Got my P40 Pro at last and wouldn't swap it for anything! I find the photos are clear and slightly more detailed. If I wanted more saturated photos I could use software afterwards. Thanks for a great video as always Alex.

thank you for this review! I was wondering, in one of your other comparison videos about the S20 (S20 vs P30pro vs LG G8x I believe) you mentioned a problem with the autofocus of the S20... Do you think it has been solved in the mean time, with all the updates, or still a problem?
I don't know what it is about Huawei but their pictures always look more like out of a camera than the usual phones. Not saying this as a positive or a negative, it's personal preference, but it looks less overprocessed and tryhard HDR compared to other phones. I think it's an acquired taste, I personally prefer to add my own shine in post if need be or enable the vivid color mode.
yeah, I feel the same. I also edit all the pictures regardless of the phone that I take them with
well, the good thing is Huawei always prepares a lot of customization in their camera App, so I think P40 has more advantages in this matter.

@@shashanksingh2836 Google apps are just a few, there is no issue with any other app. And yeah it's soo good that America has all your data, we just saw what they did when they started loosing the 5g war haha, telling other countries not to do business because there will be sanctions otherwise, that their relations won't remain the same if they do. Also which is the country that is non stop at war?

You continue to exclusively shoot with scene mode on and spend most of the video talking about the S20 saturated colors. Not even one picture without scene mode to show the normal colors. Sorry man but I'm gonna down vote every video from now on as long as you only use the scene mode.

I have the scene mode/AI on on all phones that i try... as long as that mode is on when I take it out of the box it stays on

You think S20 captures more details but in reality it is aggressive oversharpening combined with oversaturation. The wide 40mp of the p40 Pro definitely captures more details than the 12 mp of the S20 if you crop in those samples. I would like to see more crop in those samples.

Hey there just wanted to say that for the ultra wide lens and the normal lens please only use night mode if it is too dark or very few lights. Other than that great review.

As a Huawei Mate 20 Pro user myself my phones earpiece volume is low compared to my friends Samsung Galaxy S9. Can you please reply back with the loudnness of the earpiece on the Huawei P40 Pro. Plz tell me, does the huawei p40pro uses 2times zoom for potrait shot or not??
it does, but you can switch it to 1x zoom, works the same. What you've seen in the video was taken with the 1x zoom
I seriously am Disappointed with the Night Shots from the P40 Pro. It's supposed to be far superior in the nighttime. And the Selfie is supposed to have a night mode which I have in the P30 Pro but less effective. Huawei needs to bring updates soon. Or the P40 Pro+ is going to have issues too. Regardless, excellent video for comparison again. Loved it!
I'm sure it will take them at least 2 more months to optimize the cameras and software

P40 Pro is really good. The main thing that seems like a problem with the s20 series (tried them by my self also) is the focus issue, there is just to much focus hunting. Maybe they will fix this in a firmware update, but for now I feel that the S20 serie is, good in hardware terms, but in real life usage is way overhyped... And dont forget that in Europe you get the Exynos processor S20, which delivers less than the Snapdragon equipped S20, both in terms of speed, but also in terms of image quality from the camera due to different image processing between them.

Hey Redskull, why not a comparison again after that update with the Mate 30 Pro? And why not including the Pictures made before the Update and After? Also, I don't get it why the P40 Pro looks so different compared to the Mate 30 Pro. Mate 30 Pro looks so damn good. Will Huawei get to that Level soon with more Updates? Because I see a Green and Violet Touch on the P40 Pro Pictures somehow.
I will wait for them to get a couple more updates before I make an updated comparison... I'm not sure if I will include the pictures before the update... makes the video a bit too complicated to put together
I love Leica Camera..last time I used very long life Nokia N5800 xpress music with Leica camera onboard proven very good result in true color and focus..

if you want the pictures to look as you were seeing them with your own eyes the P40 Pro will be your favourite. If you want more vivid/saturated colours the S20

Photos taken with the P40 Pro are good in most of the cases (in some low light conditions the camera will take really bad photos - i believe that it is some software bug). However, the main issue that I found was the fact that the UltraWide camera is not 40 MP as advertised, but it is actually 12 MP. If the ultrawide camera has indeed 40MP and not 12 MP, then I can only assume that this is a software bug that switches to the zoom camera when zooming out to ultra wide. Anyone else notices same issue?
Totally miss my Huawei, I switched to the s20.
Huawei is better in almost every aspect then the Samsung

Both take great photos I prefer the p40 pro with more natural colour I'm not real fan over saturated colours and I don't like Samsung's skin smoothing which alot of people don't like but Samsung still continues to do this year on year
yeah, they never learn...and the skin smoothing was turned OFF!
Galaxy S20 wins overall for me. Wonderful pics even on selfie low light shots.

