      I was amazed when I saw your DK hacks. What you were able to accomplish is just amazing. Glad to see folks like you give this old relic some love, especially since arcade games barely get any significant hacks when compared to other retro systems. I'm currently building a mini bartop with tate support, and now I have some new games to try, so thanks!

      And the uploader forgot to mention about the Donkey Kong Remix killscreen also, where Donkey Kong is in a "deranged" mode. Very hard to prevail, unlike the original DK killscreen. And about the Donkey Kong Deranged Edition also,where difficulty is way harder after the 5th level,also created by Sock Master. The reason why Sock Master chose not to create the ROMs of Donkey Kong Remix (regular version), Donkey Kong Deranged Edition, Donkey Kong Junior Rremix and even Donkey Kong Junior Trainer is because the Roms in MAME are, can and will be a liablilty for his sales, and he is STILL actively selling the "High Score Save Kits" daughter boards that are designed only for the Real Hardware.

    Growing up my stepdad fixed arcade games for a living in fact that's how my mom and him reconnected (They met in high school) my mom and her younger sisters were at the bar when my aunt recognized him and pointed him out I was 5yrs old and my sister was 4yrs old. Growing up we lived every kids fantasy growing up around arcade games we had uprights, cocktail sizes, pinballs he also knew how to recover pool tables and repair foosball games. We had arcade games everywhere in the house, in the backyard (nobody jacked them when we were at home or not), my parents bedroom, the deck. When my parents bought a new arcade game there were times my dad didn't want me, my younger sister my 2 brothers (followed by my third brother 3wks before my sweet 16) allowed to play them so I was 7yrs old when I picked the lock to the upright game shocking my parents my stepdad didn't like who taught me this ability. When it came to Donkey Kong I remember several cheats on completion to that particular level that I discovered that shocked my parents because they had no idea about. When nes came out you're damn right my parents bought it along with other classics. My oldest brother did the impossible: growing up he watched my stepdad fix arcade games and followed in his shoes so he bought an empty hallowed out upright and he downloaded EVERY arcade game, every nes, every super nes, every Sega genesis, and every game boy games ever created my stepdad told my brother it.wouldn't last and it would crash and to even consider every download and install it into a computer tower was risky. And it did crash 4x my brother is very tenacious and unrelenting and he proved my dad wrong my brother was an electronic genius he was 8yrs old when he successfully fixed his first arcade game my stepdad bought a broken arcade game from a liquidation auction my dad tried working on it for 4mths but to no avail my brother was asked to give it a shot 15min later he had it up and running. The game he fixed: donkey kong 1978

    @johneygd Před 2 lety

    “If it wasn’t for the ground work that this game laid,who knows what gaming would,ve be today”
    I don’t think that donkeykong was perse groundbreaking and changed the game’s industry for good, no,because there was pacman,sheriff,space invaders,space panic,frogger,pole position,galaga,radar scope among many others,
    Who says that if donkeykong and mario didn’t existed that the whole game’s industry would,ve been different now? That’s bullshit,because nintendo would still have zelda,metroid,punch out,ice climbers among many others,they still would,ve come with a cartride based game console since they already had the idea back in 1980, also we must not forget that space panic was the first platformer and donkeykong formed the evolution of it,
    BTW,radar scope did became a success in japan,BUT if radar scope did also became a success in the us,then nintendo would,ve shipped more units of it and/or they would,ve eventually come with clu clu land and devil world once they saw pac man,while in the meantime namco did came with pac land and nintendo would took inspiration from it (whether to make a popeye or a mario platformer)but even if nintendo did got the rights for popeye in the first place,those rights would,ve eventually expire and so nintendo did had to come with mario & donkeykong as a replacement either way,so they would,ve come making their appearence anyway.

    • @AshleyTMDW
      @AshleyTMDW Před rokem +1

      Donkey Kong was a major financial success for Nintendo both in terms of cost cutting via reusing unused stock of arcade machines and by how popular it became. That is what allowed them to work on developing their console, as just because you have an idea it doesn't mean you can afford to work on that idea.
      Without Donkey Kong, you also have no Mario. Mario was in 18 games before Super Mario Bros 1 according to the channel you commented on, so thats immediately 18 games changed with some outright obliterated. Super Mario Bros took from many prior releases to make one great game, such as the turtles and coins from Mario Bros and the springs from DK.
      Without Mario, Nintendo is now Mascotless, which means SEGA doesn't need to make Sonic and so they probably don't, Alex Kidd remains SEGAs big name, that also impacts the console wars significantly since their entire marketing was how fast Sonic was compared to Mario. No real console mascots means third party mascots either have higher prominence or don't exist at all either. Sega also doesn't feel the need to compete in the technology aspect so that's no SEGA CD which means no Night Trap, without which there's still going to be ratings for video games but Night Trap was cited as a big reason for it at the time.
      And let's talk about Sony now, because here's where things get really interesting. Sony would probably be making consoles with Nintendo in this timeline, meaning instead of the 64 you get the Nintendo Playstation, this is a documented thing that would've happened had Nintendo not then gone to Phillips afterwards. The deal was that Nintendo would have control over stuff made for the cartridge port and Sony got control of the disc games, they share the profits and share the losses. Mario 64 isn't made so 3D platformers would probably all use tank controls for at least five years until someone figures out a better control scheme.

      @@AshleyTMDW mario was origibalky called jumpman (probably a derivation of pac man) but hey likely they didn’t called him ‘walkman’ or otherwise they would,ve got sony walking after their asses,hahaaa🤣
      It was that for the us they decided to call him mario because of the boss from from a nintendo rented wearhouse at that time was also called mario with his last name segal,BUT i bet that even if they kept the name jumpman,then it still wouldn’t had any negative impact of any game from it,then we would,ve call all those mario games ‘super jumpman bros,super jumpman world,super jumpman sunshine etc,,,

    I would never pay money for a rom hack in physical chips, so I wouldn't recommend that one to people. They're profiting off of Nintendo's works under their logic, the logic that piracy is theft completely goes out the window when you are, in your own logic, a thief. He should definitely release a ROM for free seeing as he's already being a thief :)

      I can't agree at all. They are selling an accessory that can add on to something that already exists. We do this in the physical world all the time. Is a custom motor specifically designed for my car profiting off the original car manufacturer? Are third party iPhone cases profiting off of Apple.
      As long as their actual product doesn't use any of Nintendo's own code, and is just designed to add on to it, they aren't stealing anything.
      It is, however, is kinda silly. People who want to play the ROM aren't going to go out and buy the original arcade game and a conversion kit instead. You're not going to lose any money providing a rom patch instead. And it's not like people aren't going to make a ROM of it and distribute it for free anyway.
      But it isn't stealing, or profiting off of Nintendo's work. Heck, there were tons of third party conversion kits back in the day.
