NYC Strangers Try Filipino Leche Flan For the First Time, FAVORITE DESSERT EVER?!
Vložit

- We gave random strangers in NYC the amazing Filipino dessert leche flan to try! They had never had it before and they really loved it! Super cool to see Americans trying leche flan for the first time, and to spread a bit of Pinoy culture in NYC!
We got it from a small Filipino cafe in NYC called Kabisera that makes the dessert from scratch, so it was super authentic and delicious. Made with egg yolk, evaporated milk, condensed milk, vanilla extract, and sugar. They did not sponsor this video, but they are super nice, and if you want can check their cafe out at: www.yelp.com/biz/kabisera-new...

Leche flan. Favorite dishes from filipino most likely from every o occassion. Pinagdadamot pa sa sariling bahay dahil pang bisita lang daw un. 😂
baliktad dito samen.. pag may event gagawa nang madami..tapos tinatago sa bisita kasi pang pamilya lang daw o ilalabas pang may very close family friends na dadating 😅😅
*grins*
*taps right temple*
It can't be reserved for visitors if there's nothing left.
Yeah true sometimes I see a leche flan on table and I ask my mom if I can eat this leche flan but she said no it's only for visitors
Me:🤤😭😵 ;~;
talo talo muna kami ng magkakaibigan kapag leche flan ang pinagusapam HAHAHAHAHAHA
Did you notice the reaction of the Filipino couple? They were not very sure of what they’ve to tell, for sure they have eaten better taste than the sample 😂, I myself haven’t had one with coconut but I make the best leche flan which I would save some before setting it on the table, otherwise mauubos agad once the guests arrived, uunahin na nila ang dessert kaysa sa main dishes para di maubusan 😅😋
This guy is quiet amazing and adorable. He knows how to approach strangers with great respect.
try mango float with leche flan on top
Fuck one of my favorite
Ours is opposite, leche flan with mango float on top but i know they're still the same
O.o i like leche plan i tase its like a honey with a melted cheese or bread
Lumpia: am i a joke to you!?
My god that heaven god dessert
Leche flan is actually a dessert with spanish/french origins. It was brought to the Philippines during the Spanish occupation and eventually became a Filipino delicacy. Normally, it doesn't have any toppings. But since there's also an abundance of coconuts in the Philippines, that would sound like a logical twist to a classic Pinoy dessert. I have yet to try it though. Thanks for sharing this, Xiaoma!
It’s more known as a Mexican desert actually and it still is. I guess within Filipinos they think it’s originally from their country
@@wolfqueen4636 flan did not originate in Mexico, but it was introduced by the Spaniards. It’s origins are from Rome. Filipinos were also introduced to it from the Spaniards during colonial times.
Maybe it's originated from somewhere but nobody does it better than the Filipino does
@@justinerayevitalicio8329 Flan has many iterations from multiple cultures, but you may be right - I too think Filipino flan is near or at the top. Everyone’s taste level is different though.
@@justinerayevitalicio8329super late but the leche flan recipes I’ve seen are identical to many of the latin American recipes I’ve seen. Including the one my mother learned growing up in PR well over half a year ago. It’s a very simple dish not much room for variation in the classical version.
Leche Flan originally does not have coconut toppings...
yes..
Yes
That's why he said it's a Filipino leche flan 'with a twist' of flavor...😊
Pwede nman... I think 'Macapuno preserved' ung nilagay or sweetened coconut...
Shiro Amakusa hmmm pede nmn lagyan
originally we dont put coconut toppings on our flan. And i'm not sure if my fellow filipino's wud agree but most of us prefer a leche flan with smooth texture that melts in ur mouth rather than a bubbly texture 😊
I've seen people put mixed fruits on their leche flan. But I prefer having it plain.
@@kirstenjan4854 me too
Agree. Never even encountered leche flan w toppings
Iriss Legaspi i like mine bubbly 😈
Is it that serious it’s a desert he’s sharing with people.... he’s just having fun making a vid, sharing food, getting feedback.... like pump your brakes girl and calm down lmao 🤣
So happy to see Filipino food being appreciated around the world. The late Anthony Bourdain had a very high opinion of Filipino food, most especially sisig which is his favorite.
Not trying to be a hater or anything but it's actually Mexican food. Its just a popular food among Filipinos.
@mete or Oh damn you're right. I thought it originated in Mexico lol my bad. Ok u schooled me.
mete or lmao no it didn’t it originated from Spain and France lol
@@miguelramirez7257 oh wait, actually you're correct lol. But I'm still wrong. I thought it originated in Mexico.

Filipino: “a little bit bubbly” he knows his leche flan well👍🏼 If it has bubbles that means egg whites made it to the mix/not well strained. Good job!

sweeter than the flan 😅
😅

That guy who said it tastes like Creme Brulee is on point!
Boy Bato yeah, and i looked up leche flan only to find that there’s an English word for it-crème caramel.
That's literally it!
@@pinaybarbie It makes sense..
@@cen_velacruzjohnvictor8390 not really creme brulee mean burnt cream soo
That's the point of leche flan it's like a jelly creme brulee
The two Filipinos rated the leche flan, nahhh it’s ok not that good. Hahahaha. There are so many people who cook leche flan and only few have mastered the art of perfection.
Shoutout to all indians here watching!
I have tried some of your food and liked it! ❤ from Philippines 🇵🇭
That shredded coconut toppings is a sweetened coconut called “makapuno”
makapuno is different from coconut
@@ggZuper foreigner kse c vlogger dba? Kya di nya alam tawag dun sa coconut na linagay. Pero macapuno yun. If u watched the whole video it was shown they were adding macapuno on top of the flan.
@@ggZuper its related lol..