I wish Samsung has less vibrant pictures or add a soft color mode.
I have a S10+ and Mate 20 Pro and that strong saturation tendency is still same on Samsung. I love the speakers of my S10+ but battery life and photography is so good on my Mate 20 Pro that I can't use my S10+ as a daily driver.
yeah, if only Samsung would tone down the colours a bit... just like 10-15%

Damn P40 Pro is amazing with that zoom. That said, from what you showed S20 has waaaaay better ultra wide camera. Not only wider, but sharper, less noisy and i wouldn't say that the colors there are oversaturated. I would say that at night the P40 Pro ultra wide is washed out too much.

why for recording at night so short it should be made a little faster and longer so the audience knows which is the best about the stabilizer

I now have the S20 + 5G (exynos) and I am a little disappointed with the camera (very saturated, not very sharp with the night mode if we look at the photo in real size), without counting the low battery life. I still have my P30 Pro and I wonder if I will put my sim back in and send back the S20 + to the web shop (30 days to change your mind)

i saw some videos that P40 pro has a night mode and you can also use flash at the same time
yeah, i'm not a big fan of the flash on any phone
...and the P40 Pro is mainly better when not using the night-mode due to the lenses setups.

colors are personal preference and details are similar
also in potrait hdr is clearly better ,p40 is blowing out the highlights in potraits

also in macro shots you can see highlights clipping on some parts so there's that

It is clearly down to preference as I favoured the P40 Pro by a large margin in low-light (video and photos). Both were fine in good light as we can de-saturate the S20 and liven up the P40 Pro. The clear winner on zoom, almost several classes ahead was the P40 Pro, Samsung needs a lot of work on their zoom. The front camera the P40 Pro looked better especially as you could correct colours post whereas poor background blur is not so easy (s20).
Certainly, if my main priority was the camera then the P40 Pro would be my easy choice. If camera ability is not a major factor both are very good.

S20 looks artificial as hell ... but after having used the Galaxy S7 for the past four years I expected nothing less from them than to push that sharpening, denoising and saturation to the absolute max and turn the images into an oil painting instead of a photo ... Going with the Xiaomi Mi 10 Pro this year because it has Google Apps though. Otherwise, the P40 would be pretty nice.

For music event, Samsung has definitely better sound. Huawei has the problem with conflicting noise cancellation microphone, a typical problem with Chinese phone. But Huawei main camera is better.

I do like this review however comparing 40pro with anything rather that S20 Ultra is comparing different tiers. S20 has 64mp and let say "interesting" zoom processing. However I don't find using zoom even on my s20 ultra. Frankly I'd have s20 if not video on Ultra 👌
I don't usually take zoom pictures either... but i did for this video because i've seen a bunch of requests in other videos

1:06, you must be blind. A part for one mistake on the right of your collar, the S20 shows much sharper edges where on the P40 Pro it's blurred (hair on top of the head, hairs on the cheeks).

At the moment I'm with p40 Pro, s20+ exynos and pixel 4...and daytime photos, photos with ultra wide camera the p40 Pro is true winner, I never seen before colors that true to live, selfies again p40 Pro,portraits equal, but in hard conditions pixel 4 win! It's strange, but p40 Pro wins also in video at the moment, Samsung has problems with auto focus and colors, also with shadows in photos.. Like one plus 7series...hopefully will fix that with feature update. Night photos.. Is hard to say there is no one clear winner... I prefer pixel 4 night photos. For zoom...nothing to compare with p40 Pro.. Second place for zoom pixel 4...actualy with no real optic zoom s20+ is very bad in zooming.

P40 Pro is definitely better than the S20, S 20 has an annoying yellowish tint to its pictures and videos both on the day and nightime pictures and videos. And overall the P 40 pro looks a lot better with more details in both pictures and videos

You're welcome, you're an excellent reviewer, picking up things that sometimes other reviewers leave out. Very detailed. The only thing I felt different from your observations on this video is the daytime videos, due to the yellowish tint especially in nightime mode, but also in some daytime samples, I felt that the Huawei had a better performance with more details in videos overall, the yellowish heuwe on S20 kind of shaded details
