btw- Vatican City IS considered an independent country. It is a city-state separate from Italy.
Geography Now Germany is a good video
react to Balkan rap
Estonian is also recognized as the 2nd most beautiful language in the world after French.
Vatican City is a full independent country. The pope is the monarch who reigns it
Maybe if they joined Eurovision Favour would have known them as a country.
Exactly it is it’s own country
Yass they should join Eurovision
Vatican City is most likely a European Microstate. Along with San Marino, Monaco, Andorra, Liechtenstein, Maltat
Yep, some sort of Independant Kingdom
@@christophermichaelclarence6003 most likely? its the smallest country in the world.. and some sort? they are 100% a completely free country..
Vatican City is a country!!
And England, Wales and Scotland shouldn't be there : they aren't independant states !
@@Tiekorolivier Scotland and Wales are self governing countries within the UK.
@@georgebarnes8163 yes but not independant states (not yet).

I'm from Bosnia and Herzegovina
Bosnia and Herzegovina are not separate states. Those are just two main regions of country, one called Bosnia and the other called Herzegovina. The country is divided internally, but it doesn't have to do anything with that name.
Purple was the color of royalty, plus, it was expensive to make in the past since it was made out of the mucus inside a snail shell. And it required A LOT of snails to create a little useable purple dye. Not efficient for country flags.
Queen Elizabeth favorite color 🇬🇧🟪👑. You can tell through her loyal outfits. Even her crowds
Not really the color of royalty but more the color of the roman empire as well as the papacy so not many kingdoms wanted to use it even back when there was only kingdoms in Europe. That and it was very costly as you said.
Fun fact - it was the same even in China, it was banned to use purple for ordinary people.
Vatican City is it's own country, and is the smallest country in the world, about 100 acres, encircled by a 2-mile border with Italy...
3:34 „are there a lot of beaches in Macedonia ?“ that’s funny because M. is actually a landlocked country 😅
A rule of thumb. The eagle represent emperors/empires while lions represent kings/kingdoms.
The monarch isn't above God he is appointed by God and instated by the church, so ranks right under God and above the church.
The Vatican is it's own country.
The oldest continious used flag in the world is the danish flag: Dannebrog.
purple is not used because in middle ages purple was a very expensive dye. so people didn't use it in heraldry cause they mostly couldn't afford it
All European cities, no matter how big, have either a flag or a coat of arms.
And Vatican City is an independent country.
Enclave not a country.
@@georgebarnes8163 It's an independent country with it's own army, well defined borders, embassies all over the world, and all the institutions that mark a country. It's just a very small one.

@@georgebarnes8163 why will you not accept the vatican is simply a 100% sovreign nation.
fun fact: the NAMES of the countries is not at all the same. its just the "english way to rename everything and to do not use original names !
Moldova and Andorra are nowhere near each other. Some flags are just coincidance.
Moldovan colors and romanian colors on the opposite, are no coincidence : Moldova is a historical romanian province.
Well, they're both former Roman territories I believe, no?

Vatican City has country/sovereignty status , it has its own embassies in more than 80 countries around the world.
Andorra and Moldova are at the opposite side of Europe from each other
Now add Romania and Chad =))))
Haha Macedonia is land locked they have no beach lol
Greek macedonian province has beaches 😬
Vatican City is an independent country.
Nope, it is an enclave in Rome, certainly not a country
@@georgebarnes8163 It became independent from Italy in 1929 with the Lateran Treaty, and it is a distinct territory under "full ownership, exclusive dominion, and sovereign authority and jurisdiction" of the Holy See, itself a sovereign entity of international law, which maintains the city state's temporal, diplomatic, and spiritual independence.
@@georgebarnes8163 with your genius logic; no microstate can be independent.

Hi! I'm from Cyprus! Thank you for presenting the flags of each European country. Each one of them is special in it own way. A few words about the Cyprus flag: obviously it features the shape of the island in its entirety, the two olive branches and the white background are symbols of peace. The olive branches also signify peace between Greek and Turkish Cypriots.
The double-headed eagle is an old symbol of royalty but, in Europe, it was mainly popularised by the Byzantine Empire (AKA the Eastern Roman Empire). Lots of other groups either inherited it or copied it from them.
Yeah, us westerners preferred the lion for that...
@@Luredreier It depends, my country's coat of arms also has lions and I'm from "Eastern Europe", but there are also "Western European" countries with eagles.
@@Luredreier the Holy Roman Empire and its successor states ( Germany , Austria ) also have eagles in their coats of arms .
in the case of the Albanians the flag with the double-headed eagle was the symbol of many noble Albanian families then in 1443 it became the national flag of the Albanians when the Albanian princes of the time created the league of lezhe which was an anti-Ottoman coalition....

