      Yes, overall a very nice effort from MILVIZ once again. As Panzer mentions, the plan is to release a “V2” of the aircraft with a whole host of extra features (including steam gauges). That’s the good news; the “bad news” is that V2 will be more expensive. V1 owners will get the V2 upgrade for free, so if you’re sure you’d want to pick the aircraft up once it has steam gauges, it would be cheaper to purchase it ahead of time. @@IntotheBlueSimulations I'm giving it a pass. I know it's a trivial thing, and I'm paranoid and maybe unreasonable, but I don't like the fact that it installs a "WASM Helper" service on the machine that must be kept running while playing which phones home constantly to verify the user legitimately owns it. I don't like that Milviz doesn't mention that anywhere on the product sale page, but only in the manual. It's not even mentioned on the "MSFS setup instructions" page. No other addon I've bought has that level of intrusiveness. I'm fine with JustFlight's system of having you log in once with its tool before the product installs. This is a step too far.

    Why is the rudder and ground handling so poor in almost every plane in MSFS 2020 this has been a problem for so long gosh.

    • @WhiteHawk77
      @WhiteHawk77 Před 2 lety +2

      Because Asobo not only decided not to fix the poor ground physics in FSX, but made it worse, especially with the takeoff and landing roll because they decided to let wind effect the plane at many times less speed than FSX did which just makes those sections of a flight completely awful. This was actually brought up in ones of their Q&A videos but I doubt they will fix it any time soon, just one of many disappointing design decisions from Asobo.

      @@IntotheBlueSimulations yeah, one of the three guys that do the Q&A videos answered the question about the weathervaning on the ground and he mentioned they had reduced the plane being effected from 90 meters a second in FSX down to either 10 or 20, combine that with the poor grip of the tyres which he also mentioned and the lack of weight feeling and this is the main problem with the ground physics. So they know the problem, but like many things they haven’t done anything about it.

    Smashing review yet again, many thanks! At first glance it’s never going to set the world on fire in the looks department but given a little time I reckon it’ll be a real grower! Looks like Milviz have a lot planned for version 2 as well, including a panel with ‘steam’ gauges (my preference). It’s great that they are already looking ahead, they are obviously committed to their products and therefore their customers. You’re spot on about the ‘feel’ of Milviz aircraft, they certainly have that ‘Je ne sais quoi’ which elevates them somewhat above the pack. Thanks again.

    Of course, flying this on the hand-carved mountain strips of New Guinea (whether the Indonesian or the PNG end of the big island) is exactly why I wanted this plane in the game, due to having watched "The Worst Place to be a Pilot". While the MSFS landing challenge uses the C208B, Bugalala and it's MANY less-famous-but-often-more-challenging neighbors seem, in real life, to be the domain of PC-6s instead. Interesting aeroplane. I saw a documentary series a year or two ago about the pilots flying these aircraft in Indonesia and the almost impossible airstrips they operated into/out of. Absolutely amazing.
    It's a shame that the 3rd party developers are being held back so much by Asobo. This autopilot fault has been around since day 1 in one form or another and personally, I think it's time to put the eye candy development on hold for a bit and sort some of the core features out. The rudder sensitivity issue is another one that needs serious attention. All that aside, this aeroplane looks like a lot of fun and I notice that those buying now will get the additional 2nd release features for free which could be a good saving.
    Good to see another new aeroplane release and a new video from you. Keep well and fly high !! Erm, perhaps I should rephrase that ...

