I have a Performance model S. But deep down I was rooting for
the RX7. That will always be a legend 😊❤
Beating a stock electric car is literally the best thing that ever happened to that race team (you could tell by the audible cheers).
Having their best ET ever might have had something to do with it also. Their goal was 8.90, yet they had never broken out of the 9's until that run next to us: 8.87!
If you only knew how much work and time it was to get the car to do what it does. Has nothing to do with what car is in the next lane. We're proud to be a part of his program and proud of the PB. Thanks for the kind words. Hope to see you soon!
@@heathabolic9500 👍 Right on! Thanks for the run and congratulations on that achievement! 😃
I live up here near Niagara Falls in Canada and saw my first Plaid this past Sunday ...ever. He drove it like Grandma does going to church.
👍 Our Plaid only leaves the garage to go to the dragstrip. (We’ve got a 10-second Tesla as our daily driver)
Great night, that RX-7 was cool and kudo's to the driver for the chat. Loved the 68 Camaro's. Still got a soft spot for them.
👍Glad you enjoyed it! We have a soft spot for first gen Camaros as well, and recently found an old photo of our 1969 Rally Sport 327 😃
Great video, awesome racing!!! As always. Thank you Andrew!!
You needed the E-roy edition of the plaid to beat that rx-7 Andrew. 😁👍🏻
Come on elon we need the plaid+ model S now. The competition has changed a LOT since mid 2021.
👍Yep! And yet we did better against the eRoy when we raced it last month (finish margins of 0.07, 0.00, and 0.10), whereas the RX-7 beat us by 0.21 👍
You packed a lot of solid runs into that night! That RX7 was really fast!
You are the foot brake " MASTER "
Not always, but thanks, and next week’s video is much better with back-to-back 0.01 and 0.00 in the Plaid. (I only cut it that close when it’s warranted by a very fast car in the next lane)
Nice you found some fast cars!
👍 Some weeks are better than others, but the cooler weather brings out some good ones like the twin-turbo Lambo and tuned GT-R we raced last weekend. Videos coming soon!
Prefer Rotaries? Here’s a quick fire-spitting one we raced last year! czcams.com/video/BGKCulCHXlk/video.htmlsi=njos2Rkk57dydCsY
I think the amazing thing is that you’re running these times with much need for maintenance and repair.
About 1800 Tesla Timeslips now with no failures or broken parts. Just wiper blades and one set of brake pads, but not even tires yet!
@@TeslaPlaidChannel I should stop driving mine like a pussy. LOL
I do wonder what kind of wear/tear is going on with your CF sleeved motors though@@TeslaPlaidChannel
@@kcw9313 Hasn’t slowed down, so what’s the concern exactly?
@@TeslaPlaidChannelyou’re only at 15k miles. There is no free lunch.
fun runs...that RX, though...wow. Impressive.
I'm not a fan of swapping the rotary for the LS1 but looks like he did it right with the right turbo as well.
that rx7 is crazy. stock bottom end too.
RX7 is rowing the gears. Gotta be one of the first times I have seen a manual smash his Plaid. Autos are wayyyyy faster.
👍For sure, total props to the manual drag racers, that was us long ago in a 5.0L 5spd NOS Foxbody
Great runs! That RX7 is fast!
But for only 1 run....
@@larryc16161 run is all it takes , for the win.
nice race with the RX7
This fire spitting rotary last year was fun too: czcams.com/video/BGKCulCHXlk/video.htmlsi=njos2Rkk57dydCsY
I love fd rx-7's and ls engines as well. Just not together. Put a built 20 b in the car, and i would be a happy camper. But damn that car was quick, and clean.
We like them both, but some rotaries out there have been brutally loud, like this quick one we raced: czcams.com/video/BGKCulCHXlk/video.htmlsi=njos2Rkk57dydCsY
Beautiful RX7
The RX7 would be a second faster without those slow gear changes.
Andrew, great consistent driving! Wondering if you can do rear tires burnout on Track mode with 100% power going to the back.
👍 Thanks! Unfortunately not, as Teslas still try to maintain traction. The only way to "turn off" traction control is in "Drift Mode", but it requires the steering wheel to be at an angle. We aren't going to point our Plaid toward the jersey wall to do that (300-400 times per year). Just not worth the risk. Especially when we know how to pick up enough glue on our Pirellis to get solid sixty-foot times (1.4x, including a 1.43 best in perfect conditions), which is just as good as our Nittos which reduce trap speed with high rolling resistance and other disadvantages.
You just went against the White Charisma...
Hey Andrew, on your best pass how much quicker and faster are you in comparison to a stock Plaid?
