      Beer Stamps. For people with low income they receive food stamps (EBT card) But we get thirsty too 🍺. I think I'll write a letter to my congressman to get this bill approved. Kidding. What makes sense is affordable day care for low income families, and more benefits for our American veterans. Also what's make sense is to stop spending billions of dollars on research of the Mars planet, and put more of such money in affordable housing. Perhaps this will help a little to keep inflation down.

    I've only been to Japan once, but my friends who ask for tips when they go, I always tell them not to buy drinks from restaurants and just enjoy the complimentary water or tea, but if they want soda or other drinks, to buy from vending machines after. Most restaurants we went to in Japan were charging 2-400 yen for drinks, but nearly all drink options from vending machines were more like 100-130 yen.

    To explain tipping, I can't say how it works in Japan, but in America, waitstaff usually make well below minimum wage (I read somewhere that it's $2.13 per hour). Tipping is how servers earn their salary. It seems like a nice thing to do, but much has been said about it--especially since many view it as a way for companies to pass more costs onto customers rather than pay them fair wages.
    I won't get too much into it, but tipping has insidious origins, to say the least.

      Yeah! That's my favorite part from Spongebob! I see thank you for explaining! In Japan waiter get average wage so we don't have to tip! But restaurant staff work very hard so sometimes I think if they can get tip they will be more happy!

    • @JarieSuicune
      @JarieSuicune Před 2 lety

      Yeah. Which SUCKS. The only reason tipping exists in the few industries that have it is because the companies use it as a way to constantly rip off their employees.
      It's a disgusting failure that we still haven't had government leaders with the guts to say "the minimum wage is the MINIMUM, no exceptions" so that employees can actually have a reliable income.
      That said, I just don't tip. Because it is stupid and I ALREADY paid plenty for the food. Don't like it? Get a job that cares about you and/or help change things for better. You don't tip ME for my work, but I work plenty hard like everyone else.

    RE: Vending machines. When I first came to Japan, it blew the minds of many friends and family in Canada that there were vending machines that sold cigarettes and even beer! The beer machines are few and far between these days (the rules becoming relaxed on 24/7 convenience stores selling alcohol have basically wiped out the need) but the tobacco ones are still quite common (although unlike the "old days" an I.D. card that can be swiped or scanned is required to use them).

    As someone whose job heavily revolves around maintaining the public bathrooms (grocery store clerk), there's a few reasons we don't have floor-ceiling stall walls & have that gap at the door latch:
    1) the walls are designed like that so that employees/caretakers/first-responders (police/firefighters/EMTs) can open or otherwise get into the stalls in the event of a medical emergency or a thief/trespasser is trying to evade detection
    2) the gap is there for employees responsible for cleaning (i.e. me) to identify if someone is in the stall & just ignored/didn't hear the knocking or call to verify the restroom was empty (you'd be surprised how often I knock on the womens' restroom door (corporate policy as a male employee) & get no response only for there to be a lady in the stall who either refused/didn't know how to respond or didn't hear me because they have headphones/earbuds in)
    3) another reason for shorter walls is to try and discourage drug addicts from camping in the stalls in order to do their shit - if we had floor-ceiling walls+doors for our stalls, these people would be more inclined to prep and administer their illegal substances in our building

    Locking bicycle tires only in US is akin to advertising to get your bike stolen you ALWAYS MUST secure the frame to another secure concrete or metal source if not your bicycle is GONE theft is much worse in US than in Japan .

  • @breaky73
    @breaky73 Před 2 lety +1

    Actually many of these things are also to be found in the Netherlands. Dutch bicycles have integrated locks and can have similar kickstands. Public toilet doors also don't have gaps like in the USA and are relatively clean (but often you have to pay for them). Netherlands doesn't have nearly as many vending machines as Japan though, although there are fast food restaurants where you can get hot snacks vending machine style. I think Mrs Eats just has to visit the Netherlands one day haha.

  • @tonycosta3302

    Switzerland also has amazingly clean public toilets. I had to use a roadside toilet up in the mountains, and it was cleaner than my home toilet. They must clean that thing hourly. Train stations toilets are the same.

    Bathroom stalls in United States are designed so that way you don’t spend too much time in there or be too comfortable.. Also, in case a child gets locked in you can crawl underneath the door and get them out.

  • @dreamflier2676
    @dreamflier2676 Před 2 lety +1

    Um that bike lock won’t work in the US people will just take the entire bike instead you have to attach your bike onto something if you don’t want it stolen (some people will just cut the lock if it is to thin as well, that happened to my sister).
    I have a small bag attached onto my bike that holds my bike lock so I never worry about forgetting it anyway. Also a large portion of bikes in America don’t have a kickstand.

    There’s no set number for tipping because it’s supposed to be based on the level of SERVICE. If it was a fixed n, then it would just be included in the price.

    I love your videos so much Mrs Eats! This one brought me a smile. Agreed, lots of that makes sense.
    Here in the US, tipping culture is so weird, and as much as I hate it, I feel like some of us will feel so odd if it finally goes away. I think some of us have the mentality of: "But if I don't tip, they'll think I'm rude or did not do their service well!" It's a doubled edged sword for some of us, haha, I just know I'll have that mindset if we (rightfully) get rid of tipping. Even if I want tipping gone. Gah! It's a contradiction for sure!
