- In this video we take a journey through the different styles of British beer, from the dark creamy Guiness to the lighter Golden Ales, and we will be sampling them all of course.
Interspaced with chat about different beers, pub crawls and the good old days.
Cheers Pat
Nothing better than it being a Friday, and watching Pat getting plastered in his Pub Shed. Thanks for the video, Pat, greatly appreciated.
A pleasure to share a few beers with you... hopefully brightened up a damp and dreary evening...... all the best Pat
Brilliantly put ..hes a legend
What would be funny him filming himself wobbling up the garden path back to the house.
Your a legend Pat 😂😂
And I must admit I do exactly the same choose different beers from around the country.
I was brought up drinking Green King IPA but my favourite beer is Adams Broad side
Like it Friday Night Pat and a pint ....should be made mandatory 👍
Plastered, that's what I was thinking, Like it when a bloke enjoys his hobby, quality, plastered, must use that word myself
Theres something about watching pat slowly get pissed 😂 it cracks me up, very interesting beer knowledge as always

Absolute classic video Pat, loved your comments about York, if ever I dump into you there the beers are on me!
Yes York is such a great day round the pubs, easy to get to from Sheffield on the train, may bump into you one day........ thanks Pat
Loved watching Pat,great video mate cheers 🍻🍻
Great to have you along Paul... thanks Pat 😄
Thank you Patrick. Love your videos! 😊
My pleasure.....Pat
I had a love/hate relationship with the breweries. In years gone by when the breweries had the pubs. No matter which pub you went in, it was the same price but now every pub you go in, the same beer will have a different price. Great videos you have there Patrick.
Yes it was rubbish back then, including some of the beer they sold and you had no choice but to buy, hopefully things have improved now,.......thanks Pat
Hi pat
Enjoy all your videos
Love the pub shed
Looking forward to the next videos
😊
Hi Dave and thanks for comments, always a great time in the pub shed....busy with other things at moment so might be a while before next video, time for a break........ thanks Pat
What a great chat. Very relaxing, educational and entertaining. Cheers 🍻
Thanks Guy nice to share a few pints with like minded people...... thanks Pat
Great entertainment, Pat getting hammered in his shed 🤣🤣🤣
Hi Alan...always a good time in my pub shed....thanks Pat
Great video, brought back many happy memories. I'm 63 and enjoyed many British beers since about 1976. I've lived in Surrey (amazing beers!) the NE (Newcastle Exhibition 😋) and Cornwall (Tribute and Proper Job🥰) among many other great brews....early memories 🤔 Friary Meux bitter❤️Ben Trumans etc
Yes been visiting the pubs about the same time, so many different types of beer over the years, we seem to have such a variety now, but still have my favourites , Proper Job being one of those..... thanks Pat
🍺Great video Patrick , educational , learnt something useful , as do love a beer too ,good to see you uploading videos again , you were missed , thank you 🍻🇬🇧
Hi Colin, and nice to share a few beers, just so many other things to do so CZcams will have to take a rest for a bit, always nice to chat about beer..... thanks Pat
Wonderful hour of conversation if only one sided Patrick. Always look forward to your insight whether it's on a hilltop of in your wonderful pub with no name :)
Thanks Johnny, it was like sharing a drink and a bit of chatter with old friends, felt like you were all there with me.....thanks Pat
Made my Thursday. Thanks Pat. Regards.
My pleasure Philip.....thanks Pat
Great video, really enjoyed it. I’m a Mancunian who’s lived in London for 24 years. When I go back the first stop on our pub crawl is the city arms, cracking boozer. Thanks 👍
Hi Brian, yes my favourite as well, love that little pub so cozy...... all the best Pat
I wasn’t sure whether I wanted to watch this, but once I started I just couldn’t stop; such an entertaining video! Not sure I’ve tried Porter, but like you my tastes are towards the lighter ales. Thanks Pat!
