Real Talk, Cody: Don't plan anything soon, not even for March. Your baby will be here in less than a month! You will get no sleep for at least a month after he's born. Kelsey will need whatever energy you DO have for other things besides training. Plus your baby will be SO freaking irresistible. You'll want to spend a ton of time with him. Don't make plans, don't set goals -- at least not big ones. Take a hearty paternity leave. Focus on your growing family. I think you will do this naturally, but sometimes it's hard to fathom beforehand just HOW MUCH changes when you have a kid and how draining those first few months can be -- for BOTH parents. That said, it's great that you're "discovering" walks right now because those might be the best form outdoor activity for your family for a while. Bring Kelsey and the baby with you and go for walks together (short ones to start). And when you do start running, get a good jogging stroller with big tire wheels. Best of luck to you!
Yes, all of this for sure! There’s actually a few CZcamsrs I’m subscribed to who are having babies next year & it’s reminding me of when my son was first born. My husband & I slept in shifts (he had six weeks of paternity leave.) We each took turns sleeping for four hours until we both got a solid eight for the day. & my son was the kind of newborn who only ever wanted to be held even while sleeping. Would just cry & cry if he was laid down. You never know what the temperament of your newborn is gonna be until they’re born!
@@preciouspear7619 I relate so much! My second child is eight weeks now. I'm working on my PhD, and before she was born, I was thinking "Oh, I can TOTALLY finish a dissertation chapter during maternity leave." Haha NOPE. It's all baby, all the time.
Going on walks with the baby is actually great advice. It's a good way for them to take naps and get used to the outdoors. Plus an awesome way for you and Kelsey to get time with each other without too many distractions. I've friends with babies who never used to go on walks with their partners but now they love doing it. Sometimes the baby's napping schedule gets adjusted to it- both of my friend's babies fall asleep immediatly when they go out now and start walking. It's nice to get out of the house and even to just sit on a bench for a while and relax in the sun + then you can have quality time and chat with each other without as much stress
@@sofiae99 for the first month or so of my child's life, going on walks was my ONLY exposure to the outdoors, haha! And I had to really motivate myself to do it. Hey Cody! Just wanted to hop in to show some appreciation to you and really the whole running community, just finished my first ever marathon in honolulu after a year of getting my shit together and losing 70 lbs. On top of that i proposed to my girlfriend at the finish line and I can't believe all something as simple as running has done for my life. Im just so grateful i found this community and all the amazing people. Thanks y'all.
Real talk as someone with chronic illness and joint issues, walks are underrated. As a former athlete I sometimes try to keep up with that version of myself tend to try and push my body past what it is actually capable of. But by doing so I am not respecting my body. And also just remembering to be grateful that I get to walk in the first place! These days I am really learning to love my daily long walks as a 32 year old lady
i (28F) fuck heavy with walking nowadays. i used to workout at the gym with hella pre workout and made myself stressed out from it and made it so “important” to lift heavy every day that i started hating it and also injured myself. i love walking now because it allows me to be mindful or it allows me to mindlessly get lost in a podcast while also moving my body. Ive never really watched the Cody Trains vids (just because i have my own weird relationship with working out and seeing others do it) but im so happy i watched this one 🥲 it’s okay to slow down even if it’s just temporarily. Cody’s the best
Really appreciate the honesty. No “fitness influencer” would post the week you just did or they would just fake it. Highs and lows are a part of the game and it’s good for people to see that. Choo Choo
Walk and talk with Cody. Seeing you wake up early and just get a run in or walk motivated me to get up early even though it’s tough to get out of bed in the winter. Keep it up Cody! Chooo chooo 🚂
Just want to say super proud of you Cody, you’re killing it on all channels, you’re main, side, this one and the pod. You should be very proud of yourself, make sure to get your well deserved rest too and over the Christmas! ♥️
i may never run or jog again because of my rheumatoid arthritis...but best believe im living for every vlog! rooting for you every step of the way (and maybe be living vicariously through you lol)
Sup Cody, I love walking, been doing at least a 1 mile walk everyday for the last 3-4 months and it's been my favorite thing. I swam for half my life but since graduating college and getting a job I haven't felt like I have time to do it and my motivation to be active faded. But walking during my lunch break has allowed my weight to stop going up which has been a nice feeling and makes me happy especially during winter cause I at least get to see the sun for like 20ish minutes. So as an active walker hoping to find time to do more and get back to having an athletic lifestyle I hope you know your videos are very motivating and was one of the main reasons I started to do my walks.
This channel has honestly helped me so much. Thanks for sticking with it. I have my first three marathons on the books for the year and I’ll be having these on repeat.
cody you have inspired me to TRAIN! im 18 yo and realllllly unfit for my age. im 5'3 135lb female so nothing should be stopping me physically but i ran a 3.5 miles on a hilly terrain in like 42min trying to get faster
I ran my 2nd marathon this year. I watch your videos every week and it keeps me motivated! Can’t wait for 2024, appreciate your content brotha 🤙🏽🤙🏽 Aloha from Hawaii🌴🌴
i need to get back to training consistently. ran a half at the beginning of November and then took a couple weeks off to relax and reset... and I'm still relaxing and resetting. goal is to get out there today and get going again even though its freezing outside. choo choo!
Just got fitted for my first pair of running shoes in a long time! You’ve inspired me to start running again. Got my first 5k in Feb and hopefully I can make my way up to a marathon. Thats the goal at least lol. Love the vids as always
Hey Cody! Love your shi-stuff… just great stuff all around. I’ve been a runner by fate not choice for 10 years now and living + running in nyc has taught me how to layer for the winter. That being said highly recommend Patagonia’s R1 line for anything 30-50° anything colder than 30° & I throw on a down vest to keep my tummy warm. Not dead yet so thought I’d recommend. Also if you’re looking to do a race in March would love to see you back in nyc for the half marathon! Choo choo 🚂
Lowkey getting emotional knowing it’s gonna be ‘Cody walks with his kid on the beach’ in the foreseeable. My best memories with my dad as a kid were the beach walks. And honestly as a grown adult, our walks are still just as valuable. I’ve moved to the city and I miss these walks sorely, but much dad still finds the time to meet me and walk with me around the city parks. Never ever underestimate the power of walking. It’s where the best memories are made❤
Hey Cody!!!! Love ur videos 😌😌 just had a quick question, when training for an ultra marathon do you think it is still important to keep up with your strength training? How do you work through the knee and hip pain?
Run walks are the ultimate move! Not training for anything right now so I found a free 5k to marathon plan (This Messy Happy) with run walks *chef's kiss*
I started running pretty recently and was just wondering on average how long should it take me to build up to a half or full marathon? Been running for like a month and a 5k is like my max and would kill me hahaha!
If you’re interested in racing in March, might I suggest you make your way out to Jacksonville, FL and come try out the Gate River Run! It’s the USA 15k championships and just a great atmosphere to race in.
Rule of thumb for running in the cold: dress like you would if it was ten degrees warmer and you were just standing outside. Helps me from over/under dressing for winter runs!
CODY please do Cody walks with baby boy when he is born. I’m literally going to love seeing a Cody walks Chanel that turns into a Cody and baby walks. My dad took me for a walk every day for the first whole year of my life and he said it was the most amazing experience. Hope to see them soon!!
Hey Cody! I’ve been following your journey and thinking I could never do what you do, but now I really want to do this for my health!