The city flag thing is not just a Italian thing a lot of European cities and sub Division have them
I'm pretty sure every city has its own flag, or at least a coat of arms.
Our flags in Europe used to be way cooler in the past. For example the French flag from 1365 - 1792 was really cool. Or the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth flag had a really nice crest.
also most countries got multiple version of the flags eg with added CoA
French flag? Wasnt it a white one with some golden lillies?
The Holy Roman Empire flag here looked better too. At some point boring tricolors came into fashion. Then we had one with a crooked cross, but it fell into disrepute in the 1940s. So bad that its use is still a punishable offense today.
@@PropperNaughtyGeezer
One of the reasons why tricolors have been preferred is the process of making them. These flags could be produced quickly.
@@magnustool Each flag has to follow some rules od heraldics, for example when your old medieaval coat of arms was a white lion on red background, your flag must be a red-white bicolora by heraldic rules. I guess it's not literally a law, but most of countries followed these rules when today republics were established. Some old monarchies which still exist mostly have more historical versions of their flags.
A crown in coats or on flags symbolises independence. "No one above us but god."
Almost all european subdivisions (states so to say) have their own flags. You could check them out as well, there's some really nice ones like Frisia for example
Or Kanepi vald in Estonia
Just to make it clear: Vatican city IS it's own sovereign country and gained it's independence in 1929.
Vatican City is an independent Country inside the City of Rome. The Pope used to Rule a much bigger Country called the Papal States but he lost almost all of it during the unification of Italy
A European Microstate to be exact 🇻🇦

Purple is a very expensive color to make, it's the color of royalty at the end of the day, so, when you need a lot of flags, using such an expensive color back in the day wasn't something you could do often.
Actually, the only country in europe that had a shade of purple (ish) was spain, one of their old flags ( the republican Spain one from the civil war era) was red, yellow, and purple, top to bottom. you should look it up, it's a really pretty flag and color combination if you ask me.
Not true an old Estonian flag had color purple in it. Look it up
Vatican has its own flag because it's a seperate state. It has nothing to to with Italy but it's only surrounded by it. Vatican is more than 1000 years old while Italy was founded in 1861.
the vatican city is only 94 years old
Creating a flag follows the rules of heraldry. Therefore, there is a limited choice of colors and patterns. However, some states may not have adhered to it (Macedonia for example).
Moldova is between Romania and Ukraine and Andorra is between Spain and France (Andorra is know for Europeans as a vaction place in winter because it's basically snowiy mountains and it's a small country, but in Spain is known as the place were famous CZcamsrs move xd)
The austrian flag is the best because the story behind it is really badass cause the like king fighting and his war suit was white and it was covered in blood but when he took of his belt his uniform was still white underneath so thats why the flag is red white red
Macedonia has no beaches XD
Emperors and Kings often ruled by God´s Grace. So it was basicly God´s will that they rule the Land. That´s what is known as an absolut monarchy. England of course has a constitutionel Monarchy. That means that they also have a constitution and a Parlament that restricts the power of the monarch.
The Thing is that you needed a King in order to unify a Country or all the Nobels would rule over their own Land and you would end with lots of small Countries
The Idea that the common folk would rule the country was unthinkable until the age of enlightenment.
Especially during medieval times the common folk was often uneducated
The Vatican City is a separate country, that's why they don't use the Italian flag
Let me tell u something, EVERY European country has been a monarchy at some point, except maybe San Marino
Just for information, a flag can represent not only country, but litterally anything we want ! For exemple, there's flag for cities, regions and different places.
Right now, I can create my own flag for my room, and even if no one would care, it still work. Some micronation half independent, movements, or anything that exist can definitely have a flag, it's not only for countries.
And last thing, Vatican City or Vatican is a country insude of Rome, and is the smallest one in the world. The pope rules the country, and ensure Christianity in Europe.
The Griffin () appears frequently in architecture as a protector of buildings, and in modern times it is used as a mascot or symbol for various institutions, sports teams, schools and amusement parks. Griffins were the enemies of horses. Today the griffin is called "the cunning one". Griffin was in Greek mythology a winged monster with the body and legs of a lion, the head and wings of an eagle, and the tail of a serpent. He represents earthly power in close connection with divine powers. Having a serpent's tail, it also rules hidden or subterranean things.
Purple was a royal colour.
And really expensive
Spain used to have a flag with purple. In 1931, Spain became a republic for the second time (remember, it's practically always been a monarchy), and to reflect that change, the Spanish flag became a horizontal tricolor with red at the top, yellow in the middle and purple at the bottom. This was to honor an old anti-monarchy revolutionary movement that took place in the 16th Century. Those revolutionaries were called "comuneros" and they wore a purple piece of cloth around their waist. This flag, noun as the Spanish Republican flag, was used until 1936, when the Spanish Civil War started.

BULGARIA is one of the oldest country's in Europe and never changed its name since it was approved for independent from the ROMAN EMPIRE because they couldn't conquer it again in 681 ad.
About the Serbian flag: it's two-headed eagle. It's an orthodox Christian symbol, originating from the byzantine empire and it's old more than a 1000 years (1,500 maybe). Many orthodox churches have that symbol
In the byzantine empire it represented the two government institutions - the emperor and the patriarch/church (the two heads), ruling over one empire (the body). It may represent other things nowadays.
Have you ever wondered why you like the colours of the Lithuania flag, as its the same colours as the Rasta movement of Jamaica and New York. The Lithuanian flags colours are just in a different sequence.
But also, the colors are not that bright.

The Scottish flag, or saltire, is believed to be the oldest flag in Europe.
The cross represents the cross that Saint Andrew was crucified on, it's said that he requested the X shaped cross as he didn't feel worthy to die on the same shaped cross as Jesus.
There was a battle about to happen between Scots and English and the Scots King prayed to Andrew for victory and happened to see a cloud formation like an X....the Scots won the battle and that's how our flag came about in a nutshell.