Hi Chris, yes a bit addictive chatting about beer, and all the memories it brings up..... thanks Pat
Cheers Pat, enjoyed this video with a few pints of hand pulled bitter from my home bar. Such a good review of some classic English beers. Really enjoyed this one 👍 all the best, Zach
Hi Zach, yes some of my favourite beer glad to share them...cheers Pat
Another brilliant video Pat. Really enjoyed this one.
Thanks Matt, I certainly enjoyed making it,all the videos from my pub are enjoyable to make, must be the beer...... thanks Pat
Well I really enjoyed having a beer with you Pat. It's been a hectic few weeks, and this is just what the doctor ordered. You did a proper job :)
Thanks Doug, yes bit hectic here, you would think when you finish work you would have loads of time !..... don't know where it all goes.....have a good summer \ winter..... all the best Pat
Brilliant! I too love pale ales. Enjoy your few months mate, an look forward to seeing you in the tent soon!
Enjoy Pat ❤
Thanks Philip, just too much to do at moment, but will be back at some point, just need time and a different few interests at moment..... all the best Pat 😊
You are the best drinking buddy Pat! Thank you for the company. Cheers! 🍻
Enjoy drinking with all my viewers, it's like sharing a few pint with old friends...... thanks Pat 😁
Thanks Pat for this video. A wonderful insight into proper beer. I had a few whilst watching this. Thanks to you mentioning it in an earlier video I saw Timothy Taylor Landlord being sold in a pub a year ago and decided to try it. It has become one of my most favourite drinks. I also do enjoy a proper job as well. Such good beers. The strangest thing is that I actually bought a manns bottle just before I started watching this so interesting to see that you mentioned it. I've not tried it yet but will probably give it a go. Only 2.8% so hope it doesn't taste like water 😂 But again, Pat thank you. Want a legend you are
Hi Rob yes some of my favourite beers there, so many new ones coming out, but the old dependables like Timothy Taylors are always there..... thanks Pat
Love the video Pat, very down to earth and entertaining as usual! Great to hear you mention some of the Manchester pubs that I go in. When you are in Manchester you should try and get down to Middleton, about 5 miles away. The Old Boars Head pub in Middleton is one of England's oldest establishments, dating from 1650, and is full of character. It's a JW Lees pub (JW Lees is brewed in Middleton). I am biased though because it is also my local! Keep up the excellent work, All the best, Chris.
Hi Chris, yes Manchester pubs are great, so many old unchanged pubs, just love it, Middleton sounds nice, we've only ever gone round the city pubs, might after venture into the suburbs...... all the best Pat 👍
I really enjoyed this video Pat! I also learnt a fair bit about beer too. Manchester definitely has some fantastic pubs 👍
Great to have you along, love Manchester, best pub crawl there is...... thanks Pat
Lovely to see you again, for what has been a really enjoyable tasting video from the pub shed.
My introduction to beer was back in the 1960s when I had occasions to stay over at my Grandads house in Manchester.
My Grandad kept his beer, which was in bottled, and in crates, outside the room that I was sleeping in.
I found that my favourite was a tetley pale ale. The other one he had was a Bass charington with a blue label. Both had screw tops.I was probably about 14 back then.
I don't think he knew that I was tasting them!!
I'd still prefer a pale ale over anything else. I do like Guinness, but it has to be Guinness original in bottles, not that draught stuff in cans w/ the widget.
Cheers, Patrick.
Hi David, yes a great beer tasting session in my favourite place, and shared with so many friends out there. You had a great introduction to beer back then, and yes I,am with you with the Blonde Ales...... all the best Pat 👍
Hi Pat and and thanks for another great video and your a man of my own heart as I too look for ABV% when looking for bottled beer. That milk stout you shown I highly recommend it as I’ve had several bottles from Sainsbury’s. I used to drink mix in the seventies and eighties as I’m a bitter man my self but home brewery bitter in the summer for some reason used to stink rotten and the mild used to annul the smell. Enjoy your summer what ever you do and here’s to your next video and exploits cheers 🍺🍺🍺
Hi there yes some lovely beers out there, worth looking at abv, been caught out with some really strong one, like prefer you basic blonde/ bitters, around 4% and I can drink them all day..... all the best Pat
I have to say Pat, yours is probably my favourite CZcams channel. You’re such a down to earth character and I love the variety. I don’t know how you drank so many bottles, I think I would of been asleep in the corner before I had got through so many bottles.
Ossett brew a lovely Blonde, very smooth especially hand pulled.
Timmy Taylor’s Golden Best is beautiful too, hardly ever see it unfortunately.
Back in the 80s Tetleys was always best if the beer came from their Hunslet brewery, the bitter was always lovely but their Dark Mild always went down well.
Also quite by chance I visited a friend at Christmas and as I was driving he offered me a 0% Guiness which was gorgeous, I don’t normally like Guiness but this is great so I now keep a pack in the camper so that I can have a drink and of course still be under the limit if I need to drive.
Thanks for your video and already looking forward to your next.
Yes so many great beers out there, will have to try the Guiness 0, makes sense when you,ve got to drive, and nice to have the taste of a beer, if we're up in Leeds always find some Ossett beers, very nice as well..... all the best Pat
because he's a Yorkshire lad!
Been a long time subscriber and love you videos, keep up the good work 👍😀
Been great to have you for all these years, appreciate your support...... thanks Pat
Only just found your channel Patrick. Love it. Wish I had a shed pub
Nice to have you join me for a few beers, and a few stories in my pub shed, you are very welcome ....my channel is quite varied, hope you enjoy the content...... thanks Pat
Another classic Patrick video - My American cousin loves British Beer and when he is over here he is not interested in Museums etc- he wants to go to our pubs. I must take him 'Up' North to seek out your recommendations because he has visited many good ones down here in the South. Thanks Patrick, take care.
I,am sure he looks forward to his visit, and the chance to sample some of our beautiful beer, must be quite complicated for someone not brought up in the U K..... all the best Pat 😊
The Tupton Tap, where we live, always has Oakham Citra on draft. A great pub, well worth a visit! An interesting video and nice to see you again at Barrow Hill.
Hi Geof, lovely to see you both, it's a pub I must try, especially as they have Oakham Citra...... thanks Pat 😊
Looking forward to your next video Pat. Hope you’re well and enjoying the sunshine 👍🏼
Yes , can get a bit hot, but lovely to see the blue skies, will be taking a bit of a break but return later in year....thanks Pat
Hi Pat, your pub shed renovation video was lovely to watch over lockdown and it’s nice to see being put to good use. If you’re ever in Lincolnshire make sure to pop to Docks Beers or the Consortium. Some nice light ales to be had. 🍺
Thanks Toby, loved building the pub, and thanks for the recommendations.......thanks Pat
Fantastic again there Pat. I tried to keep up with your list of pubs at the end when you talked about Manchester and York pubs. I thought I knew York quite well with my recent visit but not at all! I need to go back and follow the route you have suggested! I rather prefer the old traditional bitters myself, or more towards the darker ones towards stout but not with the fruit extra. I find so many London bars sell the very very hoppy IPAs and I can't quite get in to them. Such a good video again Pat, thank you for sharing your time with us. Cheers, Warren :)
Hi Warren, yes all those pubs I mentioned are great for a drink, all have a great choice of beers, and there drinkers pubs, nice and cozy, great to chat and drink in..... all the best Pat
Cracking vid pat. Brought a few memories back
Me as well Andrew, really enjoyed making it.....thanks Pat
This has made my week 😊 it's been a while since a shed pub video
I'll watch tomorrow night when I'm having a guinness
Be nice to share a few beers with you tomorrow.....all the best Pat
@Patrick Dickinson I finished work early and had that Friday feeling so I had a few pints and enjoyed the new video
There was quite a few beers you sampled that I have walked past so many times in the supermarket and yet never tried them ....I'll probably give some of the darker ones a go before summer starts ..cheers 🍻
Great Presentation. Sadly my drinking days are over due to health issues however i enjoyed watching you sink those pints with my tongue hanging out...lol. Cheers mate, have another on me👍👍🍻
Great to share a few drinks, in thought only, and to share some chat and banter, all the best Pat
Outstanding Pat lad, what a treat! Love a pint of Landlord, probably my favorite at the moment. In the late 70s and early 80s, survived at uni on Marstons Pedigree, and loved a pint of Mild at the George in Tideswell, and of course a pint of mixed. Robinson’s pub I think it was then. When last in the UK in 2019 it was Landlord, Black Sheep, Riggwelter or Old Peculier ... with the odd Wainwright in there to. Happy days. Have fun and see you in the next one. Cheers lad.
