Maybe the writers got confused with their own decisions.
Actually, only the movies and Gift of the Night fury are considered canon, since Dean Dublois directed them.
Idk, I just remember reading somewhere that only those pieces were canon, I wasn't 100% sure. As much as I love all the tv series, I personally only consider riders and defenders canon, and maybe a bit of rtte, since it’s just way too inconsistent. =(

It makes complete sense. They had barely met the nightlights (I watched it) and toothless. Furthermore, if u watch toothless’s eyes then u will see he was kind of in dragon hunt mode for like protection but when he realised he was fine.

I hate how Hiccup’s selfless love for Toothless is treated as clingy in the third movie. Their relationship wasn't portrayed in this way in the previous movies. Deblois lost his mind. Since when Toothless was a captive? What "freedom"? He's Hiccup's equal and he CHOSE to stay with him, because he loves him =_= All because plot, they need to separate forever and other nonsense =_=

or it's been years later and isn't the snoggletog right after they moved to new berk. it's probably been a couple snoggletogs and hiccup decided to take his kids to meet toothless. like it starts before the epilogue, during the epilogue and after.

When I first saw this I thought that the babies had traveled to berk somehow on their own since they already know how to fly. We do get a picture of Toothless and the light fury drawing some human thing for their kids in the sand. Maybe they get curious and decide to travel to berk themselves without their parents knowledge. Then after dodging the sights of the humans at berk, the kids eventually spot the baby night lights and that picture with hiccup and astrid is them fondly looking at their kids playing with the night lights. After watching this heart touching scene, hiccup and astrid decide to take their kids to the hidden world and escort the night lights back. Before reaching the hidden world the night lights fly away from the boat and into the mists towards the hidden world is where they reunite with their parents. Toothless and the light fury noticing that something is off go to the entrance to observe what might be out in the waters. Out from the mists comes the boat and toothless flies over to meet the intruders while the light fury keeps their kids behind for safety. After recognizing each other, toothless and the light fury probably take the dragons to celebrate snoggle tog at berk or that meeting ends there after both families have fun together with their reunion being each other's snoggle tog gift. My theory since I heard the news of this was that the night lights traveled to berk alone due to their parents drawing a depiction of humans for them in the sand. Now hearing that homecoming comes before the epilogue scene in the 3rd movie, this is my new theory. X3
If Homecoming really does take place before the epilogue, this theory might actually make sense! I'll keep this one in mind

Having had the same doubts, I can confirm after seeing the short they work around it well enough and nothing was “ruined”
And worst case scenario, just pretend the short isn't canon if it really messing things up for you that badly.

I don't believe How to Train Your Dragon ruined I think that they wanted to mix it up a bit cuz toothless is a wild dragon and they wanted to set free.

@Gabriella Peterson Also Toothless was in his "protect the family and hidden world/ home" mode. Until the second he realized it was Hiccup. Then it was " You're Here!! I'm So happy to see you" reaction. :) When Zephyr met Toothless in New Berk, I think he smelled Hiccup on her clothes, and she ran up and said "Hey Dad." By that time toothless knew it was Hiccup in the suit. SO, Toothless was friendly to Zephyr. Kind of like he was thinking " those are My children and Oh, you are His!" Now they have another thing in common. Hiccup and Toothless each have a spunky & smart Daughter. :)
@Gabriella Peterson Also Toothless was curious about Zephyr in the Homecoming short, and she had called Hiccup "Dad". Toothless HAD to know what that meant after living with Hiccup and Stoick for so long, and Zephyr also had to have Hiccups scent on her, as they live in the same home.
Toothless seemed to figure out that Zephyr was Hiccups child, and gave her a Dragon purr, before being called away to rejoin his own family. But with the meeting on the ship, Toothless arrived all protective of his territory and family, Until he got close enough to sniff Hiccup. Then he was overjoyed to see Hiccup and interested to meet the children. Would have been nice if Toothless had called his family over for a meet and greet as well. :) But, the reason everyone on the ship was nervous at least, was because Toothless didn't recognize Hiccup with a beard, so was wary and defensive at first.
it's not a mistake, this "homecoming" takes place right before the ending part of HTTYD 3. At the end of homecoming, you can hear them say "Maybe it's our turn to visit them". And so they visit them. With follows with continuity.
Right, the point here is not the continuity but the internal logic of the universe - which is clearly thrown out of the window: Tootless can supposedly remember Hiccup for 9.5 years and then promptly forgets him within a few months.

