I wouldn’t consider Def Leppard a hair metal band. They didn’t even have that much long hair, lol. More a rock band.

Not a bad song from Def Leppard, they played the shit out of this one at our High School dances back in the 80's

This is a Heavy Metal infused with Power Pop song, not Hair.
I guess you can consider it early Glam as lots of bands stole Pyromania’s sound in the mid to late 80’s, but the only real Glam (Hair) member was Phil. They never wore makeup (except Phil in Girl) didn’t come from LA (where hair originated) and have obnoxiously long puffy hair. It wasn’t until Hysteria could you consider them remotely close.

Why did you refer to it as "hair metal"?

Big Def Leppard fan here. Marilyn Monroe was the inspiration for this song. Joe Elliott had a Marilyn Monroe poster covering a hole in the wall of his apartment and that inspired the words for this song about a woman every man wanted but no one could have because she was dead.
Def Leppard is still playing to sold out arenas and stadiums. They are considered one of the best live bands around. They just finished a massive tour of the US and Canada in 2022 and recently finished a tour of South America. The band is still four of the same five guys. Unfortunately, Steve Clark on the left of your screen died at the age of 30 in 1991 from alcohol poisoning. These guys are not just a nostalgia act. They released a new album in 2022. Despite the hair, Def Leppard hated being called hair metal band. They have always seen themselves as a rock band with melodic hooks and tight harmonies.

You talked about them not being able to afford a mic for Phil. You should know this was the first video by DL that put them on the hit list on MTV. The guys probably didn't have a big budget at this time.

I wish you picked Pour Some Sugar On Me instead of this one. The Hysteria album ruled 1987/1988! And their hair was a lot longer then.

To reiterate.... Def Leppard isnt "Hair Metal". They're not "Ratt" or "Poison"... you never saw em wearing makeup and teasing their hair or playing on the Sunset Strip. Long hair doesnt equal "hair metal".. otherwise Slayer would be Hair Metal.