Hi Gary, yes a classic English ale is Landlord, and Pedigree another favourite but fon,t see it so much.
We were at the George last August bank hol for live bands and dancing over two night, great weekend and we've booked for this year as well, I will check the beer out.... all the best Pat
Cracking video as always Pat - have to agree with your views on Newkie Pukey. Had a trip to one of your local bottle shops recently - Berry and Rye - got some cracking brews from Abbeydale Brewery and Little Critters that would go down a treat up Kinder Scout I imagine! Enjoy your holidays and beer festivals Pat, and I look forward to your next film in early summer- all the best and cheers 🍻🍻
Hi Johnathan , yes just can't get on with Newky Brown, especially as so many nice beers out there, just too much happening in next couple months, no need to put myself under pressure, as I'm retired, all the best see you later..... Pat
We enjoyed your video, very informative and entertaining! The barrow hill roundhouse is in the next village from me, but ive never been!!
Hi there, we will be at Barrow Hill on Fri 19 May, such a enjoyable day out...... thanks Pat
There's nowt like a good English beer to quench the thirst. My regular tipple right now is Guinness, but I am partial to a porter from time to time. Wainwright is also a lovely drink. I came down off Kinder Scout a few weeks ago after taking my sister for her first training session in preparation for the Yorkshire 3 Peaks. They had Titanic plum porter on in The Ramblers at Edale. I could only have a 1/2 as I was driving. Gutted. Great to see you enjoying yourself Pat, looking forwards to your next adventure.
Hi Andy, nice to know they have Plum Porter, my wife will be very pleased, always a nice time in the pub shed, see you on the next one...... thanks Pat
Love it Patrick, as with all of your videos. I’ve got a Fizzics machine which is great for smoothing out fizzy bottled beer making the bubbles smaller. Operates via batteries or USB connection. Massively improves the beer. I’ve convinced a number of friends on taste tests who were sceptical. Worth a look. Cheers Patrick for your videos
Hey that sounds really interesting, my main dislike of bottled beer is the gas, so this sounds just perfect, I will have a look..... thanks Pat
great vid pat, i especially love the milds and fruit beers.
Yes so many nice beers out there.....thanks Pat
After getting used to hand pumped beers, even the draft beers taste like an artificial version of the good stuff. Not to mention the bottled beer. I discovered that pouring bottles into a larger container and pulling the beer with a beer engine might bring the bottled beer closer to cask beer. It's not the same, but less fizzy and reveals the flavours of the beer a little better, so in my books, it's an improvement! Thanks for a great video and have a great summer Pat!
Yes I,ve seen someone doing same thing on CZcams, once I ran out of beer in a box and to keep it flowing I poured 6 or so bottles in, all different but it pulled lovely...... thanks and all the best Pat
Hi Patrick. Another great video. We have a couple of titanic pubs close by to us and love a visit most weekends. Keep up the good work
Yes very nice beer that titanic plum porter, very plummy, have tried some of the others at Beer Festival,s..... thanks Pat
Clattered again Pat, excellent. I always liked a Mackeson stout, makes a lovely Black n Tan. Next time your out get into Bradfield Brewery, next to the Old Horns, they have some smashing beers. Well worth the visit.
