The Plaid is weight-reduced and running on the stock Pirelli P Zeros on 19” wheels. (Backseats and most rear material removed. Both front seats are still IN PLACE, along with all door panels, airbags, mirrors, 20 stereo speakers and subwoofer remain intact.)

Heck of a 60-foot by the Charger. That was a RACE. Great win off of the tree! The spread went from his .13 advantage at 60ft, to .9-ish at the 330ft, to .3 at 1000ft, to .002 at the finish. The Plaid pulled on him but his 60-foot time was impressive. Fun!
The numbers look much closer than the race was.
Yup dont usually see them Charger or Challenger frontends lift up like that. Thats why he was he repeated it like 4 times 😅

@@lemongavine @yingyang188; It does not require any 'modern' technology; just simple setting indicator lights as "PT" or "Pro" on/off or dual lights "PT or Pro" - "ST - Sport"; best each with a different color too; perhaps orange/blue
Thre is a difference in the progression of the amber to green lights; so there is an indication during the tree countdown; however certainly an additional setting indicator would be helpful too.
"COUNTDOWN LIGHTS
Round amber floodlights that count down to the green go light. There are two types of countdowns, or starts. The pro start flashes all three lights simultaneously, with a .400 second difference between the amber and green lights. This is called a Pro or .400 Tree. The bracket start flashes one light at a time, a .500 second difference between the last amber and the green light. This is known as a .500 or Sportsman Tree."
Also it seems that there would be some established standard, by now, actually several decades ago, from the different drag racing associations; especially as it became more popular and accessible for the public use; thus certainly with both settings as in these Test N Tune sessions.
It is certainly very simple for any, every track to add a "tree" timing indicator; the operator has a switch to select for Pro or Sport Tree timing. Perhaps there is already an indicator, since certainly the timing system has which setting is selected. Thus, just to wire a light indicator for the drivers to see; best on the 'tree' top.
In addition, there is certainly no need for any paper printed slips, unless requested; We see Andrew frequently show the times via a photo of his phone display.
All professional racing use directly connected timing system measurements, along within the broadcasting.
All of the other events should also use these, including Drag & Drive and other novice, public, and similar type events.
For instance, these Test N Tune events which pay small amounts for best ET, fastest vehicle, etc for the night, certainly have the measurements, data, driver, car information via their system without any paper printed slips.

That was very close with the Charger! It shows that a good reaction time can still win a race, with all other factors being roughly equal.

Quick 392! 60 foots really well; running a 9.2 at that low mph shows how well he gets off the line. Wish we could launch these Plaids like that, they’d be running 8’s
Love that he keeps the badges on; new hood to hide the blower and it’ll definitely catch some people off guard!

Love the races.. How many miles do you currently have on your Plaid ?
Little over 18K miles and 800 dragstrip runs, yet still on the original 19” tires! (OEM Pirellis)
@@TeslaPlaidChannel …. Sweet.. I had my 19” Pirelli’s changed at 33k miles. Currently have 40k miles on my 2021 plaid (built Aug ‘21) with no issues so far..
Great racing! Why are the 19" tires faster than the 21"?
The OEM 19”s are faster than the 21”s due to 36 pounds less rotating mass, plus more sidewall to help traction. Less rolling resistance too, and slightly more aerodynamic.

@@pawssspawss For road course racing (as we featured from Sebring recently), better brakes are a must, whether Aftermarket or Track Pack. If that was my sport, I’d go with the Track Pack and keep the full warranty on everything. (Tesla Service doesn’t mind that we’ve gutted it.)
@@pawssspawss But for 1/4 mile Drag Racing, the Track Pack has only slowed cars down (due to unsprung weight, regardless of whether the optional 20”s are used). We won’t add it.

I'm curious, have you seen the Plaid lose any acceleration as it gains more mileage? I keep seeing guys online talking about at 10k-20k their Plaid is noticeably slower. I don't seem to see yours show that in the quarter.
We’ve heard those stories too, but ours is still running the same times in the same conditions. We recently ran a 9.16 pass (Sept), and the best ever was 9.15. So, no slowdown for ours after more than 800 dragstrip passes and 18K miles. (Still on the original OEM tires even)
We’ve seen at least one guy who “slowed down” after doing some pretty abusive things to the battery. He charged his Plaid to 100%, locked it in an enclosed trailer in July and towed it across the state of Florida. That’s probably the worst thing someone can do. The battery can’t cool itself down. And Tesla advises never to charge to 100% unless driving right away. Don’t put it in an enclosed space over 100 degrees for a day or more…
And in our 2019 Model S Performance (running mid-10s), the 1000th pass was faster than all previous 999 dragstrip runs 👍

Why the surprise with pro tree all the time. Dont they tell u.
The staging lanes determine the tree. Lanes 1-6 are ALWAYS supposed to be Sportsman only. Lanes 7-8 are Pro Tree only.
So what’s a driver to do when you line up from lane 6 and then they surprise you with a Pro Tree instead? (Or vice versa)

Ok Andrew the "accidental" pro trees keeps happening to you. This has to be the 5-8th time I can remember. No one else was complaining about it happening to them. You would have heard about it in the queue.

We’ve received horsepower updates on our other Teslas through software (not on Plaid yet). And we improved our ETs by over a tenth via weight reduction (previous bests were high 9.20s, then ran 9.15 at 152MPH).
@@TeslaPlaidChannel another tenth could be shaved by closing the rearvwheels improving drag co efficient, weight reduction will improve alot more if car will be drag strip only

You know Andrew, it would PISS ME OFF as Musk just lowered the Plaids price to $89,990.00!!!!! You would think Elon would make it optional for guys like you to get the Plaid+ settings! We know that on a 4 wheel dyno the Plaid had over 1100HP a d that there is somewhere between 10-15% more power available in your current car! With Lucid advertising everywhere that their Saphire has 1234HP and will do a quarter in 8.85 sec. @ 156MPH, that Elon would counter that even only for BRAGGING RIGHTS! Of course a Saphire price STARTS at $250,000.00 but ADVERTISING ALONE the point that the Plaid is back on top should be more than worth it! Perhaps he really is waiting on the $250K ROADSTER to take the reins of the fastest electric car and make the Nevera second fastest at $2.4 million! Can't wait! Real good video again...to bad Hellcats as we knew them are extinct for next year! BTW, used 2021 Plaids are for sale at UNDER $70,000.00!!!!
The Plaid was still a deal in 2021, so no complaints on the price drop. It allows more people to get one, and that’s a good thing! 👍
There’s clearly more power, and it’s just a matter of time until they offer a boost. Even 50HP would “one up” the Dodge Demon 170 😃 (which is clearly already slower than the Plaid in real life)
@@TeslaPlaidChannel A used one at $70K is really unbelievable for the performance you get from a used one! Where does anyone buy a low 9 second car for that money? Are the new Plaids using the 4680 batteries? Is more kw power available with those? Still don't understand why a race car is not offered.
@@royrauch9775My buddy Blake Fuller has proven that it doesn’t take much to turn a Plaid into a full fledged race car. When some companies charge more for that, I’m okay that Tesla lets buyers do it themselves. They’ve never hesitated to service that car (free under warranty) even with so much of it stripped out.

Nope. We love GNs too but that didn’t happen. The last time we lined up with a GN was March 30th of 2022, which was about four hundred races ago. The GN sat on the light and we crossed the finish line 2.15 seconds ahead of it:
