Backbreaker was a fantastic football game with real time physics. I have more fun with this game than any Madden from the past decade. An underrated gem.

Reupload. The original was out for 2 hours but kept crashing 3 minutes in. Not sure why, really strange. So I reuploaded it. Now it should work normally. I have zero clue why it was glitching like that previously
SOFTDRINKTV thought it was me 😆
Lol EA must of published the original video
Ea was trying to delete it

I played backbreaker months ago and it's good. But I already knew how good it was so I just brought it after 3 years. Cause I had to get good reviews about before playing it
It's disappointing to see how harsh critics were on backbreaker when they give madden the same thumbs-up reviews every single year.
The camera ruined it. The devs were nuts for that.
The camera sucks bro. Just admit it.
Exactly because it was 10000x better than Madden

The so called game "journalists" were shitting on the entire game. A lot of gems like that game don’t get sequels because of their worthless opinions.

@@willdeans8128 and you're welcome to your opinion as I am mine.
IMO one of the most realistic simulations of real football. Game was overwhelming and when you got good you felt like a veteran
Backbreaker was way ahead of its time. They just stopped way too early and let the spoiled football fan base who didn’t support the game properly cloud their vision for a follow up.
I think you should do a video on Tecmo Bowl or even Baseball Stars. Neo Geo would be sweet as well!
Have you updated the BB editor since the first release?
@@sportsballgaming2239 Nope.
They were about to put out one more patch but it got stopped for some reason. The game came out a bit too early but it failed because it didn't have the license and players.
Long live the KOB(Kings of backbreaker) clan!!!! BFFB Backbreaker forever forever backbreaker
And teerex3000 aka she Rex is not the king of backbreaker he’s the courtroom jester
Got hyped when i saw this, I used to play the ish out of this game

