was made out of a peanut? A peanut!
came here just to say fuck yeah, dave chappelle
wubbalubba dubdub He's not funny, but Hi!
Orionz what?
Orionz just type in Dave Chappel in the CZcams search bar. And I bet you $100, if you don't fall in love with him. Unless you are a racist!
King In The North OK did that. I can see why you want to believe he's funny. I just think his stuff is very weak. Don't get me wrong I do laugh at him, but that is mainly because of his personal problems. I did learn a bit about Race Relations in the US though. (It's not good).
Hylian Ticipated - great username. Pathetic post though.
Dave chappelle is BUFF AS FUCK BOI!
ikr? DAMN
That's how he is in his new Netflix specials. At first I thought he was "fat" from being away, but no - the man is SWOLL!
www.poffysmoviemania.com/dave-chappelle-deep-in-the-heart-of-texas/
dave chapelle on steroids so sad 0 work
He lived on a farm in Ohio of course he got buff
Ann3 Ann3 that ain't roids
Everytime I see Dave give an interview, he is just dropping pearls of wisdom.
I didn't think I could respect Chappelle any more than I already do and then he gives props to Bernie Sanders (again). Love it.
I worked at the movie theater at the Beavercreek Mall (Like half an hour from Springfield) And he would come in every now and again to see Matinees and it was never really a big deal. And one day I was working behind the concession stand and the usher came up with a $20 in his hand and said he needed a popcorn and some bottled water for one of the guests. And I was like, dude you know were not allowed to bring guests stuff in the theater or accept money when they're not present. But he said, man it's for Dave. And I was like, OK cool, I'll give him some extra butter and salt (cause it's better that way) but you gotta let me walk it in there to him too, and he said sure. So we walked their food into them. It was Dave and some friend of his. And I'm not saying they were high..... But they were high..... :-) Like high as shit :-) and we give them their food and they say thanks and then my friend the usher goes to hand him his change, and Dave says No keep it. And then Dave reaches his hand out and shakes my friends hand and says thanks again. So we leave the theater and my friend says "I think he gave me a tip when he shook my hand" and he opens his hand up and there's like 100 bucks in 20's and 10's. My friend gives me 10 bucks of it and keeps the rest. And I said "Hey I should get half, I carried the stuff and broke the rule to sell him stuff in the theater" and my friend says, "Yeah, but I was the one talking to him, noticed he was high as shit and suggested he get some popcorn and water" and I said, yeah, that's fair, you get the bigger tip.
That's my true Dave Chappelle story.
EDIT:
I also used to work at the Beavercreek Best Buy, and we would see him come in there every now and again too. He held the record for the largest gift card bought for that store. The story was that he wanted to buy a friend of his a new TV (This was at the time DLP's were just starting out and were REALLY expensive) and a sound system and Blu-Ray player (Blu-Ray players were new too and super expensive) but he couldn't decide what to get his friend, so he whips out a Black Card and just buys a $5,000 gift card to give his friend. That's my other true Dave Chappelle story.
Corporal Unger
Damn that Netflix money is some good shit lol. And I'm glad Netflix gave him the 60 mill. Listening to some of his interview before the Netflix deal you can tell he regretted not getting the 50 mill from Comedy central for not signing to do another season of the Chapelle Show. Lol and sounded to me like his wife REALLY regretted him not getting the money.
Corporal Unger groovy story man. Perhaps your friend will spring for the next sixpack.
@Jason React You know why he walked away, right? He was supposed to get at least 6x's that much. They reneged on the original agreement and they wanted more control over the content of the show. Off to Africa! I just can't believe all the lies that were told about him. I don't blame him. He felt that was the place to go where he wouldn't get mobbed by people. I imagine they treated him well and with respect. I would have loved to be there to see his comedy skits there if he did any. We missed out big time no doubt.
Corporal Unger cool story!!
I'm from Beavercreek too! Class of 09
I go hiking in Yellow Springs all the time, but have never gotten to meet Dave
Colbert had to cut it off there at the end. He didn’t want to cry on national television.
Yup!
Dave Chappelle is easily one of the most intelligent, well spoken, level headed, and mild-mannered guys on Earth.
4:59 The ultimate bro love moment
Geez that talk about recalibrating our ears... that was deep and came out of nowhere! These two people are legends man!
Iron Fan Chapelle’s a legend. Colbert is not.
Lmao dave makes a hell of analogy lol
Chapelle is so damn cool!
What an immense compliment he gave to Colbert! I think that’s a big deal coming from someone like Dave.
the respect these two have for each other is giving me chills
Dave is such a genius about the phone thing. How we have missed you on TV we need you!!! wish i could go to his show asap.
"We do a thing at this show, at my concerts, where nobody has a cell phone. So all this like, comedian witch-hunt stuff, it doesn't happen in my shows. I have a wide margin of error and a lot of crazy things get said and done. It's an opportunity for artists to really flex their muscles without the fear of the repercussions of the overly sensitive. And we all gotta kind of recalibrate our ears a little bit so that we can actually hear each other, and understand each other, and I think comedy and music is one of the best ways to do that."
Dave Chappelle-

Stenographer by the name of -John Browning
You know we watched the same clip as you did bro

@Kaizaro123 Maybe because it's a highlight of the video whose impact deserves to be amplified with a supplimentary transcription.
@Kaizaro123 And here I was thinking _my_ point spoke for itself. By your logic, transcription of _anything_ important is redundant.
Dave Chappelle for president.
Mutual admiration & respect. Nice. Love both these gentlemen.
Dave as Krusty = awesome.
