As a white, UK born, 72 year-old male, I have never subscribed to the idea that I should be proud to be British. How can I be proud that my mother was in a certain country when I was born? I can be proud of what I personally have achieved but not of what other people have achieved.
Lately, with our government supporting war in Ukraine and massacre of civilians in Gaza, claiming that they have pleaded with the Israeli administration to rein in their attacks yet we continue to supply the weapons used for the killing, I feel nothing but shame.
I’ve been watching Novara, amongst other serious news channels, for a few years. I no longer have any confidence in mainstream news media. Please carry on with your very valuable work.

@kaiserblazer there is a difference between the pride of the oppressor and the pride of the oppressed. (The saying applies also to violence!).

@@anniebrown0071 So an arab in Palestine, it's good to be proud of being an arab. But if that same person moves to Saudi Arabia, they should stop being proud of being an arab.
Because arabs are oppressed in Palestine but are the oppressors in Saudi Arabia.

Yes the whole thing of being “proud” of thing that aren’t an achievement has always seemed odd to me too, but it seems like people use “proud” in loose ways, like they say it when they actually mean “not ashamed” and also to just mean “there’s things I enjoy and appreciate about this part of my identity”. I can say I’m proud to be British & English in the context of the latter examples, because there’s lots of things I enjoy, love and find worthwhile about our grass roots culture and history.

He is a tool of the American state and has already said that he intends to increase our 'defence' spending (in line with their wishes). On the other hand, the NHS, which is the only bit of England's history I am really proud of, is going to continue its decline under his watch. If you give people safe legal routes then boat crossings are unnecessary. We won't be wasting a ton of money either

How about opening centres where they can apply for asylum from safety? Then they would never need to take a boat

@@chrstnldg6652 There are legal routes from India and Albania to UK, yet they are illegally in record numbers.
Legal and illegal immigration has soared; yet you claim that increasing legal immigration reduces illegal immigration.

@@anniebrown0071 Yes, I would support only allowing to apply asylum in a processing centre outside the UK. That processing centre could be located in Rwanda for example.

8:00 The question is a bizarre one. Is the presenter asking for a cheat sheet of claims to make if you don’t want to be sent to Rwanda? Why would the illegal immigration minister respond to that?
