I really enjoyed visiting Morocco this year but agree with the sentiment of some of the other posters.
As an Arab it sometimes feels that both tourists and the tourism industry sometimes has overhanging elements of the colonial era. We stayed in a few riads and I'm aware that most of these are owned by foreigners. We stayed at one riad and came into contact with the french couple that owned it. We were shocked at how they dealt with their staff (who were all amazing) and the difference with which they treated us (being middle eastern as opposed to other white european guests). It is a real shame because the local Maghribis are some of the most friendly and hospitable people I've ever come across.

No. That's how all 5*+ are trained. It's embedded and carries internationally. Hotel recruiters headhunt and shoulder tap staff with this training. We were paid well and served superior diplomatic clients. In saying that, we preferred the ordinary guest that appreciated us and said thank you. We'd bend backwards for guests that treated themselves and didn't know what they paid for and be grateful for small gestures. We served with our hearts. Rich or complimentary guests expect everything because they paid big and will squeeze every last cent of their money from us and they know how to get it. The hotel takes good care of the staff. There is no glamour. You put on your uniform along with a character carefully crafted by the hotel brand and you stay in it till the uniform comes off. In character we treat our colleagues the respect and dignity we would a guest because we need to trust them while on the floor.
So no, staff are not treated like slaves and although I haven't worked in Morocco, I recognise their standards.

As a Moroccan, I strongly disagree with your first statement. There’s nothing “authentic” about the Moroccan hospitality. From what I’ve seen with my own eyes, Moroccan people only have this over the board hospitality with white foreigners, whom they still associate with money and success based on an old colonial mentality. A poor Moroccan will gladly allow white foreigners in his home and even invite them to spend the night, but that same Moroccan will have a cut-throat like behaviour with his co citizens. So nah my g, there’s nothing authentic in that. They just happen to be poor and are hoping to get some funds by pleasing and smiling hard in white people’s face (that are just as broke as them in reality)

I have visited Morocco several times over the years before and after I have naturalised. I have travelled extensively in the most remote parts of Morocco with Moroccan friends I met in Morocco who decided to show me the REAL MOROCCO.
I was consistently in tears by the generosity and outpouring of love I received in Marrakech, Casa, Rabat, Fez, Agadir and remote parts of Morocco where only the Amazigh languages are spoken. All believe I was a Senegalese. The grandmothers and mothers kept feeding me all the time, inviting me to stay in their humble homes. The grandparents happily chatted me up and were excited to take pictures of me. And I am a pretty regular person.
I stayed in 4/5 Star luxury hotels owned by Moroccans, and I was impressed by how the staff were so happy to welcome me with my then Black African passport. In one hotel, the Moroccan owner personally came to greet me towards the end of my stay and asked his staff to offer me a free evening dinner on his account.
I have had a consistently good experience in Morocco despite minor hiccups here and there in Marrakech medina.
Morocco is genuinely the most hospitable country l have had the pleasure of visiting. I travel extensively for work. So I have a decent benchmark.

would not stay at this hotel at any price. one thing I learned about working for large companies is how not to treat your employees. been to Morocco and the tourist especially the French treat the people as if it is still a colony snapping their fingers in restaurants. the people of Morocco work so hard for little money in the heat of the sun. they just want to make a living and take care of their families. I made sure when I was there I showed my appreciation, I tipped well and I greeted them with the upmost respect and kindness and generosity. love the people and I love their country. will be back soon. how dare she give them candy as a reward, she needs to go and think twice about treating adults as children in school. she needs a reality check.
