      iam also happy, not only because it is an act of sportsmanship, which became rare in professional football/soccer, also because that means the club owners guaranteed Alonso a certain budget to keep certain players. i think otherwise he wouldnt have signed it. which is also a rare thing in german league. Munich usually grabs key players from uprising league competitors using their financial power. i dont think they are gonna be able to grab for example a Wirtz this time :)

    You have to admit that for people who didn’t watch Bundesliga, Alonso has got a lot of people hooked to it with the kind of football they play. Glad he’s gonna stay there, and hopefully bundesliga is 🔥 next season too!! Can’t wait to watch them in CL next season and at Bernabeu in 2025 ! Go Neverlusen!

      This! You could always sense that they only needed the right manager to flourish. Scouting and youth development has been one of the best in Germany and probably in Europe. Berbatov, Ballack, Lucio, Schneider, Schuster, Völler and many more to add to that list of players…

      You shouldn't be surprised because a lot of 2. Bundesliga clubs like Hamburg, Kaiserslautern, Nürnberg, Schalke, Düsseldorf, Hertha Berlin are historically one of the biggest clubs in Germany and have had tremendous domestic and European success back in the day. That is why they have a lot of average attendance

    I don't blame Xabi Alonso at all. He's still very young and learning. His Bayer Leverkusen team is just getting started, would not be surprised if they became a dynasty in Germany, especially given Bayern's decline these past few years.

      Build a Dynasty? Bayern will buy their best Players as they always did with Teams who came to close to them.. First it was Leverkusen back in 2002 then Bremen, after that it was Dortmund in 2013 and it wont change in the Future

      Bayern Munich is hated because they keep buying their players by milking other BL clubs that came close to dethroned them.

      @@isthatmysatayBayer the corporation is one of the biggest in Germany but their own sport club doesn’t have endless funds. The financing has always been quite reasonable compared to Wolfsburg which simply is a club where they burn money lol. It‘s great to see Bayer shine since they are responsible for a lot of German sport talents, especially in track & field. The club has also always been a club that wanted to play asthetically pleasing football by taking risks with unusual manager hires and deep scouting knowledge about South America.

      Una Emery is probably the most proven candidate, but does play the high press style of Klopp. To be honest there aren’t many good new candidates because the old coaches have been dominating the trophies.

      They are not a one season wonder(hopefully). But since Xabi took over when they were hanging around relegation places, from there he has constantly taken them upwards, add to it their management and scouting have been great.

    The problem with Leverkusen is that as soon as he wins Bundesliga, starting next season big teams will descend and gut his team of top players. Xabi in all probability will restart from scratch again.

      The fact Alonso is staying in Leverkusen will help the club massively, tho. Players like Grimaldo, Xhaka, Tah etc might stay at the club for another season purely cause they wanna work with him again. Even if Leverkusen loses some key-players now, they gonna attract new players - thanks to Xabi Alonso staying there for now.

    I honestly hope and can see Bayern pummeling arsenal in the champions league. Arsenal have 0 experience in big games like that outside of England and have been for decades now. Would love to see Real Madrid vs Bayern semifinal and a winner from those 2 clubs.

      Some people don’t realize how big the ucl is. Arsenal was beating teams 5-0, 6-0, 5-1, etc. in the league and then the Porto game happened. Yes Bayern have their own problems, but inexperienced teams don’t beat historic sides like Bayern often

    Nice to have Klingsmann on to give the Bundesliga view on it as I'm sick and tired of English media outlets like Sky and Talksport and the likes of BEIN sports who I believe broadcast from the far east with Keys, they are calling Alono out as a bottle job and that he likes of ambition, this seriously is a joke and it simply shows their premier league bias and how completely ignorant they are. I'm English and we talk like we are the centre of football on this little island and another thing we don't tend to like Americians who are a little to up themselves and arrogant but we English are exactly the same regarding the Premier Leauge where it's treated like how the Yanks treat the NBA and that all other leagues are just not worth it and 2 nd rate

      The thing is, this is Alonso's first job and he's about to win the league so therefore, make the UCL, so it's best to stay with Leverkusen and see what he can do with the team that he took to the CL, and get CL experience with Leverkusen, and then go from there. Eventually he'll go to Liverpool or Madrid

      The problem with your point is that, historically, Bayern is a giant club, and they don’t stay in the doldrums for long. They have too much money and behind the scenes clout to stay down for long. Look at Leicester’s miracle run to a Premier League title. They also had a world class coach in Claudio Ranieri, but they couldn’t repeat that success. Alonso’s big test if he wins the title, is to replicate it the next year. I am a huge fan of Xabi, by the way.

    The Champions League is only open for the European pedigrees. The likes of Real Madrid, Bayern Munich, Barcelona, Juventus, Milan, and Ajax have this thing. Same for Liverpool and Manchester United. Arsenal, Manchester City, and even Paris Saint Germain were in a different planet with lack of European success, so I think those 3 will get knocked out in this year's quarter final.