Our best-ever full weight pass was 9.26, but usually ran bests of 9.28-9.29 under *perfect conditions* .
After removing the rear seats and some trim 16 months ago (about 160 pounds), we ran a best of 9.15. Last week we ran 9.17 with 89% SOC and “8 minutes remaining until Peak Performance Ready”
So a solid tenth faster
That was fun! Amazing how such a simple idea of putting an LS engine into the RX-7 produced such amazing results! I don't know how expensive that engine swap was, but it seemed like it was a much cheaper decision than many other cars racing with far greater results. I'm just assuming/guessing here. I'm not a drag racer. Any how, I'm glad I didn't have to hear the obnoxious noise from a rotary engine.
👍Agree!
Wondering if the driver of the 496 Camaro didn’t have his competition license? That might explain why he let off before the 1/8th. To avoid going under 6.39?
Based on his ET so close to 6.50, we think he was testing to hit that popular index 👍
If you're only going to run the 1/8th on a 1/4 mile track, why bring the parachute? 🤣
Tesla would be fun if there was some form of aftermarket where you can add another motor, upgrade the electric motors, tune the software on the electric motors. Great daily car but not a car for a car hobbyist yet.
Yet…we remember the 1980s when the first ECU-controlled Camaros and Mustangs prevented the tuning we did for decades. The Aftermarket stepped up, as they surely will again (we’ve talked with one big company already about a future product: Holley)
@@TeslaPlaidChannel I hope they do because I’m honestly thinking of a Plaid since prices have dropped.
good night. . .A
Another great Plaid racing video! Sure would like to see a race with a Lucid Saphire, but don't think that will happen! I make note that a Sweedish team came up with a 300+ pound car with a 300+ HP ELECTRIC MOTOR and just did a world record 0-60 in .95 seconds! Video on CZcams! Lightweight girl driver 😀
👍We’d love to see any of those at our local dragstrips! Yet we haven’t even seen a Lucid of any type yet (nor a Nevera of course). A couple of Rivians have shown up though
Can't race a 250k sapphire because it's not a production car only a prototype for Saudi money. The 4680 models with structural battery pack will be out next year to make the saudi sapphire obsolete ⚡️🇺🇸
Swiss, not Swedish. Very impressive car!
@@jamesengland7461 The difference?
@@royrauch9775 500 miles, different country etc!
Take your miles range estimate divide by your current percentage you will get your range. For a Plaid running 19’ I would love to know your battery range. My bet you are in the 370’s.
Just checked it: Shows 188 miles at 50%, so that would be 376. But do we really know the whole algorithm? Maybe temperature or past habits are included?
As for Performance, the car ran a 9.16 last night at 89%. (Our best ever run in over 700 passes was 9.15.) Seems solid to me 👍
@@TeslaPlaidChannel this new refresh pack is really holding up.
I have a 2022 plaid 24,000 miles and at 60% 227 = 3.78 ..
@@scottw595 But does it run 9.20s consistently like ours before the weight removal? 🤔
@@TeslaPlaidChannel i am sure it would. All Plaids (Teslas pretty much run the same with the same tire wheel setup on the same track the same day). I do think the blue is the fastest then red, followed by white then black and gray.
Piss this stick shift off, look at the delays when changing gears
Love your channel I watch and repost. I understand its gutted. The Tesla would sound much better without the rattling. I guess you know whats causing it but it must be hard to fix. It sounds like a few specific rattle spots.
I don't mean to be picky or anything. I love watching. I love Tesla. I want one bad.
I just wonder what is the main culprit of that rattle. Maybe its springs and A arms and it is what it is or something.
I just want to dig in with some rubber pads, electric tape and zip ties or something.
It’s caused by the removal of all the rear trim around the hatchback. It doesn’t bother me; it’s not a daily driver and only leaves the garage to go to the dragstrip…
You double bulb everyone!!!!!!!
Only when appropriate…
BuT a TeSlA rUnS oUt oF bAtTerY aFteR 2 rOuNdS.
Yep! We've run six 9.20s in a row many times now. And even when we ran with 40% (which is about 20 runs from full) we still ran 9.60s. And then of course we recently raced a Dodge Demon at 30% charge just to see what would happen; We gapped it by 5 car lengths!
No After 2 runs the Plaid uses 5- 6% of the battery ⚡️🇺🇸
But just remember that stock gas car even a stock supercar can’t be a plaid only highly modified car with over 100 grand worth of equipment and it could be $100,000 plus stock electric car that’s nothing to be proud of😂😂😂
im gonna guess that rx7 cost under 30k altogether
How many cars stock with 1100 hp 🤔 that's tesla selling point plus the electric cars scam