      I know exactly the documentary series, it was brilliant! “Worst Place to be a Pilot”, or something like that I seem to recall. That’s one of the only documentaries of this nature where you could tell, some of what those guys got up to was genuinely scary / dangerous (usually these sorts of documentaries have a lot of shaky camera angles and shouting from the commentator haha). Really enjoyed that docu-series.
      It is a real shame that the sim is still exhibiting some fundamental issues over one year later. I very much enjoy MSFS and it has certainly come into its own, but I completely agree that it’s time for Asobo to sit down and hash out some fixes to some of the basics. It seems developers regularly use the Asobo framework (I don’t know whether they chose to, or have to), so that really needs to be a solid foundation. Unfortunately there doesn’t seem to be any rush to fix such issues though. . .
      Glad you enjoyed the video once again, I’ll fly well within the bounds of the law, no worries haha : P

      I always start out trying to paint the product in the best possible light I can (putting it in its natural operating environment, trying to keep the flight realistic but somewhat entertaining etc). I hope that doesn’t lean in towards “false advertising”, perhaps making the product appear more enjoyable than it might otherwise be; but creating these sorts of scenarios is really the part I enjoy of video-making and I think / hope I’m honest enough as I go, that it still gives a fair and thorough representation of the product.
      Sadly I’m not getting any kickbacks from the devs just yet for my efforts - but £20 to sweeten up the review wouldn’t go amiss! : P
      Cheers! Not sure if you picked up the Porter or not, but if you did, I hope you’re enjoying it. All the best : )

    Great review video and loved the 'moody' music in the middle :-). I have to say I knew nothing of this aircraft. Seems an absolute dream for Air Hauler etc as you rightly said. The price is also excellent (around £27 incl taxes) direct from Milviz, which I have to say is very reasonable. The only thing that is holding me back is it's speed, which is quite low but as you say that then gives you the ability to enjoy the scenery which is a very good point. I'm about 99.9% in for buying this and your review helped me with that decision, as always :-). Don't have time with work to fly in the next week or so but have bookmarked it to buy when I have a wee bit time to learn it and enjoy some flying with it in Air Hauler :-). The speed is indeed an issue, it also makes the plane not very economical, but, in the FSEconomy world, it holds 11 pax (they probably have to stand to fit in, but as long as they pay for their tickets, I don't mind), so I expect it to be a moneymaker nonetheless. The Aerosoft Twotter will probably take over that role in my "operation" when it is released, though -- it has similar STOL capabilities, but almost twice the capacity and it can go a tad faster.

    I've noticed on other G1000 aircraft that when the autopilot holds a heading offset from the heading bug, you can fix it by pressing D on the keyboard. It's as though the sim applies gyro drift to the heading bug, but not to the heading indicator. It might be worth a try.

      Ok, thanks Jay! I’ll certainly give that a go if I encounter any such issue in the future. As you say, it sounds like perhaps the default autopilot is flying the heading “card” as opposed to the heading bug (on the G1000, you wouldn’t be expecting the heading to drift over time anyway - so still quite a few gremlins in the system).
      I think it’s fair to say that it was a more significant issue with the Porters autopilot; it would essentially lose control of the aircraft on some occasions. I’ve seen similar on other default aircraft from time to time, but autopilot behaviour has varied significantly from update to update.

      I dunno. If you intend to fly in New Guinea (either end but especially the PNG end), you want the glass for the synthetic vision. That island is nothing but clouds full of rocks that rise into oxygen altitudes, and you're going to tiny, irregularly shaped, hand-carved dirt strips draped haphazardly on precipitous slopes in very narrow, bottomless valleys. Yet all approaches are visual because there's no electricity to speak of on the ground. However, you often need the synthetic vision just to get into the correct valley while avoiding the "cumulo granitus" all around.

      It is a shame about the DRM issue. I understand that devs don’t want their work being abused, but it’s frustrating that it’s often legitimate customers that have to “pay the price”. Personally whilst I don’t like it, it’s not a deal-breaker for me (sadly it seems to be becoming more and more common) but I can see why people wouldn’t be keen to install such thing. I gather the Marketplace version will not have the same DRM, but from what I’ve seen on here, MILVIZ appear to have upset some customers with the whole situation.

Just imagine every 3rd party dev used technology like that… are we supposed to constantly deinstall and reinstall the products as we use them, or should we just accept dozens of background agents permanently using resources and doing… something?

