I saw her at the Blue Note at the end of a tour: her voice was gone, she talked through her songs, and was still magical. The house was full of Japanese and Scandinavian tourists speaking during the breaks between tunes while she chatted with friends in the crowd, but I couldn't bear missing a thing she said
And she had a cold during this performance. I want to catch that cold.

I saw her live in Austin Texas in a beautiful setting. She was Divine. Her rendition of "Send In the Clowns" man, it moved the rafters. I felt her low notes vibrate my ribs and fill my heart. I treasure that memory. I was lucky enough to see Ella and Carmen McRae live as well...hence my extensive collection of jazz singer CDs. Andy, this is a treat for the holidays, and I'm truly thankful to you and your channel.

Ms. Vaughn was the diva's Diva. No one could take a song apart and put it back together again on stage like her. Ella was great but Ms. V was Devine!!
"The black Callas", "The Divine One". There have been many attempts to express the genius quality of this voice in words. Ella called her the most "talented" voice, not without ulterior motive. For me, she is the most outstanding female singing voice since sound recording has been invented.

You just feel like you’re seeing a beautiful genius of a soul and her great love and knowledge of music. She sang with so much joy. Yeah!!! Her voice was breathtaking! Even when she speaks the tone is stunning!!! Rich, smooth, skilled tonal notes. God truly blessed her voice. She was a clear master of voice. I can see why this teacher gets giddy. There is no one today that compares. Sarah, Nat Cole, Sam Cook.....truly devine!

But you didn't give enough credit to the trio. Master musicians. AND the pianist's use of tremelos and crescendi to articulate the words/verses. So tasteful they were following her like hawks. Unbelievable. And thanks for the video I liked it a lot.

I had the absolute privilege to see her when I was in college in Pittsburgh. She had the count Basie big band. He barely made to the stage, however once he sat down it was AWESOME! Sarah was incredible. I also saw her in Philly many years later with either a quintet or quartet...results were the same. Love her
