I like Gem's approach to the 'being a part of both servers' dilemma alot. It's a very chill and stressless way of putting it, requiring basically no roleplaying, just being herself with no risk of messing the narrative up
It merely comes at the expense of her Hermit friends finding out she does LARPing. :D
And her saying her character from hermitcraft & empires s2 is not a person, but is a "being"

Oli's video delaying this video is a mood. I think everyone needed some time to recover after watching it. So much happening all at once

I love how Pixelriffs is listed as exporting lore.
For me it was an absolute blast seeing Pixlriffs interact with the Hermitcraft members. Also great move into getting more attention to the Empire SMP

I wonder if/ when we will see more empires members join Hermitcraft.
Pearl and Gem joined HC after Empires S1 and with this Collaboration and the third life series the server members have plenty of interactions with each other.
(Or more hermits crossing over to empires. They have already started to incorporate slightly more roleplaying intor their videos too in the past few years)

Not all hermits visited Empires. Etho, Hypno (is he still active?), Iskall, Rendog, Stress, Vintage Beef, Welsknight (is he still active?), XBCrafted and Zedaph stayed on Hermitcraft.
it's all part of Grumbot's plan: Mumbo 4 Mayor
I'm thinking they sent 13 Hermits to match the existing 13 Empires players.
Not to mention that it would mean he is literally the richest hermit on the server until the others come back

Thank God for this video. I'm new to empires and watching everyone stick to their lore has made it difficult for me to like piece together the realistic nature of the community. This really fills in a lot of gaps that I didn't understand.
Now I can go back to enjoying the make-believe 🙂

Can the next sneaky midweek episode tell us about previous seasons of Empires, to explain Pearl's past and stuff like that?
Pearl's past (without spoiling) - the list including:
- pearlescentmoon empires smp S1 lore
- mythical sausage empires smp S1 and S2 lore + his afterlife smp lore
- the orion sound afterlife smp lore + his empires smp S2 lore
so if they are really doing another midweek episode that includes explanation for pearl's past they would need to watch both the entire empires smp S1 and some of the afterlife smp perspectives. That will take well over 40 hours of research and we can't expect to see the episode anytime soon (if they actually make it) since there is just too much lore!

I like the emphasis put on the fact that the funky looking npcs and items are all still vanilla and not modded. that was something that was hard for me to wrap my head around at first, so I'm glad you made it really clear that it's all just retextured vanilla things.
9:40 I absolutely lost it at Sloy's note about Olly's video. I mean, that's pretty much the correct reaction to any Olly video, to be fair 😂
I regret not watching Empires season 1 when it originally started. I only decided to give it a try once the season has just ended. I binged Gem's playlist, then Fwhip's, then Sausage's. And boy, have I missed out on stuff! Fortunately, this time I'm watching season 2 as it goes on.
Just a theory (I think?), BUT:
So, we know that the Rift sends messages from Hermitcraft to Empires just fine, but completely scrambles the messages (and LIVING BEINGS APPARENTLY) coming *from Empires* to Hermitcraft, so the Hermits might have come through to Empires in one piece, coming back however... *might* be a bit more complicated?
I wonder what will happen to them when they manage to return home...
Also, apparently the Hermits are a species now.
Also was it me but at the end of Grian video, a layer of purple stained glass disappeared from the portal

So honestly I haven't been watching any hermitcraft videos because the EmpireSMP crossover has been way too much for me at once and I couldn't follow any of it. This recap was so helpful in understanding the new people and how their server is run, I feel like I can actually go back and watch the hermits videos I've been missing out on. Thanks Sloy!
I appreciate this overview. Roleplaying to this degree really isn't my speed, but its cool for folks who enjoy it! It's good insight while our fave Hermits are visiting
Most of the time it’s very much like a tabletop role-playing session in that they stay in character just as much as fun - you might be surprised by its similarities to HC.
Tbf, some of the cast doesn't really go that hard at roleplaying as this video makes it seem. Smallishbeans especially does it in a way where he's actively mocking it the entire time, and he's got a very similar vibe to Grian, since they're quite close friends. In S1 he rejected the roleplaying aspect to focus on his building, to the point where he didn't know the name of the demon that the whole SMP had been fighting for like ten episodes. In S2, he went all in with the lore, except it's just him stating he's 11 feet tall over and over again. His videos can be really intense and aggressive though. Watch like, ep 1-4 of his Season 2 series, and you'll know if you're into it or not. He's honestly an amazing builder though, like if you don't care for Empires, watch his building a desert city in 24 hours, it's fantastic. As a HC and Empires watcher, he's definitely one of the most hard-working people in the MCYT scene right now.

What if when the Hermits return back they will also be scrambled so parts of their skins will get mashed together? It could lead into many machines trying to get them back to normal just like how they tried getting their colours back in Season 6 after Demise.

I've watched all of S8 and S9 of Hermitcraft, all of the *Life series, and most of Empires and this video is literally the first time I learned what "SMP" stands for.
Here's a potential lore crafting ... In order for HC gang to return to HC server. Ethos must reignite the rift on the HC side to bring back the HC group.
Another plot bunny: In doing so, an accident have occurred and some of HC member get scatter in the vast multiverse.
It's always a treat when Sloy narrates!
Nice summery, hopefully it will give some clarity for those who hasn't followed empires smp before the crossover. 😀
If you haven't watched Empires season 1, go back and binge it for a great story and countless laughs. Then you'll be in on all the allusions back to the original season happening in the season 2 lore, especially from Mythical Sausage.
And don't forget Lizzie's musical after you've finished season 1

What I want to know is specifically how do they do the different cosmetic changes? I’m looking into doing something similar but I can’t quite figure out how to implement it. Especially in a way where you don’t have to see the same name over the top of every mob that uses the same custom texture.

I started watching Empires when I found that Gem was on it. Now I watch Gem and False.
Sadly I don't have time to watch some of the other players from there. I would have to cut back my Hermits just to do that. But players like Sausage, Smajor, and some others I have seen on Hermits Life series. Plus also in Gem's and False's versions of this, and, I find them all fun and interesting to watch.