    Commented and bought the milviz pc-6 a couple of weeks ago :) The plane is really nice, BUT it has had 1 major thing that has mostly ruined my experience, which seems like a glitch to me since this doesnt happen on every single flight but almost all of them. This is copied from my reddit post about this issue of mine:
    "I've had this issue where the milviz pc-6 throttle becomes totally unresponsive after taxiing for a short while after a cold start. No matter if my throttle lever is at 0% or 100%, nothing happens (except the throttle moves in game, it just doesnt do anything). Only reverse affects the engine, no problem there. The throttle lever always works for a short while when taxiing, but then all of a sudden it doesnt do anything. (now it doesnt even work at all after start up, just completely unresponsive)".
    Even after following different start up procedures it happens. At first it didn't happen at all, the it started to occur randomly maybe 1 in 5 flights and now its 99% of my flights with the pc-6 which makes it, well... unplayable. Any idea on what the heck is going on or if Im doing something absolutely wrong? Thanks

      Hi Lagu,
      Apologies for the very slow reply - I’ve been rather busy. Sorry to hear you’re having issues with the Porter!
      Have you managed to get things sorted now? Is the issue only affecting your flights in the Porter? As Software issues don’t tend to be intermittent, I’m wondering whether it’s not a hardware issue - maybe a conflicting keybind etc causing the issue? A recent sim update did also break quite a few addons in terms of throttle input; essentially, instead of assigning your throttle to the more generic “Throttle Axis”, you will now need to assign it to “Throttle Axis 1” on some addons. Other than that, it’s a bit tricky to figure out what might be causing your problem. Do you have any more details regarding how the issue tends to unfold?
      Hopefully we can get it fixed for you (if you haven’t managed to do so already)! All the best : )

    Great video. I've just finished working through a problem with my G1000 in this plane (turned out the PMS GTN 750 doewsn't play nicely with the default G1000) so I'm getting familiar with the checklist, yours is the only review of the ones that come out in the last few hours that properly follows it, well done :)

      Thanks very much!
      That’s a shame about the PMS GTN 750 causing issues. With any luck, perhaps when the aircraft is updated with the Working Title G1000, that will fix up any such issues. I try and operate the aircraft as accurately as I can (given the time I have to learn it) in most of my videos; 1) I enjoy simming In such a fashion, 2) I figure it’s the most effective way of seeing what works / what doesn’t in a review. Every channel needs its USP I guess - and I’ve tried to make authenticity mine.
      Glad you enjoyed the video and found running through the checks etc useful. Thanks very much for watching and all the best! : )

      this video was a godsend ! I was trying to make my G1000 power up in reversionary mode the way the lead dev told me in the support forum it should, but every video review I watched - and me - either powered up avionics bus 1 without popping out the bus tie so both screens came on, or just turned both buses on before starting the engine. I was starting to think it wasn't actually possible until I saw you do it :)
      I'm not sure what the issues are with the NXi G1000 - I know it scales the gauges differently to the default G1000 so some gauges aren't there e.g. the fuel gauge drops off the bottom of the screen and apparently there are some other things, but I'm not sure what and I'm actually quite happy not having fuel gauges if it means I don't have to keep moving the 750 in and out of the community folder :)
      And there's already a mod on flightsim.to to show the GTN750 on the MFD - I wonder if the fuel display works :-p

      Haven’t tried the WT mod myself yet (I keep meaning to). It would be nice if each individual aircraft had its own separate “copy” of the core files it uses, instead of all these different aircraft / mods interfering with one another. That would save compatibility from breaking all the time and having to constantly switch out files in the community folder as you say. I’m sure there’s some sort of property rights issue that prevents it from being done though. . .

