Great job with this. I admittedly couldn't focus on understanding stagger talents when the topic came up in other videos because there was more to take in than just the stagger mechanics. Having these specific explainer videos explain the concept from scratch makes a real difference.
Good info design. Having those overlays showing the numbers, etc. on top is very helpful. And I'd be remiss if I didn't mention the nice environment you picked for putting the dummies, etc. Enjoyed the wall art. 😉
I'm so glad to finally come across a video explaining stagger using the visual aid of actually showing the numbers and the dummies getting hit! I've watched several videos explaining stagger, but never understood it, and the descriptions in the game really is not helpful at all by themselves. I think I finally understand it now.
Thank you very much. Man I was so confused with this mechanic. The word 'stagger' is misleading. I thought that these talents increased damage on an enemy only during the "stagger animation" that stops monsters actions.
Thank god for this video, I thought stagger only happened when you pushed or did heavy’s. I also thought the first enemy hit meant first enemy hit in the mission lmao
What this guide neglects to mention is stagger vs Monsters. Normal weapon attacks never stagger a monster, and therefor never gain damage vs stagger bonuses. Smiter DOES work (at 20%) vs monsters, as does Assassin, but the only way to benefit from Mainstay or Bullwark is to hit the monster with a "heavy stagger" such as a Footknight charge or bomb, and even then the benefit is only momentary. Also it's worth keeping in mind that Power affects things other than just damage. Power determines how many enemies your attacks can cleave through and how much you knock them around. So even if the raw damage is lower it's very possible that higher Power will be more valuable anyway.
Mainstay isnt necessarily equal to Smiter within 2 shots because Mainstay's damage bonus would only apply if the 1st attack staggered it and the 2nd attack hit it before it recovered from stagger. Smiter provides value even if you cannot stagger it at all or you have to space your attacks and thus cant hit it before it recovers from stagger. I only see use in Mainstay if you have a weapon with Armor Sliding (so that you can stagger and damage multiple armored enemies), if you want better Horde damage, or you have a Shield Opportunist build such that you can always gurantee staggering an elite before hitting it. So it's something you have to build around more.
Enhanced power>Mainstay all day, there are only 3 usable Stagger Talents, the other 2 are trash, Mainstay is not all that much better than EP and EP boosts too many others things to justify using Mainstay over it. Bulwark needs a buff, damage boost needs to be 15% and time needs to be 3 seconds, 2 is far too short and 10% is fuck all. Then again As I play on console, the Characters with Bulwark available, you need EP for Breakpoints cus enemies have more health than they do on PC so can never use it anyway even if they did buff it.
Great video as always knife-kun! i've finally hit 500 hours in vermintide and you've been my favorite content creator for this game since i got into it. @@ThePartyKnife could you maybe do a focused "fix" of underwhelming careers rather than a variety of OP talents? For example, fixes you would make to Outcast Engineer and Pyro to make them more competitive.
@@aetherblackbolt1301 Maybe I will do both! :D But honestly most days I wake up not knowing which video I will be working on unless there is a very specific project I've been working on from the previous day that I plan to finish hehe! :D
I remember you saying before that the stagger animation and stagger count are two different things, but would it be accurate to assume that as battle wizard when I am spamming little conflag bursts staggering enemies I am putting enemies at stagger lvl 1 and likely 2 so therefore my allies go in dealing maximum damage from the get go? This could work really well for careers like grail knight to hit even higher damage thresholds with their first hit correct? In what order does stagger count apply? If a person with bulwark hits an enemy after someone else does that enemy still get a debuff?
Will someday you make a vid about stagger breakpoint? Like how much power needed to stagger the monk/berserker mid combo, or elites's overhead, special's attack (ratling, firerat, leech, hookrat...)
The honest answer is I don't know... I've considered it on multiple occasions but the problem is that the amount of math that goes into doing that calculation properly is quite daunting to explain in any meaningful way that actually wouldn't be redundant considering there is a steam guide where you can look up the power requirements for most weapons vs most enemies. :P Not entirely ruling out the possibility but it most likely won't be in the near future. I do appreciate the idea though and thank you so much for watching m8!
I am confused about the bulwark talent. Does „staggering“ and enemy mean to just hit him to set him to stagger 1 or 2 or does it mean to actually make him tumble and interrupting his attack thus making sense why a shield weapon is preferable? It’s always confusing to me which „stagger“ is meant.
when they tumble backwarts they are in some case of form staggered. But it doesn't matter if they are lying on the ground or still standing in front of you they are either in stagger 1 or 2. To bulwark.. I dont play gk but as far as I understand it it is that if you stagger anything the enemies take 10% additional damage from any source. For example there is a horde and you alone push them once (now your weapon only brings them to stagger one) then if you hit them or your teammate who just arrived (and hits in less than 2 seconds) the enemies will take 30% more damage. If someone else would do the exact same they would only take 20% more damage.
1) how much stagger push attack do? i play haidenmaiden with push attack talent 30% speed, so smite is not good choice for me then? 2) does staggers apply on big enemies? especially with push attack, can i assume that push + hit + hit would give me bunus damage on big enemies each time?
Im level 35 on 4 heroes completed every map on legend. but I never took the time to think about this stuff... I always used enchanced power cause it's easy to understand how it works. I think I'm gonna start using mainstay on a lot of things.
hi thanks for the video i understood a lot of things ! i still have some questions tho is stagger linked to an animation ? is there one or two animation for every enemy that represent stagger 1 and stagger 2 ? do bosses and monsters have a stagger ? do they even have a stagger 2 ?
So we have two types of stagger ''Actual Stagger'' which you can visibly see on the minion when it's either slightly disabled and steps back for a second or heavily disabled causing it to kinda drop for a moment depending on the minion. But then you have ''Stagger Count'' which is completely separate and has no animation but can and sometimes will go hand in in hand at least to some extend with stagger count. More accurately, the actual staggering of a minion (actual stagger) will also apply a stagger count that will often be correlated since a heavy attack might heavy stagger the minion but also apply stagger count = 2. But It's also possible to heavy attack a chaos warrior which will not get staggered but you still apply stagger the count. Hope that makes sense!:)
@@ThePartyKnife wow thanks for the quick responses ! yeah very clear , i will try and use this knowledge to steal elites and green circles from my elf friend
The only ones worth using are: *Smiter* for hitting break points with high damage melee like Ex sword for example. *Enhanced Power* (better then Mainstay overall due to near identical damage overall but more stagger and cleave plus ranged damage boost). And *Assassin* as majority believe it's the best overall for boosting melee crit and headshot damage, so amazing on Shade and WHC. Mainstay and Bulwark are pointless, Mainstay just gets overshadowed by Enhanced Power's similar damage and the other benefits it provides, Bulwark damage bonus is too small and does not last long enough, maybe if it was 15 or 20% for 3 seconds instead of 2 then maybe, but as it is now no good, plus it's harder to hit stagger breakpoints with Bulwark as you can't use Enhanced Power then, maybe doesn't matter on lower difficulties but on Cata or higher it's a must to use Enhanced Power over Bulwark.
That doesn't seem right. My damage output will be greater with mainstay if I'm using weapons with cleaving push attacks or fast and cleaving light attack sequences. Not to mention that on cataclysm the difference ought to be even more noticeable as the minions have more HP.
@@SirCrusher Mainstay does 160% damage on Stagger 2 while Enhanced Power is 150.5%, it's so close that Mainstay is not worth it.
