@@liam4686 that audible noise on the Astra is a broken exhaust mount. You can see the pipe jumping all over the place
@@liam4686 looks like it's a duff engine mount, exhaust mount or something securing the suspension/wheels is loose. You can see the front wheel shudder slightly on the return leg. Could even be a bit of clutch judder if the bell housing lets a tiny bit of water in and that's it scotched until it dries. No doubt an all round high miler with questionable roadworthiness!
@@liam4686 to prevent hydrolocking the engine. And I can imagine it's also better for the fan as well
0:58 BMW offers a special charcoal lining on its air filters, to ensure only highly filtered clean water enters your engine & hydrolocks it.....

@@mhkhing444 i doubt it. seems like problem with gearbox or suspension. look at the front wheel. Maybe they just use this car as fun car until it falls apart
@@grumbazor I think that clutch is worn, and if you try to slip clutch even a little bit, car shakes
It just never ceases to amaze me how many people are willing to destroy their cars for the sake of saving 5 minutes just don't make no sense to throw $50,000 down the drain❗️

Those ones are my absolute favourites. 4x4s and lookalikes are pointless for 99.9% of users, so it's always funny to see prats who've bought them discovering that they can't even get through a big puddle without wrecking it. The only thing that would have made that clip more enjoyable would have been an old dear in a Micra slowly and safely driving past.
Somebody gonna end up really hurt here, them jeeps flying into it at full tilt! Only takes a small kid to step into the path

Nobody steps into a path of vehicles. Most pedestrians are on the sidewalk.
Those BMW air filters are pretty fancy.
They are always shown nicely washed.
It’s impressive that some cars actually make it, or start again after digesting a load of water but even when they do, if they haven’t got water sealed transmissions and running gear they are still in trouble. Gearboxes and diffs all have breathers, the water will find it’s way in and begin to do it’s thing. These are great educational videos tho!

This is mesmerizing and watch often but can't help but to think of the folk further downstream with coolant, oil, grease and Lord knows what entering that river system.
Based on what I've seen in similar videos with worse weather in the same area the water flows from that side of the stream and through the Ford and under the bridge to ghe right
Why would you even take the chance !! Especially when you see 100's of people filming , you'll know what to expect , plus a very very big bill

That Beamer would have easily made it through if he hadn't been driving so fast and forced water into the air intake .
He wouldn't, because the air intake pipe is very low slung, I'm surprised bm owners are not awate of this, some Renaults are as well.

I’m amazed how little people understand regarding how a car works and that ingesting water can completely destroy a piston engine. You can’t compress a liquid in the combustion chamber. You may as well put rocks in there.

Why were the Beemers rear wheels locked? Is it an electronic transmission switch or park brake that failed so neutral couldn't be selected. Surely not just the driver not taking it out of drive as someone would have told him??

The first BMW has its air intake really low in the front bumper. Thus due to this design decision its very easy to hydrolock the engine even with the smallest puddles.
One of our neighbors used to have that gen 3-series (335i Xdrive) and it ended up getting written off when it went through a roadway with a clogged drain that did not even extend past the running boards.

If water gets pushed in and reaches the air intake (with LOTS of air being sucked in) it can reach the combustionchambres.... with a Diesel engine survival is unlikely,withn a petrol engine (because of a lower compression ratio...) you could be lucky....
If water gets mixed with the engineoil it will stil destroy the engine but it will take longer...
I don’t think a bow wave will make the difference...
I realize watching these videos how many people don't think.... Driving = GAS + BRAKE + steering wheel. They don't think how car works etc ;D

it solely depends where your intake is. driving backwards also pushes water into the exhaust which is not considered healthy for your catalytic covenverter. they can reach internal temperatures above 1000°C