@@s0tird Homecoming (where Toothless remembers Hiccup) is set a few months before the epilogue (where Toothless doesn't remember Hiccup). The epilogue is, of course, still set 10 years after the dragons left New Berk.
As curious as I am about this short and as much as I love all things HTTYD. I don’t think this short is necessary. The franchise should have ended with Hidden World!

They can easily say that it is cannon by saying that when they started hating on dragons because of finding those books he took them to find Toothless to prove them wrong. Toothless didnt get to interact with him when he rescued his kids and is now happy he got given the chance. So it works out

"They" (toothless& his family) only visited because the thriplets went to that place in secret without telling their parents (nighfury and lightfury) ....Thats why in the leaked images and footage, its clear to see that at the beginning of the short film toothless was telling his children about humans and so as hiccup telling the children in new berk that dragons existed. Then theres another leaked video that gived me vibes that the thriplets secretly went to new berk. .

Spoilers, toothless didn't actually 'see' hiccup only heard him and of course the kids would be terrified because they know about the stories of dragons rippin people apart and only the female child barely saw him
MAYBE, just maybe, the holiday makes Hiccup realize they need the dragons...hence the epilogue. It doesn't have to involve the dragons fully. Maybe they talk about tales with Hiccup and Toothless? Either way, this doesn't ruin a movie unless you let it ruin the movie.

It could start BEFORE the epilogue. And cover the events OF the epilogue in the movie, and continue AFTER the epilogue.

If that happens, homecoming is after hidden world and Rescue riders does not exist in canon.
I swear the time and effort you put into these videos is astounding because its easier not to add those small details and the video would still be good but you take it a step further and make it great !

Yall, the next sentence in the movie release says “and 10 years after the end of “How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World” so that “emotional epilogue” is referencing the dragon’s departure and not when they meet up again. The whole thing will be 10 years after the end of the last movie. Stop worrying y’all.
Or they meet before the “ending” once on Christmas then during the ending it’s a few years later and toothless doesn’t remember him very well since it’s been years since they visited

My only theory about this is it's only Toothless's kids who meet Hiccup, Astrid, his family and his people and spend Christmas with them thus could explain why Toothless didn't recognize Hiccup right away. Just my theory

