- Here's my step by step process for chroming photoetch scripts for model cars. This video assumes that you will sand off molded-in kit detail that you intend to replace with photoetch. I'll link to places where the materials I use can be found, but I can't guarantee they'll be in stock.

Very entertaining video Frank. Thanks for sharing.
You sir are entertaining. 🏁
Nice video Frank
Thanks Tim!

Great Informative video. I really enjoyed the comic relief you provided as well. Keep up the good work
This was a great video, learned a lot, and actually I have a couple of photo etch sheets for 67-68 Camaros. Was intimated to use them, but now I’m not..thank you Frank, you did a great job with this one….as usual! 😊
Awesome tutorial! Thanks for sharing.
I always get a great laugh when I watch Frank. I have never thought of using chrome on the PE parts. Thats a good idea. I am gonna give that a try.
Lots of extra work there, but looks great.. I've seen guys using GARBAGE paint like Rust-Oleum and THINK it looks good, but realistically looks like the contents of a litter box.. In 57 years I've NEVER seen Rust-Oleum paint dry hard enough to work with on models.. But Hey! Everyone has their own opinion and goals for QUALITY.. Great video.. I HATE PHOTO ETCH, BUT I still use it too much 🤣👍🇺🇸
Great video, I may try this. Happy Memorial Day Frank.🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
Thanks! Likewise!
You can polish the fret easier if you put a loop of tape on the back, to hold onto. Then you can safely polish front face in a polishing cloth or compound on wax paper attached to a tavle top.
Both sides are flat so no snags during polishing.
If you don't like superglue, you can attach the parts with clear varnish which is less stressful to work with.
Frank, be honest. You used to watch Norm Abram on New Yankee Workshop, and remember from it, above all else ..... his "measure twice, cut once" line.
"Don't commit .... test first" maybe evolved from that precaution, and both lines are good recommendations to remember. 😄
This was a great video! Never a dull moment! I've been curious about photo-etch stuff. I'm an old dog nearing 70 in people years, trying to learn new tricks. Have been away from the hobby about 55 years, retired now and looking to restart. I've already subscribed, and will be coming back to watch more. Thanks for the humor, too.
I did! My father hated that show…he’d walk through the living room while it was on and say “Must be nice to have all those tools…”
Can’t wait to see the completed Camaro that you’re not building. Thanks for the info as always Frank!
great video, great advice.
I like to nickel plate them then use a buffing wheel and some polishing compound to bring out the shine .
I'm so glad I've found your videos. The info is phenomenal, and I love your sense of humor. Now, I'm going to lose hours of productivity building just watching your videos.
Thanks so much!

Awesome. Thank you for getting back to me greatly appreciated.
nice idea all those details is a a lot of work
Great video! I think I'd have it just polished it and stuck on the model in about 20 minutes though. All the bikini moms would approve and have sent pix. Probably not. 🤣
Interesting technique Frank. I may have try this on the scripts to give a more roundish script like look. Working with some on my Chevelle. Love P/E
I’m really happy with GaiaNotes on P/E (I love P/E too!), but the more I delve into Revell Chrom, the more I like it. I just released a video tonight with some surprising results about my old method on kit part rechroming and the one I’m likely going to use going forward.
@FranksModelWorks Right on, I'll have to check it out, when I get some time. I've always used kit chrome with light layer of Tamiya smoke. Doesn't help with those molded line on the corners of bumpers though. Thanks Frank.
Very nice video. Nice technique. Thanks for sharing.
Great video. Never thought about painting PE before. 👍👍
Thanks!
Great information and tutorial Frank!
Thanks Paul!
Educational and entertaining Frank , cheers marra . Regards Gav.
Nice tutorial. It was entertaining and informative. Thanks for sharing.
My only real issue with photo etch (other than getting it to stick without destroying my paint, or hanging on something and ripping off) is spending nearly a kit's worth of money on a photoetch set only to find that I used a whole 3 parts off it. However, I like to use a rotary tool and tamiya polish with a very light touch. For utilitarian things like this I like using 3M painters tape as it's cheaper than the Tamiya tape. I keep my tamiya tape for paint masking. I spend money where it counts, and pinch pennys where it don't ya know :) Burbanks house of hobbies, and usagundamstore carry the metal primer, they are of course out of stock as usual. It seems like Mr hobby stuff hits U.S. stores in waves. Wow with the spray pattern on the Revell chrome you may as well be throwing dollars out the window every time you press the button.
Cool ideas with photo etch
Good how to video Frank! Thank you 😎👍
First time viewer of your videos....your my kind of people. Thanks for a well thought out tip, will try it for sure. Are you a Long island guy or a Jersey guy?
Thanks and welcome aboard! Originally NYC (Queens), now Long Island.
...and I have now added another file to Franks tips. Ahhhhh...you know what I mean. 😂 Good video Frank, as always.
Thanks Billy!
Awsome
Frank.
Great video very informative, especially on the how You pick up the parts with the wax pencil.Any chance you can share a link and where to find them thanks.
Thanks! Here’s a link for the wax pencils.

Hi Frank, I love your content.
I guess I'm the only guy left on the planet that is reluctant to lay out the kinda bucks they want for the small can of the Revell chrome spray. Having said that, you said that you thought that the results on plastic were pretty good. You also said that it tends to spray heavy out of the can. Of course I'm paraphrasing here but, it would be nice to see the results of the revell decanted. Hint, hint.
Just a thought for a video. Thanks, Stephen Tabor from Hawaii Island.
I would, but that stuff comes out so heavy, and the nozzle itself doesn’t lend itself to decanting. I’d waste half the $30 can to trying.
Great video. I was wondering if you would be able to do a how to video on thining paints and clears. I purchased some splash paints and I like how they are already thinned . I’m stuck on how I should thin the clear. Says 3:1 ratio for mixing clear. What type of tools would you recommend in getting that 3:1 ratio correct. Thank you for your input.
I think the 3:1 ratio you might be referring to is Clear to Catalyst if it’s Splash Paints 2K Urethane Clear. If you’re using 2K Clear, Splash sells a Urethane Grade Lacquer thinner. First you’ll mix the 3:1 ratio of Clear to Catalyst, and then you’ll add thinner to that mixture. For example, If you mix up 10ml of Clear/Catalyst, 7.5 ml will be Clear, 2.5ml will be catalyst.
Then, you have 10ml of the Clear/Catalyst mix. To that, you can add 5ml of thinner.
For any type of paint or clearcoat mixing I’d recommend graduated medicine cups and pipettes. They’re both available on Amazon and are indispensable consumables when airbrushing.
These are the cups

And these are the pipettes

I also did a full three part airbrushing series. I think you’ll find the first and second video of the series most useful for the question you asked. Here’s a link.

Nice 😅
You are cool lol lol👍
Yeah, yeah.....but you didn't say how you got those delicate teeny, tiny photoetched parts off the TAPE with out bending the crap out of them! Denny G, Sandwich, IL
Carefully. If they bend coming off the fret or the tape, they can be bent back by squeezing them under an Xacto knife handle and reshaped as needed with tweezers.
How many cars can a fella spray with revell chrome
I’d say 12 to 18 total (probably more) if you spray everything that is on the chromed sprues of an average kit.
Dude - when are you gonna be done with that '69 Camaro?
I’d have to start building one before I can give an approximate completion date…
But seriously…I’m going to build one next year.
Great idea, i reuse my photo etch as well
After NOT watching this video. I can say. You are WRONG. Incorrect and just plain UNRIGHT! With that said. I paint all of my chome with Rustolium chrome. Then wipe down with a rag. LOKKS GREAT!
“I’ve never had a problem” 😂