Don't know if anyone is aware, but you can adjust the camera mid-play. On passing plays press L1 to look at other receivers without having to cycle through them, and when running with the football press focus to look up field. And inputting the "protect the ball" command guarantees catches after a hit.
Backbreaker was dope but it had two integral flaws. First, the camera view was cool in theory, but didn't work in execution. Second, there was an issue where the default 64 team roster shipped with borked player attributes. The players couldn't catch and couldn't block, leading to a game where passing didn't work and you were lucky to gain 3 yards on a run. External roster editing tools fixed this for custom NFL teams, but it never quite fixed the game if you wanted to play with OG teams.
Couldn't block? This was the best blocking in football ever.the blockers actually ran with the runners.its ten years later and the blockers stop at the first down markers.
I averaged like 70 yards rushing and 200 yards passn in a game u just have to gt used to it
I had no problem with the camera angle
@@pp3k3jamail me either they should of had it as a option tho.The learning curve to a Madden player was insane my friends acted like they were trying to fly a plane for the first time when I showed it to them
As much as the public cried for tunnel vision type in sporting games, the masses aren't ready for that. The camera angle in this game was pretty cool imo. It wasn't quite POV style but I thought it was sill fun. Just like after 2k5, the public bitched about that camera angle. I know what you meant about the fail passing in this game but the run was 75% effective and short passing plays would work about 25% so it's not like it was a impossible task to make 50+ yards into a td.
The rag doll features were amazing. I remember as a kid I found this so funny and my sis was crying for whatever reason and I showed her this game and it made her laugh. Never will forget the memories this game brought me
I've played Backbreaker for years now, and I still really love this game! Yeah the passing controls and camera still give me trouble sometimes, and yes it does have too many glitches, but it was a great start that is still fun all these years later. I just wish we could've gotten Backbreaker 2.
Do you still play?
There’s a sequel Backbreaker Vengence on the psn store
I love how it makes you play the position with the camera angles it’s mad realistic.
One of the greatest football games no one has ever heard of. I remember buying it at launch with my buddies bc we were tired of the same madden game year in and year out. I made the entire NFL and we had a blast. Idk that any football game has ever given me the satisfaction that Backbreaker did.
2:11 that was one of the sickest goals/trick shots I've ever seen on Rocket League!
Man, no one was pulling off that kind of play back when I was watching the tournaments in 2016/2017.
I bought it day-1. The biggest criticism on forums was the game was called "Backbreaker," yet it had no injuries. This was a distraction for the game's reception. There was also a catch glitch that might still be in the game; if you hold down the button that protects the ball while passing, your receiver is guaranteed to make the reception and secure the football. Online mode also had cheaters who would use a tool assist program to hack-in characters with over 100 attributes, but this was patched out.
Backbreaker is actually my favourite football game and I still have it on my 360.
Who remembers those scholastic order books you could order stuff out of (from school)??
That’s how I got backbreaker 💯$20
Lmfao the days!!!!!
Your school is lit
All we had was ps2 games
I’m glad you talked about backbreaker being an innovator rather than a competitor bc thts how i feel about the game, especially now tht were in a new generation of football games - maximum football definitely takes a page from the backbreaker playbook bc they worked hard on creating physics based tackles and adding a logo creator similar to backbreaker. and the fact tht you couldn’t replicate tackles in BB did kinda force EA to make FIFA 12 and madden 13 be like tht
Nemo The Zeus big facts bro back breaker was supposed to break the door open for sports games
I'm probably one of the few people who actually played Backbreaker before ever touching a Madden game^^
I wasn't even into football or knew the rules, I just saw the physics based gameplay and was instantly hooked.
And to this day, I never had this much fun in another Football game, I wish we could get a physics based approach in another football game in the coming years!
Madden knows they re screwed if they ever gave up their license
Backbreaker was amazing, just imagine if 505 Games decided continue development
I remember getting this game on day 1. Outside of the camera angles while passing, like what was mentioned. It was such a solid game. Ahead of its time for sure.
That rocket league clip was actually insane! That was a ceiling dash, turned into a flip reset to a triple tap. That would take years of work to practice.
I played the hell out of back breaker I would play just so I could see the rag doll physics.
Thank you for this video man. The real gamers who appreciate video games despite big brand or sponsorship. This game was the truth. The good ole ps3 days.
I was hyped for this game back in 2010. It's not your typical madden game which is why the announcement trailer had me really excited back in the day. I still play it today.
The franchise was truly underrated. Esspecially if you made your own custom teams. Lots of my freshman and sophomore year was used in this game and that mode.
BB was way ahead of its time. I played that game for years and still have in on my 360 just in case I get the itch. Playing defense was amazing, but playing QB and reading the defense or actually looking off safeties to create space for WR routes was just special. Looking left and seeing a safety react and cheat then snapping back to the right to find a receiver in an open zone you created, thats what I want from a football game. I think part 2 to this game would have dethroned 2K as the standard for sim football.
I was very briefly #1 on the leaderboards for the couple weeks I played the game online. I loved this game, most authentic on-the-field football game I ever played in terms of actually feeling like football.
You couldn't see your blind side. You had to have an internal clock to get rid of the ball. QBs would constantly fumble if you just let them take hits. Throwing long passes, you wouldn't know the result until the game told you it was picked or it was caught.
On defense, it felt realistic because you had to respect what the offense could do to you. If you didn't flip and turn and run with a WR he would blow right by you for a TD. If you didn't come up to stop the run you would either get mowed down or the RB would run right by you. You couldnt' cheese like you could in Madden. You could jump routes without being sucked into animations. It felt good to perfectly time a blitz to get a monster hit on the QB or almost take the handoff on a run.
The differences between teams also felt great. If you played a great team, you felt it. If you played against an unstoppable WR, a great Dline, that was represented in the game. Some teams you could clobber every time and some teams you couldn't do anything against.
But everything you did in this game was erwarding. If you threw a pick, it was because someone made a great play or you made a dumb throw. There was no super LB nonsense. There was no ball being sucked through a player's body into a defender. When you did well, you felt it too. You knew when you timed a throw perfectly and you knew when you called the perfect run play.
Backbreaker was great for what it was! Definitely a game that innovative, and different then what many of us ever experienced in a football game.
Just wish they would have explained upon the game and geared it more toward a traditional style of football game!
The defense and running game were the highlights.
The camera angle is what made it realistic
I played the game and I felt it was too different from madden. It took me an entire week to get the hang of it but once I did it was pretty lit 😂
I remember seeing previews of Backbreaker when it first came out, and I couldn't believe how amazing the tackling looked. I was having way too much fun with Madden 10 to give it a fair shot though. I actually have a PS3 somebody gave me for free, so now I'm really tempted to get Backbreaker and All Pro Football 2K8
I use to love this game after the great house update I was #1 on the leaderboards on ps3 I swear I don’t understand how we still have animation based football games in this day in age
No you weren't I was. blitzfist and I owned the PS3 leaderboards and finished #1 pratically every month for 2 years. Nice try though.

Im a backbreaker Stan. This game was so much fun to make custom teams and then take those teams through an entire season and win the championship. You don't know happiness until you see your "Hong Kong Dongs" win a championship.

I used to play this on my phone! I remember how fun it was, and I've been trying to remember the title for a while now so thanks.
Still to this day my favorite football game. I remember it was a demo on a xbox 360 in kmart when I was in middle school.
I remember playing this game and scoring over like 500 points on the hardest difficulty with 15 minute quarters and the game had some glitches you couldn’t get out of
Can we get an NFL Blitz retrospective soon?
Tackling Alley reminds me of the madden 20 app running challenge a little bit.
They need to remaster this game I loved backbreaker
I remember playing both this and the other game that came out too which if I remember correctly was called vengeance. Fun times with both of these games
I own this game on my 360 and I still play this game on a regular basis. It sucks that it never took of, I would love this on a xbox 1 or ps4.
The best thing is that they would never update and the servers are still up to this day but nobody wants to play online
This is literally the best football game ever made. That camera angle is why I played this and not madden.
I bought this game years ago but haven't played it yet.
I gotta get around to it now.....great video. 👍
Found out about this game in 2017. Got it on ebay. I pop it in to try and get to level 100 on tackle alley at least once any time my 360 is hooked up. Great game. I love ragdoll stuff and this game totally gets me.

