- We have a new project! A 1973 VW Sports Bug has come into the shop, so lets start the revival on this car! It needs a little love but a good tune up should be be a start!

6:55 Hey @Dubwerks, I'm new to the beetle scene and was wording what that yellow tool is named so I can purchase one online for when I'm going to change mine.
My first car was a yellow1973 VW Sports Bug just like this one. I bought it when I was a senior in high school. Even though it had many mechanical issues, I really enjoyed driving it!

I rarely see VWs on the road these days. Back in the 80s, in Missoula, MT, there was a company that sold reconditioned/restored Volkswagen Beetles. They were badged Golden Beetle and each car came with a warranty.

Sport Bug & Sun Bug with sunroof are my two favorite Limited Edition Volkswagen Super Beetle models. A close third is the La Grande Super Beetle limited edition. Congrats DubWerks on this fine acquisition Limited Edition Sport Bug ! The banter between you and Jason is refreshing ! To see the support Jason gives you is quite stellar ! Just need to involve Josh into this mix and get his humor as part of the conversation ! My own search is for a 1974 Volkswagen Super Beetle with sunroof. Am one who actually likes the bigger bumpers and the new front bucket seat style of the 1974 model - pre fuel injection. Am planning on going to Pasco county FL/Dade City fairgrounds for a classic Volkswagen air-cooled event November 13th ! There is just something about the sound of an air-cooled Volkswagen motor that is intoxicatiing - no mistaking that sound ! Slainte' ! Cheers !
My father owned a bunch of VWs, including 3 Westfalias. I know that sound. I used to curl up in the back of the camper van and those engines were like music to me. The last van had a 2000cc engine and "extractor" exhaust with a long pipe out of the back. It burbled every time you took the gas off. It would do 45-50 on tough hills with the whole famdamily in it.

I bought a 74 super brand new back in the day. Paid, I think, $3400. Great car, but it was kind of a bobber with the front struts. Steering damper went out too.
Cool! We'll see how this one rides one day.
I had a '73 SB in early '90. Put $452 in the motor. The motor is still going. The car got cut up and dismantled for another SB.
I wish it was still that affordable!
I've owned a lot of Volkswagens in my time a lot maybe not as many as you what cylinders not firing or is bad I drove a Volkswagen van once on three cylinders down to Florida from Ohio and back that bug is not running correctly

Well, again…it’s just me. IMO. I would pull that out, and start from scratch.
Who knows what lies inside?
Chrome J tubes, wacky exhaust, no rear breastplate, open fan shroud holes….probably no thermostat. Is a dead giveaway to someone who didn’t have a clue how these engines operated.
And running that engine like that, for any length of time. Is of course a death sentence.
But who am I …

Does it still have the light under the ashtray, illuminating the heater knobs?
Oh it needs to come out for sure. It does have a thermostat though, it's failed open. Not sure on the light, love the buzzer!