So in my opinion Hiccup's kids are terrified because it's their first time meeting an adult dragon and in my honest opinion Hiccup isn't terrified of Toothless just hesitant. You also forget that Toothless's little dragons are still be their mother by the hidden world entrance during the film scene. let's ignore the fact that it is before that epilogue and pretend it is after that scene ok?
NO, it DOES make sense if you think about it!
Let's picture it like this:
- Starts with the babies in the Hidden World, playing and goofing around, being generally annoying to theirs parents and other dragons around;
- They are young and growing, they are finally capable of flight, they want to explore. They want to go beyond the limits of their big cave, but Toothless and the Light Fury are protective don't let them.
- One night, for some reason, they manage to sneak away, maybe while their parents are asleep. Maybe because they caught the scent of humans in the wind or something and can't resist to explore.
- They fly to New Berk after a scent (or they find a drifting boat that ends there, or sneak on a merchant boat nearby on the way to New Berk, whatever)
- They reach New Berk, and start to explore, fascinated by all the human-made stuff that they have never seen. Cute scenes of them fighting dragon themed-statues, being enchanted by torches and hiding scared from any passing human ensues;
- Cuts to Hiccup and Astrid, tucking their kids to bed for the night. It's Snogeltog night, so Hiccup is reminiscing about when they used to celebrate it with dragons and how their kids will never get to meet them;
- Just as Hiccup is missing Toothless the most, someone rushes in alarmed that there are many claims of dragons sightings in the village. They comment that that's impossible, they haven't seen dragons in 10 years, that it can't be true. Hiccup can't hold a little hopeful smile;
- Hiccup coordinates people to look around for the "dragons", including himself and Astrid, just to shut everyone up ("probably just wild boars, nothing to worry"). More sightings by Fishlegs and others, funny chase scenes ensue, but no one gets a clear view;
- By a convenient chance, Hiccup and Astrid are the only ones that find the dragons with a clear unobstructed view. Easily recognize them as the babies from T and NF, Hiccup does his magic, manages to approach them without scaring them off, classic sticks out his hand on their noses, happiness all around ("you are your father's children!");
- Suddenly, the babies get alarmed. The sun is rising, and they know they have to get back before their parents find out. They lift off, and Hiccup starts following them desperately until the coastline. He watches them fly away, saddened but knowing he did the right thing in letting them go;
- Astrid arrives and asks him "so what are you gonna do about it?". She points at a small boat, ready to go with the two kids already in it, still half asleep and waking up. "You want to go after them, don't you?". "I can't! we shouldn't!". "Yeah, but what do you want?"
- They follow the babies through the sea until reaching Hidden World. When the babies arrive, their parents are still either asleep or worried sick, stressed and relieved when they find their babies.
- From this point, the final scene from HTTYD3 rolls out again. At the end, Hiccup invites Toothless to join them for Snogltog every year if he'd like to, leading to a big Dragon-human hug, and cutting to next year's Snogltog with vikings celebrating meeting their dragons again all over New Berk.
The end.
So this way it makes sense in various ways and solves some questions:
- H and A meet the baby dragons in N. Berk, but not T or the NF. Hence almost-feral Toothless scene;
- The kids are meeting dragons for the first time because all the kerfuflle with the babies happened at night, while they were asleep, like regular kids should (notice how all the images of the baby dragons in snow are at night). Only when they reach the edge of the New World do they finally meet them.
- Why did H and A only visit the dragons now, 10 years after? Because only when the babies finally grew their flight wings they could follow them to find the Hidden World again.
- This is only the first Snogltog back with dragons. Or just meeting the dragons again was the perfect snogltog present for Hiccup. Nothing said that it had to happen regularly before the final scene of HTTYD3.
Sorry for the long post, that's my theory, and I don't think it really can only happen by ruining HTTYD3. Now I'll just wait to see if I was close.

Maybe Nightlights escaped on their own and only Hickup saw them, which motivated him to seek for Toothless? :P

HTTYD 3 Ending: Astrid and Hiccup got married, the Dragons went away to the hidden word.
HTTYD Homecoming: What happened between the timeframe of Astrid and Hiccup’s Marriage (and had kids) with no dragons since Dragons already went to the Hidden world already and the Epilogue.
HTTYD 3 “AFTER CREDITS” Toothless was just CAREFUL on meeting another human, even if it is Hiccup, Dragons (or any animals) will be cautious, and of course, any humans will be scared if any WILD Dragons (or animals) is in front of them.
So technically, the HTTYD Homecoming took place AFTER the HTTYD 3 ending (which is when Hiccup and Astrid’s Marriage) and BEFORE the epilogue which we saw on the AFTER CREDITS.
Wha.......WHY? This whole Christmas episode is taking place before the ending for the third scene!!!!! I’m hoping this is some mistake that it’s taking place before the end of three there’s no way that Dreamworks would possibly do that at all.
This can go 4 ways
1: Say it’s not canon and call it a day.
2: The person who made the website meant after HTTYD 3
3: I get nachos and cheese
4 I get better food than 3

its honestly so powerful how they decide to protect the dragons. This entire series was Hiccup and crew trying to keep dragons safe and out of wrong hands, and they'd always be found. And they would be continue to be in danger as long as they're domesticated. So the fact that they choose to let the dragons be in nature is just.. damn i love this series

I've watched HTTYD Homecoming a few weeks back, SPOILER: Toothless never saw Hiccups bearded face. This maybe explains why Toothless didn't recognize Hiccup in the last scene of The Hidden World Movie.

