I expected this to be pretty boring watching an evolution of such primitive games but it was surprisingly interesting to see what they were able to do with their limitations. Plus it was cool to see the origins of basically all of Mr. Game & Watch's smash moves.
Not just the software, but the hardware, the foils to color the screens was a major leap forward, Ive documented each on my channel.

they'd probably have to exclude some of the licensed properties like Popeye and Mickey Mouse. Besides, the Mickey Mouse one is basically a clone of egg anyhow, so there's no real need to include both.

6 years ago... I found a purple Mickey Mouse Panorama Game and Watch at a yard sale. Complete in near mint box for $2. It paid for 2 months of my house rent from an Ebay sale. Love these games. Only find 1 or 2 a year in the wild now. Cleveland.

My first: Oil Panic
Second: Donkey Kong
Third: Donkey Kong Jr. Table/Top
Fourth: Popeye Table/Top and my Favorite!
Fifth: Donkey Kong Circus Table/Top
Still own them and all are still functional with the exception of Oil Panic that sadly died last year. Thanks to the Nintendo 3DS Game & Watch Collection Vol 1, I have Oil Panic reborn again. Awesome video thanks for sharing!

The games, as shown in the advert, you can play when you're injured severely.
The beginning of this video is basically just a Mr Game and Watch Smash move set origin, but then the Game and Watch games get more interesting, including Mickey Mouse and Snoopy Dog

The artstyle they're using for game and watch are actually perfect. It reminds me of Osamu Tezuka, where his anime from the early 60s hade somewhat similar choppy animation.

i remember using Mr. Game & Watch for fun in Smash Brawl on 2012, on 2019 he became my main and then i checked his game origins and i don't regret it, still fun to play them casually even after almost 42 years of the first being released lol

It’s like having a guy named “Mr. 70s” who randomly turns into Marvin Gaye then into a Vietnam veteran, then into Gerald Ford and so on and so forth.
Even that G&W is old it still looks fun

Well, we didn't have many Game & Watches in the Middle East, mostly we had Tiger Handhelds that were clearly inferior. The G&W looks like it manages to take the minimalist hardware and make something cool out of it.

Basically. Nintendo didn't want to stop selling the games, so they tweaked the graphics a bit and repackaged them.
@@shiftfire4511 They were released around the same time. I believe Egg and DK Circus exist because Nintendo had Disney licenses in some territories and not others. They were also never released in Japan.

That’s because Mr. Game & Watch’s moveset is based on them. For a smash bros fighter, he’s actually one of the characters with a bunch of move sets that were based on their game. That’s way he’s so unique and one of the reasons why I main him

The funny thing is that the original game and watches were pretty much in 4K to begin with, since they were drawn images instead of pixel-based sprites
I don't know what's more remarkable: the fact that Nintendo were able to sell so many variants of the same "catch and/or miss as many objects as you can before time runs out" game over the span of a decade, or the fact that many people spent so much time and effort lovingly recreating their striking visuals in crystal-clear HD so that future people can marvel at how simplistic and primitive their gameplay was.
So Disney and Nintendo were cooperate so long! Prove: Mickey Mouse's G&W

Between the Disney Nintendo playing cards and now this, Nintendo and Disney have seriously had a suspicious level of connection throughout the years. Then you can even get into stuff like the Epic Mickey Wii exclusivity too, gotta wonder if it’s all just coincidence.

This is what the tiger electronics needed to be like: just like game and watch.
For some reason, Donkey Kong II (Multi Screen series) is mislabeled as Donkey Kong Jr. (Table Top).
At least all the others are labeled properly.

Glad to see someone caught that. It wasn't even a Table Top Game & Watch, but a Multi Screen. The smaller version of Donkey Kong Jr. was a Panorama Screen. (Same game though, unlike a few of the other Table Top versions, like Mario's Cement Factory, which had much less detailed graphics in the New Wide Screen version.)
I'm genuinely impressed people found a way to emulate Game & Watch games.

Unironically one of the best looking gaming videos just because the graphics are so simple that youtube compression doesn't turn everything to static
'Climber' looks like the most fun adventure game out of all of those as it has the most 'game' in its game, and that Zelda game looks a little better than the Simon's Quest Tiger Electronic that was out in America at the time the Zelda game lets you move 3 or 4 spaces to either side so at least enemy objects don't suddenly appear next to your face with no reaction time like they did in Simon's Quest; you actually have some reaction time in the Zelda Game & Watch. Oh and the Donkey Kong and Donkey Kong JR. games also have the most amount of actual game in them though not sure if it equals out to as much as Climber had.
The rest of those games are just... strange and lacking. Like those 'Mario Brothers' games? Just bizarre!
I always wished they would have made a multiplayer Bomberman LCD or vacuum flourescent light game as I think that could have been the most fun possible with this limited but portable game technology. Sad thing is they DID make a Bomberman keychain lcd game but they removed the ability to collect power ups so you're just blowing up walls and monsters but there's no reward for exploration or blowing stuff up, so they completely killed the potential fun that was the core game mechanic and game loop of Bomberman.
I wish *I* could find a way to learn how to make & program one of these style games and make a 4 player co-op bomberman one with monsters.

My favorites here are every mario and donkey kong games, my favorite is donkey kong jr. Panorama, its just colorful.