My best friend is actually in this game as a defensive tackle as he was an original backer for this game. Hes a super cool dude.
The camera angle was the killer of this game. If they just had it as a option an not the norm it could have been the killer of madden.
Yep perfect case of developers being too stubborn and shortsighted to realize what their customers wanted
I love this game 2007-2019
NFL Xtreme is my personal favorite football game of all it it's for (PLAYSTATION 1) But I loved how your shoes would catch fire to give you boost and you could do a backflip over an opponent who is trying to tackle you.
I never played BackBreaker but it does seem fun but very difficult
Bruh this shit looks amazing!!! I have to play. Never heard of it. But I love the camera. Keeping the view in front of the player when he runs across field, & the QB system is nice!
I remember being part of their community and giving feedback during development in 2007. I still have a video of a run up the middle on my profile I uploaded in 2010. Good ol days
I only was able to play this at a Target demo station because the only console I owned from that generation was a Wii. But I remember this game looking crazy fun.
I miss this game so much! The best parts of the game is far greater than anything madden has done in recent memory.
The best uniform customization options ever 💯💯
If only Madden was up to par, unfortunately, I keep playing cuz IT'S ALL I HAVE. Love your videos, really helps me to open my eyes and see what I missed out on.
I loved it on the 360, of the few football games I've played, this is my favorite
I thought the camera system was very rewarding once you became adept at it. I think my positive experience of it is based on loving games that were challenging because of their control scheme (Armored Core 2 and 3, Trespasser) or camera style (Resident Evil 1 and 0).
This game was amazing
I remember that there was actually a demo for it on the Xbox 369 store and I remember playing it and was shocked as to how good the physics were
2011, Blockbuster shut down in my area. Backbreaker was on the shelf for 10$ CAD. Probably one of the only gaming purchases that I'll remember forever because this game was so damn good. I am a create-a-____ junkie, and I love football. This truly was the best of both worlds. I swear Madden would fix 90% of it's issues if they switched to the euphoria engine
Could you try a NCAA rebuild that starts with low overalls and turn Patreons into recruits? That would be pretty fun to watch because your commentary is AMAZING.
I remember playing this on my “phone” all the time years ago
I not a football fan but I had so much fun playing this game.
Finally, another SDTV video!
Very underrated game. I still play this all the time on Xbox 360. Disappointing we never saw a Backbreaker 2 as I think this was a great foundation to build on. Much more innovative than anything "madden" has put out in the last 15 years, and even still.
This was one of my first games I had played on my psn account on my boy's ps3 back in 2010 before i even had my own ps3
I played it when it came out. Was a lot of fun
I always knew backbreaker was a gem loved it
Dude I literally played this for hours when I was like 7 it was so awesome with the hits
This is a intresting video. A unpopular game that is listed by mainstream gaming critics as mediocre and a flop but is received as a hidden gem and ahead of it time by the fan. To be honest that is something that I have never seen or heard of from any other type of video game especially a game that isn't seen as good or was never recognized. It was good to hear about this history and why you think it's a good football game.
Backbreaker Vengence Was also really fun. It was tackle alley on steroids
We need these tackling animations for the XFL game to destroy Madden
Real fans know this a reupload
I could had swore i watched this before.
Now i get to watch it a second time!
Nostalgic and informative videos as always Can you do a review of NFL Fever 2004 one day
The tackling looks more realistic then madden 21 which is crazy with how old this game is. Imagine if madden would use this.
Holy shit I've played this game. This video just unlocked a memory I didn't know existed
There’s a Backbreaker spin off game on Mobile called Fanatical Football, it took the basic juking and running system and pretty much ported it.
Loved Backbreaker back in the day.
nice. fun times on the 360 with this game. loved it...
I played the SHIT out of this game back in the day. I miss it.
STANDING UP CLAPPING!!!!! UNCORE!!!!!! I once said before backbreaker ever came out if a company makes a game with real tackles and physic's I would play it forever and yes I play it over all games and it still amazes me each time I play itwith King Javo's editor the results are endless. I love the camera because learning how too read plays on the fly is way better then Madden where the cpu constantly gives and takes in BB no cpu intervening and the ratings mean something on every play not only when the A.I. says so. GREAT VIDEO!!!
Backbreaker's camera allows you to see what a real qb sees. People say they want realistic, but do they really? Everytime something is hard or challenging they complain about it. I'm confused. 2019 - people don't want to learn anything, but want everything.
@@addyourplayer Couldn't said it any better, so true
I wish they try their luck with NHL develope their own outside EA and 2k. NHL could be a spring board to showcase how great of a game could be produced.