Well with things happening here and what I can hear so far about httyd homecoming is great and yeah I’m just glad that toothless did not hurt hiccup or his family at all but with truth I want to make another part of this story of my own choices to make this story still go on even if hiccup or toothless is not there well I still did watch rescue riders and hey it’s a show that’s pointed to preschoolers and for mine it’s more farther in the future at the point of either the Middle Ages or the now of the modern ages of from your point which would be better but to skip it is that’s even if it doesn’t make sense of this story but mine and I bet everyone here would like to have the same dream of making an amazing story like the trilogy of httyd but what I would hope for is that not just mine but every stories will apart with mine and for the record I won’t be a dumbass and take the credit for it but just give the equal creditor everyone but still as I’m hyped for it I hope you are too wait till the third of December! ;)

I think the hidden world sending all the dragons away kinda ruined the franchise. Toothless not really recognizing Hiccup is completely in line with Homecoming because he didn’t see his face. The kids being scared of Toothless is also fine because they’re kids and in Homecoming they didn’t really see him either.

Trust me I thought the same thing but when I watched it, the short does line up with the epilogue. I’m not gonna spoil but just wait for the short to come out because it does line up/make sense.

Alteory, if you actually watched how to train your dragon: home coming all the way through to the end you would of seen that toothless never got to see Hiccup's face and Hiccup's daughter was the only one who got to see toothless and she only saw toothless for probably 2 seconds so that's probably why she was so scared.
homecoming is probably going to be a bridge between homecoming and httyd 3 ending

hun, the franchise was ruined the minute httyd3 came out. also the kid not being scared of a nightlight that is the size of a dog compared to toothless who is the size of 2 tigers stacked on top of each other is a little understandable

So, the Homecoming Christmas film takes place after Hidden world and not before. I'm okay with that, but if they meant to say it takes place before Hidden world then everything gets confused. Hopefully it's after the Hidden world.

Actually i don't know if they meant to put that in there in "before the epilogue" of the ending of the movie. Maybe it was a typo... I really don't know.
Maybe the HTTYD Homecoming would only be about the nightlights sneaking off from their parents and into new berk? What if toothless and the lightfury didn't go to the christmass event.
I hate to say this but you’re right AND you’re wrong.... Unfortunately it still wouldn’t make sense because of hiccup’s daughter had a moment of hating dragons...
But granted: she was still young and we can say she did have a fun but short time with dragons until she uncovered the ugly side (the dragon book). She was even LESS scared when she met toothless at the stage than on the boat.
Regardless, this is conflicting and controversial af and I rather ignore most of homecoming.
Don't know if someone has said this yet, but if ya'll paid attention to the leaks and promos, it only seems like the night lights get close to them cause they sneak out of the hidden world to look around and Toothless goes back to get them and they never interact with Hiccup and his kids, just get really close. I'm assuming similar to the end of Race to the Edge where the Bewilderbeast makes a cameo but doesn't reveal himself fully until the 2nd movie. they arent going to meet and spend time together. The Homecoming film will act almost like a "recap" sort of thing (i'm assuming) just to get the audience acquainted with Hiccup and Astrid's kids since we had very little interaction with them and who they are in the 3rd movie, now we will learn who they are in the Homecoming special. and maybe a little about the night lights too, since the special will focus on the kids and the night lights
How stoick voice actor is in the list is becuz when they r trying to decide who is who in the play they were looking for stoick actor and they put the voice on fishleg xd also it's a "before" Becuz on the ending of the httyd homecoming hiccup saw toothless and Astrid said:
