  • The Flyers are apparently the broker in this one. Vegas just beefed up their blueline which was necessary given their recent poor play.

    Also seems like Cgy now has more money in the war chest, by not having to pay a salary like Noah was commanding. Glad he is gone, happy for his services, now to secure guys who are good with playing in a Canadian market. I see flames securing a lot of European and Canadian players under the Conroy Era.

    • @RRaquello
      @RRaquello Před 4 měsíci +4

      The irony of course is that Conroy himself is American and the Flames' leading goal scorer (so far) is an American guy who chose to sign in Calgary. But it's certainly something to keep in consideration when drafting or acquiring players. I wouldn't absolutely avoid American players but if I had two roughly equal choices and one was Canadian, I'd use that in my decision.

    Calgary pretty much bolstering several Western Conference contenders as roadblocks to stop Edmonton:
    Vegas: Hanifan (Potential 1st or 2nd round opponentt of the Oilers)
    Vancouver: Lindholm, Zadorov (Potential 1st or 2nd round opponent of Oilers)
    Dallas: Tanev (Potential conference final opponent of the Oilers)
    Strategically setting up roadblocks to make your most hated rival's path the cup difficult, while getting a haul in these trades to improve the team's prospect pool and draft picks.

      The thing no other team has seemed to figure out is given how far away from being NHL ready players are when you have to draft them, even if you're an elite talent evaluator a massive % of your draft picks are always going to turn into nothing (I would think a higher % than any other major sport except baseball where they also draft guys WAY before they're pro ready; NBA and NFL draft players mere months before guys go pro and almost every first round pick at least makes the league). If you can get free agents, trade block players to play for you at a discount and you can judge young players better than other teams, you can potentially get more out of your draft picks by turning them into proven NHL players and young NHL players that haven't hit their potential yet but are way more of known quantities than teenagers that could easily never even play in the NHL. Which is what Vegas does so well.
      That late 1st round pick could be anything, it could even be a good NHL player... like the one you just gave away.

      Kucherov only worked because of the truncated season, and his timeline was exactly the same as every other player who got the same hip surgery. Stone has gone down twice just in time for the deadline with mysterious injuries now, allowing Vegas to load up and probably win the cup again. This loophole should've been closed in 2015 after the Lightning got hosed by it, and now we're seeing the chickens come home to roost. The team who has a big injury pre-deadline will likely win the cup every year.

      Pylons, funny. You miss the point. The rule is meant to be a safety net in the chance a team loses one or multiple players and needs some way to reconcile. Teams obviously want that option. The complaint is that Vegas, a team that's existed for less than a decade doesn't use it as a safety net they intentionally abuse the rule. That's why every other fan hates them. Well why then are you spending so much time on social media just complaining about it? Shouldn't you be arranging a meeting with the NHL Board of Governors and tell them all you know about Stone and the VGK's intentional deception so they can punish the organization and agree to "close the LTIR loophole"?

VGK has been garbage the last few weeks. i think they would have rather had stone in uniform than out of. i don't what team you root for, but it seems like fans of horribly mismanaged teams like to bellyache the most about vegas or tampa using LTIR.
      not sure if you're aware, but the nhl investigates and approves (or not) each team's request to use the exemption.
