  • Have you ever wondered how old Toothless in How to Train Your Dragon is? How long do you think he would live? How long do dragons in general in this franchise live? With what we know about animals, here is a video to answer this question and theory format

He's also less suited for getting down in the rough of the battle, in close melee, like the other diurnal dragons shown in the movies (deadly nadders, gronkles, monstrous nightmares, etc)
The other dragons have horns, long sharp teeth & claws, close-range offensive and defensive abilities like shooting spikes from their tail and coating themselves in flame.
Toothless, comparatively... doesn't have much. Instead he has powerful, long-ranged explosive plasma balls that take awhile to charge up, and swift flight.
He's specialized to keep his distance from his enemies and destroy larger structures (or larger dragons, as shown at the end of both movies).
You can also see him blasting through rock to save Hiccup from crashing during gliding scenes, blowing up defensive towers on Berk, and bursting through solid ice as he goes titan.

People often forget sponges are animals”-and some of them very long-lived animals at that. Estimates of sponge longevity vary quite a bit, but are often in the thousands of years. One study in the journal Aging Research Reviews notes a deep-sea sponge from the species Monorhaphis chuni lived to be 11,000 years old.

the lobster can still live forever though. usually lobster's die from predators or they cannot get out of their shell that continues to grow due to how much energy it takes for them to do it, if you kept a lobster though as a pet and made sure to help it along when it needed to shed it's old shell theoretically you could make it live forever as long as you have other people to continue helping the lobster when you eventually pass away

My predictions are not entirely scientific, but I think that they are pretty accurate. I'm sure by now everyone knows about the nubs on toothless' chin, and what I've noticed is that in even the movies and the shows, toothless does not get these nubs until he is 20 years old. We know that Valka somehow uses the nubs to identify Toothless' age, and my guess is that the length of the nubs can show how old a Night Fury is. It sort of seems that Valka just eyeballs the length of the nubs and makes an approximate guess of his age from what she knows about Night Fury biology, which she may have found out if she found some of Grimmel's notes about Night Furies. Anyway, I think that since Toothless just got his chin nubs at age 20, there was some certain event in his lifespan that triggered it, like maybe Toothless' full physical and mental maturity. For humans, this usually occurs at age 25, but for Night Furies, this occurs at age 20. If we were to assume that the lifespan of the Night Fury over their age of maturity is proportional to humans' lifespan over age of maturity, then we would just use simple math to find out the lifespan of a Night Fury. By cross multiplying 20, the age of maturity in Night Furies, and 79, the average lifespan in humans, and then dividing that product by 25, the age of maturiy for humans, you get an answer of 63.2. So pretty much, my guess is Night Furies live about 63 years.
Edit: I posted this before watching the video, so if Alteori says the same thing, sorry for wasting your time.

too much talking and everyone's saying the same thing. Valka said hes around Hiccup's age which. in that movie, was 20. Meaning him and Toothless are around the same age. as for lifespan, it seems that some dragons can live for hundreds of years depending on their purpose and type. some only live for a short amount of time depending on how they died, where and when, etc. In the 3rd movie, Toothless seemed to have matured and aged a little bit but not as much as Hiccup (who looks to be around 35-40 years old). From how Hiccup's mother was talking, it seems as though he will live the same or close amount of lifespan as Hiccup/humans. :). Also, it's just a movie lol.

Since toothless is the alpha that means all the dragons followed him and grimmor. Anyways they get free and toothless gets hit with a knockout dart and the light fury goes to save him while grimmor and hiccup frrefal the light fury comes down and saves hiccup but cut into a little after that hiccup let's him go with the light fury and all the dragons and it fast forwards a long time after and hiccup goes to the edge of the entrance if the hidden world and tootles thinks he is a treat but then realized it's him. In the flash back we see in the second movie shows no night fury attacks. We know that the only night fury the bekians knew of was toothless, because if not, then why didnt bork record more then just "the unholy offspring of lightning and death itself"? Cleary, this observation was made on the fly was made because of how badly toothless was fucking shit up.

Not to rain on your video because I absolutely love it and this channel and totally think if the dragons of HTTYD were animals in the real world scientifically you would be absolutely correct but if you go to the books Hiccup made a record of the lifespans of the dragons of Berk and no spoilers but a word of warning it is super super sad.

What I want to know is if grimmel hunted every night fury, what made toothless so different that he could escape?? Like i mean, every night fury!!!! How did he get away and no others?!?!?! And some people my say oh he was left as an egg but that doesnt make sense, the death grippers would have smelt the egg out and destroyed it. Also grimmel wouldnt have killed all the night furies and the same time! So he would have had to find the ones that flew away, so what stopped him from finding toothless. I know I keep going on and on but even if he didnt know one got away surely traitor Johann would have told storys of a night fury attacking berk and it would of spread cause hes a story teller!!! I just cant think of a way he could have got away, logically!!...
Unless it was a po from kung fu panda situation?😬

    • @Oxurus
      @Oxurus Před 5 lety +5

Grimmel started hunting them at about 15, he looks to be in his 40's or 50's by the time of the hidden world. Toothless probably wasn't the last of his kind when he got shot down, but they were rare. He got locked down in a tiny archipelago for 6 years after that, so Grimmel was probably busy tracking the final ones down in those final years, leaving the stranded toothless alive long enough to be the last survivor.

hey i have a question; (spoilers for httyd3 btw,)
    so,,
the light furies are considered to be females of night furies, grimmel showing evidence, as he said things such as, "A female?" etc. Therefore, they should have colours that correspond with their gender. But, at the end of httyd3, we see the light fury and toothless's babies, which,,,, arent a solid colour. Theyre either white with black parts or black with white spots.
So,,,, are they female or male?
i tried solving this by myself, by saying," maybe their gender is determined by temperature, and when they were eggs, their temperature wasnt consistent; thus the inconsistent colour (black with white spots, and white with black spots). "
Though, im still not satisfied with this solution, (if we follow my guess that temperature determines their gender,) their organs would follow the temperature, and its unlikely the temperature would be inconsistent.
So,,, why are the babies not one solid colour? id love to hear your take on this! thanks for reading this far holy shit