Shout out to the Brazilian couple! I was wondering if it was similar to pudim and they explained it perfect that it sounds like pudding but it's actually our version of flan.

thats whats amazing about this video... they were reminded by their favorite childhood deserts... its cute
Great videos, Xiaoma!
I read a lot of comments about how leche flan should be, and I get that because we are sometimes really passionate about food. But we should also understand that each and everyone of us has their own take of a certain dish, and the resto that made the leche flan did not claim that it was the authentic and traditional one. Also, when you go to the Philippines, a certain dish is cooked a certain way in this region and in another region they cook it differently. Take for example the adobo dish, it is cooked differently depending on the region and each are traditional in its own right.
Bottomline, these videos showcasing Filipino dishes are really great in terms of making them known to other people and I bet a lot of subscribers who haven't tried Filipino dishes before would try to have one or look for one. 👍👍👍
Wow, you've been educating new yorkers on Filipino cuisine, kudos sir!
we dont really have a leche flan originally with coconut toppings, yet im watching this while we have 2 leche flans just sitting in our freezer for 2 days
Thank you for promoting our food! Appreciate!
Thank u Xiaomanyc for promoting Filipino food to the world well appreciated may God Bless u More..
9:41 that Indian dude probably grew up in a friggin freezer or something haha. Everyone’s wrapped in warm clothing and he’s only got a sweatshirt on 😂
Remembered Catriona Gray's amusing question: What is their super powers? Can they let me in? 🤣✌️
Tibay nya e haha
Doesnt make sense if you say Himalayas because NYC is colder than Himalayas. He might grew up in the colder parts of US
HeyHowsMyDriving, I stand corrected. I was thinking that the temperatures at a very high elevation would be lower. Could have said Siberia or somewhere further notth but that’s just too far from India 😂
I also notice it. Haha
We dont normally put anything on top of the flan so thats a restaurant specialty.
Ah i dunno about that, we use makapuno eh :)
double a in Laguna there’s leche flan with ube layer or/and soft pinipig layer inside.. so yeah, nothing on top but a different variation for a slightly different flavor.. A Classic plain one done well will always be great though.

Thankyou! for introducing our food in your country.
The smoother and silkier the yummier. I like the melted sugar. Yes tastes like creme brûlée. Egg yokes, condensed milk, evaporated milk , over melted brown sugar, steam it or bake over water bath.
Them: Use fork to scoop a piece of the leche flan.
Filipinos: Use spoon (or tiny spoon) instead.
:)
Not a big deal tho
It should be eaten with a dessert spoon.
Not here in the US though..they basically use fork in almost every food except on soup haha

Thanks for introducing our filipino food mr xiaomannyc.😍
It looks similar to our "Flan de Dulce de Leche" (Argentina) 😂😂😂
Probably even the same 😂
spanish clnztion influenced us this leche flan, obvious by the name itself. we r not originally create that
It has the Spanish influence into it - leche (milk) & Flan (custard) - so variations of which is evident when Spain 🇪🇸 colonized - Mexico 🇲🇽 South America’s, Philippines 🇵🇭 for that matter. So leche flan is custardy dulce de leche
And from my research it originated in France (Creme Caramel) then spread to neighboring countries like Spain. Even French colonies have their version too like Vietnam, Cambodia and Laos.
Xander Yod Zamora nope it didnt come from France it started from Spain spread out to Latin or hispanic country
my friend !!!!! this is PUDIM DE LEITE, the most famous Brazilian desert . Everyone in Brazil knows how to make PUDIM DE LEITE. you mix in a blender 1 can of condensed milk , then you use the same can to pour 1 part of milk, 2 eggs, blend everything. cook in water bath for 1 hour in the oven 200F. that simple.
wow exactly you're right it same version
well its leche plan here😂
Those folks are so lucky to get a taste of the products of different Philippine cooking methods. It’s so delicate and difficult to perfect.
Hi im from Philippines❤️❤️❤️ new subcribers here😍 Thank you for appreciating of the Filipino foods💞 God Bless man🙏😇

"It taste like Mexican Flan"
New Spain(which is Mexico) brought it to Philippines
You can just tell by the name "LECHE FLAN"
Mexico governed the Philippines during the Spanish times. Bc we weren't directly under Spain, we were able to keep our native languages as an unintended consequence.
@@NanetteNette Plus, unlike in Latin and Mesoamerica, our ancestors didn't die of small pox (because we're Asian and we have immunity to smallpox like Europeans) so we have more native and mixed people whereas there are few tribes (relative to the number of European-descended people) of Aztecs, Indians, Inuits, and other native people in North and South America.
@@carlplayz6869 Still not sure why our flan was called leche. Did they think ours was inferior or am I only thinking that because the Tagalog word leche has a different meaning from the Spanish one?
@@moondust2365 diba po yubg leche meaning gatas siguro sa gatas na halo skl, opinyon lang hehe
