At the same age my grandfather took me to nagangast hobbies all the time. He lived is Glendale. Your taking me back to fond memories,thanks frank.

Oh my God, Frank ... now I know I'm old! In 1980, I was 25, married - albeit a short-lived marriage - to my first wife. I've since remarried, and my lovely wife, Cheryl and I, have just celebrated our 39th Anniversary on May 25th. Anyway, thanks for the reality check, my friend! LOL!!!

Hi Frank, the title of your video made me curious. I love your attitude and approach to modeling. I'm 67 and just got back into modeling a few years ago. I am amazed at how far the hobby has progressed. Looking forward to watching more of your content. I predominately build cars but have built ships and planes. I'm in the planning stages of building a dedicated hobby room. If nothing else it will give me more room for disorganization 😂

Your planes are awesome! I’ve dabbled with them. I’ve got almost 100 in my collection. I’m mostly a race car builder, and I’ve got close to 150 of them. I just subscribed and started watching your channel, and I’m really enjoying it! I like the way you explain things with your sense of humor, and great experience. Thanks for letting us get to know you. Love your channel. You are very entertaining along with being informative. I try and do the same on my channel ,to share ideas and techniques to my viewers. I think it helps new people in the hobby to get results that will encourage them to continue with the hobby. I feel one of the biggest detractions in the hobby are when new builders cant get the result they want ,not from lack of abilitly but lack of experience. This can cause them to get frustrated and quit. Like you i hope my videos and sharing my experiences in building can help those new to the hobby to see its abiut having fun building and creating and you dont have to be a master builder to create something you can be proud of. I also consider mysalf am average builder and its channels like yours i enjoy because there is always something new to learn and you make it very entertaining.
Frank.Hi from New Zealand.I really liked your intro'.I've been modelling for about 50 years & still consider myself average.And I am happy with that.I only make models for me & me alone.I don't belong to any model clubs,do not do any form of social media & do not enter contests.Like you I find it very cathartic & therapeutic.People today seem to take themselves too seriously & need to lighten up & laugh more.Keep up the good work.KP

Good to meet you, Frank. It's good to know I'm not the only one who believes in No-Secrets Model Building. I joined a model group a long way back. It had its little cliques, I never really felt a part of it. One day i asked one of the guys how they had done something on a model. He told me it was a secret and he cant tell me how to do it. Long story short over time i fell out of that club, I have friends in that club that Im still friends with but oh well. Anything I know how to do, if someone asks i tell the how i do it. No-Secrets Modeling. I'm gonna have to coin that phrase. Lol

I'm a VZ lineman for 27 yrs in Jersey. I have been building models on and off since the 80s myself.
I was a splicer in Brooklyn for 10 years, then Special Services on Long Island for 16 years, been in Tone and Mark for a year. Can’t wait to retire from here.

Oh Frank u hit a nerve with me. Weddings and funerals! For some weddings are a vertical funeral! And funerals are you know the end! On to the model subject: I have noticed when I’m at a retailer fellas will be looking over my shoulder as I’m looking at kits to buy! Most will question me about if I build and is it ok for grown ups to build models! I say sure I have built most of my life! I consider these folks to be closet modelers because they are embarrassed to admit they build! I usually finish the conversation by telling them about model clubs etc. they don’t realize how many people build models! What fun content you have Frank! New subscriber here! Thanks buddy!🤔🫡🇺🇸
I hear you… a lot of people think there’s a social stigma to building models when in reality there isn’t one. Whatever negativity there may be gets amplified by the fact that it’s perpetrated by obnoxious people who are usually loud and persistent.
Most people in my life find it endearing that I still do something that they remember me doing as a kid.

Thanks for your intro to your background. I grew up in Springfield, MA, built models most of my youth, married a blind date, going on 42 years and just started building models after I retired. I have learned a lot from you and now my son has started building models. If I ever get a chance I’d love to buy you lunch sometime. Keep up the good work.

I see that I'm not the only one that tried to use a model car to impress a young lady! I had a huge crush on a cute little blonde back in the day. I asked her what her favorite car was. She told me she wanted a root beer brown Porsche Turbo. Of course, I told her that I would get her one. She laughed. A couple of weeks later, imagine her surprise when I gave her a model of said Porsche. And, a Porsche key chain. She ended up gluing the model to the top of the dash in her huge tuna boat of a 73 Oldsmobile Delta 88. The poor model ended up melting on a hot day. Never did end up dating her. 🤣

@@FranksModelWorks Funny story...we went our separate ways, both got married and my then wife went to pay a bill and shes comes back out and asks me if I know a Brenda. I said, I used to. Come to find out, that crush was working at this office and recognized my ex's married name.

My guess, the gatekeepers are using Paint Job perfection as the gate. I see the great painters and I marvel their skill level, yet if this is used as a gate then the limits will discourage good builders.