Thanks Alan I will, was sat outside the Old Horns last summer...... thanks Pat
Love this video, my mum and I have a big shed at the end of the garden at her house that we've converted into the "party shed" with its own bar installed at one end with all optics and glassware from pubs from the 1960s or 1970s, so very inkeeping with my early experiences of pubs when i was a nippier. Your shed looks a tad fancier, but we were going for rustic/low budget with ours 😂
Sounds a great plan you have there, and luckily alot of the glassware and pub gear, beauty of it is you can keep adding bits at anytime......all the best with your pub..... thanks Pat
Great video Pat, great brewery local to me is Vocation, fantastic IPA and American style pale ale if you like lighter blonder beers. Life and Death is a favourite.... the cans are OK but a local pub at the train station gets it on draught regularly, it's a little bit like Jaipur. Beautiful beer 👌I'd agree on York too, great crawl up there. Thanks for sharing, David 👍
PS you did well there, I'd s been slurring and going off topic 😂
Hi David, yes heard of Vocation Brewery, and that IPA sounds great, all the better on drought. Looking forward to our annual York trip in August, a great day out, as long as you don't miss the last train back........ all the best Pat
Good evening Patrick…..you are 100% my kind of guy, A she’d / Pub full of superb beers 👍🇮🇲👌😃
Hi Andy, yes what could be better, always a good time in my pub shed...... thanks Pat
I'm still inspired by your videos to make my own pub-shed, starting small, making a bus stop for the kids first, cheers
If you enjoy making things then a pub shed is a great project...... all the best Pat 😁
Thanks for this Pat, very enjoyable cheers 🍻
Hi Stephen, I had a great time making it...... all the best Pat 😊
Another great video again Pat it made me very thirsty so had a beer or two while watching. Enjoy your break sir. Atb Johnny :)
Thanks Johnny, and always great to share a beer with you all, no matter what time it is...... all the best Pat 😊
thank you Sir Patrick for another fantastic video
My pleasure Barry, like having a drink with old friends, just loved making it........ all the best Pat 😁
Thanks Pat this was a great way to see out the working week with a few cold ones :D
Hi Chris, great to share a few beers with you ...... thanks Pat
Hic.. enjoyed it . Look forward to the nxt in the hills 👍🤘
Thanks Alison, I like a bit of variety, and a few beers...... thanks Pat
Thoroughly enjoyable 55 minutes.
I was having a pint with you virtually as we have real trouble getting ale here in Dubai.
I actually have had to recourse to a heavy lager called Redhorse that I drink warm. Not a bad tipple but 8% ABV so can't have to many.
I grew up with Ram and Special (Youngs Brewery Wandsworth )
Grew up in the pub trade so this was a nice trip down memory lane.
Always nice to share some time in the pub, and nice to share a beer or two with you, your Redhorse sounds a powerful one, one to take it easy with.....all the best Pat
Fantastic video again when I lived in Sheffield was always stones lot more choice now very informative
Hi David, yes Stones was very popular in alot of pubs I used to visit....... thanks Pat
'Pint of mixed please' now there's a blast from the past Pat 😆👍 don't hear that anymore! Great vid 👏👌
Hi Shaun yes used to be a popular drink, not now……thanks Pat
I have fond memories of Christmas family gatherings and the Party 7's! 😆😆
Not that I was allowed any 😆 too young, mum and dad would let me have a snowball though 😎😂
It was good to see you at your bar! Was hoping for an exploring video as it's been ages since you did one. Hope you didn't get a headache after you did this one!
Always nice in the pub shed, exploring difficult as no local places, but might have a river to wander along......... thanks Pat
Hi PAT. Great upload and quite interesting too. I do miss a pint of Wards Best. I did enjoy a few of those in my time. ;-)
Yes remenber Wards, was found in so many Sheffield pubs, a proper bitter.....thanks Pat
love the pub shed videos pat! usually have a pint when watching
Love making these videos from the pub shed, and great to share a pint and some quality time with my viewers....... thanks Pat 😊
Fantastic video as always and a pleasure to have you in my living room.
Maybe a whiskey tasting video or a pub crawl video round Sheffield
It was a pleasure to share a few beers with you, like drinking with old friends, just loved it..... thanks Pat 😊
So good to see you, Pat! A bottle will do in a pinch!
