I love Ella Fitzgerald, Edith Piaf, Judy Garland, Jessye Norman, Diana Ross, Patti LaBelle and many others. But there is something about Sarah Vauhgns voice that gives me thrills and chills and goosebumps like no other singer can. She is, to me anyway, the greatest ever.
Utterly brilliant. Even Ella for all her greatness, was never quite like this.
It simply just doesn't get any better than this. Pure magic.
My favorite vocalist of all time......the Divine Sassy Sarah Vaughan.
Sarah Vaughan's voice is so silky gorgeous. I think she's the original Satin Doll. Nice to see a voice teacher appreciating her.
Sarah is my favourite of all ! I love her tone, her phrasing, her interpretation of every Jazz Standard is just so incredible!
She is 1,000% Better than Any Singer even when she has a COLD!!! I just ADORE Sarah.. She SOO deserves the Moniker " Divine " .. Right?! It is her Interpretation of the lyric that to me, sets her apart, Not just that her voice is perfection, THAT is just the icing on the cake!! xoxoxoo
I heard Sarah Vaughan in a concert in 1971. One of the songs she sang was George Gershwin's "Summertime; right at the last note at the very end she put down the microphone and hit a high note (must have been a high Bflat) and held it out. I was sitting in the second balcony and that voice filled the entire hall. I'll never forget that experience. If she wanted to, she could have become an operatic soprano. Rest in peace.
I'm 93 and have been listening to Sarah for years. I also have been listing to Billy Eckstine since 1946. Sarah worked with Billy Eckstine when she first started. I always seem to detect some of Billy's style.
I feel like I floating on a cloud when I hear Sarah.
Unique voice!! Not of this world!! Everytime I watch this performance, I truly cry.
Her instrument was one of the greatest ever to come from a human being. Her timbre, range and control plus know what the song meant to her personally made for something truly transcendant.
79 years old am I but still can say OhMY!
If I had to choose one singer to listen to for the rest of my life, I would most naturally stay with Sarah Vaughan. Even though I might have to consider whether Ella might do the trick too, I would once again succumb to Sassy's charms. I must also say I was pleasantly surprised by the vocal coach presenting this video: her beautiful face and expressions, plus her honest enjoyment of and admiration for Sarah have also made my day. And her very voice when explaining some of the sections of the song really blew me away. There's a singer!
I saw Sarah Vaughn late '70s and she had that big range. certainly one of the great jazz standard singers ever
Incomparabile. Nobody came close to Sarah Vaughan's technique, style, phrasing. Nobody did it better. Valerie White Williams explains it so much better than I.
What I see in this live performance is her filling each note all the way, even while changing her facial structure to a smile or a grin. Each note is held to the very end, with impeccable diction and enunciation. Too many jazz singers glossed over that. Hooray Sarah.
Simply divine....She was perfection personified!!
Truly amazing. I can breathe again when Sarah sings. Awesome analysis! Thx!
Every time I hear her, it brings me back to being in my grandmother's kitchen. She would hum Sarah Vaughn's songs while cooking or doing dishes...RIP grandma ❤
