Midnight represents the next evolution in blockchain technology, termed as a fourth-generation platform. It is designed with advanced features to operate fully independently, without the need for anchoring to any existing layer-one blockchain like Cardano. Despite this autonomy, Midnight has formed a strategic partnership with Cardano, not out of necessity, but to capitalize on Cardano's robust and well-established ecosystem. This partnership is mutually beneficial, allowing Midnight to tap into Cardano's strong security features, its vibrant community for quicker adoption, and the liquidity that Cardano's market presence offers. Midnight is what Cardano is supposed to be, but we needed 5 years of research and development just to get to rhe starting line. Would be cool that the only way to get dust is to trade ADA for it.
Cardano: Failed smart contracts, failed scaling with plenty of excuses for Hydra, now Hoskinson incapable of making Cardano interoperable, so he pretends Midnight was made for Cardano. Midnight is as much for Bitcoin as Cardano. Nothing Hoskinson touches works.

I would hope that the airdrop leaves all ADA holders just as vested in Midnight as they are in ADA. If this was to happen, I don't see how any ADA holders could complain. Short of this, there are many concerns ranging from ADA's future, basic trust, the ecosystem, the community, and some of this will also apply to Midnight too (overall same author as ADA).

Are you kidding me? This is not good news for Cardano. This is essentially sunsetting or at best it is diluting ADA’s market cap. These people do not care about increasing the value of ADA.
It’s a brand new independent blockchain that adds nothing to Cardano. He’s saying it. Your ADA bags are going lower as people migrate to Midnight.

So Midnight has no relation to Cardano other then IOG, and leveraging Cardano for its Liquidity and Community? I think peoples concerns that it will drain Cardano of its projects and developers is valid. Unless you can explain why not. As he said Midnight doesn't need Cardano
Exactly. Midnight will not only dilute Cardano’s market cap, but it will also take away users.
But after seeing how IOG works, I’m convinced they’re just dangling the carrot further and further away. Fool me twice, shame on me.
I think Cardano is fine, but as a store of value or a chain to work in is a freaking island with no interoperability, and nothing that benefits its users.
I’m moving on until Cardano decides what the heck they’re doing with ADA. I’m not interested in midnight.
It's exactly the same as Polygon on Eth.... Ethereum is settlement layer but it doesn't ever use ETH, it uses MATIC. Same way Cardano will be settlement layer but ADA will not be touched. DUST will be used. Midnight will be able to interact with other blockchains.

Good luck to Charles. Mark Cuban called it perfectly. I hope he accomplishes what he sets himself to do. So far Cardano is one of many Ethereum competitors, and it is not at the top of the list. Now Midnight will eat Cardano.

Compete? Cardano is a 3rd gen chain. Midnight they said is a 4th gen. The guy says they're improving on the short comings of cardano. Doesn't sound like competing so far to me...sounds like they might ditch Cardano....I have bag of cardano so gonna need to watch this closely...

What I’m hearing is Midnight is an improved version of Cardano that doesn’t have a large community and ecosystem of Cardano YET. Are we supposed to believe that both of them are gonna thrive? I don’t think so, otherwise why do they need to Airdrop to Cardano holders?

Yeah I don't think this benefits Cardano other than the initial airdrop. It benefits the initial token holders of the new chain to latch on to Cardano's ecosystem but there's nothing here I see that brings long-term value to Cardano or ADA.

ADA holders (if staked) should receive ongoing Midnight rewards every epoch from fees or inflation. Don't know yet if it will be Midnight token or Dust. At least that's how side chains are supposed to work.

What i understand is that it will be ez voor Cardano SPO's to run midnight and drop dust tokens to delegators. Creating at start a widespread decentralized currency with the benefits of of de ada ecosystem but also the privacy. How Cardano benefits from this is more txs, more community, airdropped dust. This is how i see it but could be wrong

In regard to IOG putting USDC on the ADA blockchain, I wonder if their focus is more centered on getting USDC on the midnight chain? Especially now that the two guys from Algorand are on the job (Sean Ford and David Markley).

Midnight will be a blockchain tech for private entities to use for their own data needs. Things like hospital records etc were never going to end up on a public ledger blockchain. There are uses for blockchain outside of Defi etc.

Midnight and Cardano have different use cases. If they get the tokenomics/incentives correct, it will be magical. Kind of like Microsoft Office suite. We benefit from all the new tools they create, even if we dont use them all because the people that do, still have to buy all of Office.
What's the tax implication in US for the Midnight airdrop? Crypto needs a way for user to opt out of these airdrops. Users might not actually want airdrops if there's tax burden.
Don't worry we will be geoblocked. And the chain will clawback the airdrops from US users for a "development" fund.
You'll never pay more in taxes than what you make. So, no need to stress over earning more just because of the taxes.

I left Cardano because of the lack of useful applications plus a constant need to posture as a cutting edge / latest generation Blockchain.
This was fantasy then and is fantasy now. Why?
Everything being described as "novel use cases" already exist as applications on other blockchains that are faster, cheaper, and more interoperable.
Cardano is wayyyy behind and the founders must know this. The community has been infighting for years, governance is broken, and there is very little on-chain development despite being permissionless.
Now airdrops & last cycle's buzz words will be used to attract exit liquidity so insiders can dump on misinformed retail.
I hope I'm wrong, but I've seen this in the last cycle.
And before anyone starts an argument, I would like to point out that using proof of work to enhance proof of stake security is not new.