Nice to hear from you Kerry, yes bottles aren't best, but gave me the variety I wanted... thanks Pat
@@patrickdickinson6492 you inspired me to build my own pub shed, Pat. It’s not quite as luxurious as yours, I fear, but still a nice place for a few pints or a sip of whiskey.
Another great video Pat! I’ve just nearly completed all the traditional pubs in Manchester ( being a Manchester lad who now lives in Lodge moor) you mentioned all my favourites, although I still need to do the Britons protection out of the ones you said. Another belter that you need to try is The Gas Lamp on bridge street, which was an old orphanage kitchen.
Hi Shaun, Brittons Protection, a lovely pub, once in you will have trouble leaving, especially in the back room. I lived at Lodge Moor for many years with my parents, Worcester Drive, we moved there in 1966, sold my Dad's house about 10 years ago.
I will look at the pubs you mentioned..... thanks Pat
Loved this video 😂 I've only been waiting for a new video since your last 1. ❤
Hi Faye, yes I been a bit busy with all sorts, and May and June look even worse but got some good ideas for future videos and will be back at some stage....see you sometime..... thanks Pat
Hey Patrick! Nice to see you in the pub again. If youre ever in Birmingham again theres 2 wonderfull pubs you would love called the Craven Arms an the Barton Arms!
Hi there yes heard of excellent Craven Arms, probably a bit too far out, I will check out Barton Arms....... thanks Pat
Hi Patrick! Love your pub and beer talk, watching from your early pub build. I have a humble home bar called the Tiki Path that came into existence during the early days of the pandemic. This longer video was a joy to watch as I enjoyed some pours of my favorite bourbons. Being from New England we do love our IPA's although now I prefer something a little lighter or on the malty style in the fall season. I'd like to suggest that you pour the bottle ales directly into your glass, not on the side, to release some of the carbon dioxide. It has done well for me to not feel full to soon.
Hi David, could imagine your Tiki bar severs some nice cocktails , loved making the video, it was like drinking with friends all over the world, I will try pouring direct, although don,t intend drinking too much bottled beer...... thanks Pat
Great video Pat,I do like a sampling of different beers from time to time, just to mix things up a bit,I think I would struggle doing 8 in a row though,so well done for that 👍
Hi Mark, yes all part of the fun, trying different ales, great time...... thanks Pat
Top man as usual Pat👍
I’m a Brummie and frequently use all the pubs you mentioned. Was in the Contemptible yesterday!! A couple more to add next time you’re in Brum are , Bacchus bar right by New street station (100yds from Shakespeare) and the Good intent, (200 yds from Old C’s)👍
Post when you’re coming to Brum next and you will have a few friends join you!!!
Also you must try Wye valley HPA!!👍 I think you’d enjoy it immensely 😂
Once again, top video from a top bloke! Thanks Mate! Paul
Hi Paul, had some great days out round your pubs in Brum, love how there all near the station, and great selection of beers Baccus and Good intent, will have a look on next visit, thanks for the info, always a good day in the pub shed..... thanks Pat
Ps. Pat, both these boozers are in Victorian arcades which you may have to ask directions to. Bacchus is underground!!! Happy supping!!🍺🍺
Pure class, can’t wait for your next one 😊
Thank you so much Ken, be a few weeks, but see you on the next one...... thanks Pat
❤ brilliant love your videos thanks Pat 😊
Appreciate that Gary...... thanks Pat
Thank you Patrick, great vid, and quite nostalgic, Newcastle Brown was my first Beer, then Pedigree and Theakston's, I then went onto the various Hobgoblins, Unfortunately back in 2012 I was at a historical re-enactment weekend and drank two tankards of Broadside followed by various rums, the following morning my head and body felt like it had spent a week on the Somme, I've not drank much since, just cant get the taste back for alcohol at all, I am trying to find something I can drink, but may have to resort to traditional English mead 🍺, Cheers😀
Some nice beers there, and yes we all over do things, I still haven't learnt my lesson after 50 years. Broadside is a dark strong ale, not to be taken too lightly , now mead that's something I have not drink a lot of...... thanks Pat