When Dave Chappelle says you're one of the most important comedians, you know you've made it big
When I listen to Dave Chappell he just seems like a genuine guy telling stuff about his experiences great story teller ☺️ thanks
Never leave us again, Dave! LOL
Alright the last bit about comedy and music and then calling Stephen one of the most important voices comedy has, was really touching and I'm not ashamed to admit that it made me go awww. Dave's a real stand up guy.
Two of the best comedians in one spot = Awesome
See that at the end where Dave’s eyes teared up, that’s because he believes in what he is saying and amidst the comedy he makes you can tell he genuinely has a healthy outlook to share...
Better than Grape Drink
2 of the most influential comedians on television ever nice to see
Smart people enjoy Dave Chappelle
that gets my dick hard
His Netflix special was overhyped imo, I didn't really laugh that hard at it.
And dumb people enjoy Colbert
Dave is pure legend...I would love to see that show at radio city!👍😎
Loved this. Two legends. They should cohost an informal show together.
"I'm like the local Krusty the Clown." . . .LOL!!
You can't help but like this guy
I love having my home town mentioned on TV.
The best of the best and still so humble.
Chappelle just earned a helluva lot more respect from everyone. What a great American.
Two of the most brilliant comics together. Thanks, guys!
Dave Chapelle really is a class act... brilliant, hilarious, truthful, and ultimately, just a solid family man too.
Much love for you, Dave and Stephen.
The fact that he still remembers that Bethesda is the red line!!! 🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾
The Chapelle Show needs to come back! #TheChapelleShow
"I think you're one of the most inportant voices comedy has." If I heard the from Chappelle, I'd be sweating from my eyes a bit.
Nothing but LOVE for Dave!
Damn Chapelle gave Stephen a HUGE compliment at the end there. Coming from him that's giant.
recalibrate our ears so we can actually hear one another!!!
YES!!!
My two all time favorite comedic icons having a sit down?! This is literally the only Late Night interview on youtube that I've ever watched and probably ever will!
What a freaking Legend!!!
Well said 3:50 - 4:20
KJ, well said....
Well said Steven
indeed! 100% of the words he said was perfectly put.
Definitely. When I first heard about it I figured it was one of those things like "people don't interact with eachother anymore, phones are evil" thing - but this has really put it into perspective for me.
What he means is he's gonna say a lot of racist shit, as as long as its only a few fans that hear it, theyll look the other way because hes their idol. And yeah, it does hurt me to say it because I am a fan, and I prolly would let it go, but that doesnt mean I should.
Yo Dave! Thanks for backing up Austin Texas!! “Yeah but without the money and fun things to do at night” 💯
You can feel the energy Dave had towards the end. The humbleness was leaking.
My two favorite comedians
HE JUST CALLED ON THE RED LINE!!!! WHOOP WHOOP
Greatest comic EVER!!
love this interview
Dave is just an incredible person
Same Hero....NEW BOOTS!
shoutout to MD and the red line!
love these 2 guys, great chat
He is just ground breakingly great!! A true man of his word. He speaks up and it's fabulous! No one gets hurt either. He speaks up about the right things💜
Stephen Colbert can't take a compliment...🤣
Very laid-back, honest and quotable interview. Felt quite un-American. I love it!
The audience on the other hand...
I love it when the people I admire have mutual respect for each other's craft. Both just comedians at their core.
I would go to that town for New Years.
Dave is awesome.
lol i work in yellow springs, and Dave Chappelle's wife comes in about 3 times a month. They're really nice people!
Donald Hughes hey I also work in yellow springs
I used to hang out in YS all the time and it was everyday business to see Dave walking down the street. It was really no big deal. I now live in indy and miss YS sooo much.
Love you Dave!! Come to Los Angeles!!
One party a year at new years and the cops come and bust it up at midnight every year? Real nice.
"The repercussions of the overly sensitive." Ah....well said. 👌🏽
Dave we need you! Chapelle ❤️ Spread dat love😘😘
"I'm like the local Krusty the Clown".
greatest of all time, thanks for the inspiration.
Proud to have Dave Chappelle as a fellow Ohioian.
Great compliment from a great person!!
What an iconic interview
Comedians flex their muscles without the repercussions of the overly sensitive. He done flexed those muscles real good for his Netflix appearance #SticksAndStones #MoveFastAndBreakThings
now compare these two having a conversation to Fallon and kevin hart !
Why? Why do you have to compare comedians like that? It's immature as shit. Just enjoy the show.
you are what dave chappelle means by the overly sensitive
Kevin Hart would be talking loud as shit while Fallon interrupts him every 2 seconds
I don't know why i shouldn't compare two stand up comedians and two talk show host to each other ?! lol
lol i wasnt talking to u i was talking to alexander
What a great interview
4:47 Sounds like a line from John Wick: "How back are you?"
Love the no cell phones thing, preach
Dave for President!
JPD Man that would be something
My two favorite comedians! Love these intelligent guys ❤❤ Truely the best in comedy....and beyond.
I love that Dave has stayed true to himself. Miss you on the tele' but still can find your classic stuff on the internet.
I expected more of a reaction from Stephen when Dave gave him that compliment at the end.
Jaymmin me too
I think Steve is just a classy guy and does not want to make it about himself. Im sure in private he speaks very differently to Dave. :-)
yeah, his eyes were red and watery lol
"humble" can be VERY. Steve knows that.
He’s scared of black people
The comedy goat
Stephen Colbert's kryptonite is compliments. LOL Love these men. Great people doing great things.,
Love Dave & Stephen, true great comics
The Legend ... Daaaaaaaaaaaaaaavvvveeee Chappelle
Shit, man. I almost cried
Thanks Dave, really enjoyed
Well spoken love this segment. Colbert was the one that got me to listen about politics..very humorous and to the point!