    @Vograx Před 2 lety +1

    Great review. Honest and to the point as always!
    Couple things I noticed with PC-6. Rudder pedals go opposite way compared to input (although rudder itself goes the correct way). The autopilot has an issue with vertical speed where it sometimes throws you into a nose dive / stall climb. I found best way was to set target altitude then turn AP off, then back on again, which lets you set VS correctly.
    Overall though I really enjoy the PC-6. Rugged workhorse with lots of nice immersive details (like visually clicking and removing covers, seeing cargo increase visually as you increase the amount of cargo you carry and so forth). Plus it's a huge bonus that, if you purchased the current version, you get a free upgrade for Stage 2 which includes steam-gauge only version as well as floats and tundra tire configurations. Very excited about that!
    PS. During startup you put propeller pitch fully forward because it was 'well over 10 degrees', but prop should be in feather at +10 or above, and in full forward if the temperature is BELOW +10 :) Anyways, just an observation.

      @IntotheBlueSimulations  Před 2 lety +1

      Is that so (re the rudder pedals)? I'm surprised I missed that. . . If that's the case, then that's interesting; I had the same issue with the Aeroplane Heaven Spit and someone else mentioned they had the same problem with another aircraft. I wonder whether there is currently an issue in the sim (I wouldn't think it's like MILVIZ, to make such a fundamental mistake).
      For me, the autopilot has been a bit of a non-starter. I haven't really tried engaging it after my previous attempts, so haven't had to suffer any of it's issues as a result haha.
      Completely agree, overall the PC-6 is great fun and a really nice offering from MILVIZ. Looking forward to V2 as well (particularly for the steam gauges).

      Hi Christopher,
      MILVIZ are indeed planning to update the aircraft to “V2”; with floats, steam gauges, tundra tyres etc. If you are considering picking it up, it’s perhaps worth a mention that V2 of the Porter will cost more than V1, however owners of V1 will get the V2 upgrade for free. In short, if you are planning to pick the aircraft up at some point, it would be cheaper to do so now - not trying to sell you anything, but just so you know (in case you continue to be allured haha).

      I'm not all that familiar with the PC-6, but it looks like there is an alternate stab trim switch, located just to the right of the engine controls; I would take that to mean that the trim switch on the stick, is the primary means of trimming. The trim indications are located top-right, just above the left Garmin unit.

      It’s definitely the sim MegaPeedee. Almost every addon aircraft (even the CRJ for example) uses the Asobo framework for its autopilot. That’s unfortunate, as frankly the default autopilot simply isn’t very good. I’ve had very hit and miss results between updates, but this was one of the worst examples I’ve seen of it in action so far - usually the basic modes have worked okay-ish for me previously. I haven’t flown much with the autopilot of late though, so I’m not sure whether whether it’s generally broken at the moment, or doesn’t play nicely with the Porter in particular. If you weren’t happy with the performance before, I don’t think you’ll be blown away with the sim as it stands; of course it’s hard to say though, with so many variations in hardware etc. This video may give you a little more idea as to the the improvements;

      It wasn’t actually VR that I was using in this video, but TrackIR. It’s basically a head-mounted device, that tracks one’s head movements and then translates it into the sim. A neat (if a bit pricey) little decide overall.
      Hope that helps. All the best! : )

      Hi Jvu,
      You’re correct, the manual is a bit scant on detail in this regard. To be fair to MILVIZ, the real-world pilot operating handbook for the PC-6 is pretty vague as well (bizarrely):

    I'll wait for the PC6 from FSG. It is a bit a rush out from MilViz to be the first.
    To avoid overspeeding during "deep Beta dive" MilViz for example uses spoilers as a trick - the flight model itself is not adapted for this maneuvre. FSG will have their own flightmodel for that. Same for the PT6 - own model developed, independet from the turbologic from Asobo.
    From start you will have steam gauges (I prefer them over glass), integration of GTN750 and amphibious version with working water rudders.
    Otherwise - nice video. Thanks

      Good question Jenda, I’m afraid I’m not sure on that one myself haha. MILVIZ’s manual doesn’t seem to suggest any particular cruise power setting and even the real-world PC-6 POH doesn’t recommend anything, so far as I can tell. It’s a bit of a mystery. . .

  • @Vigulfr
    @Vigulfr Před 2 lety

    I'm really on the fence about this one. On the one hand it's MilViz and from your vid it looks really impressive but on the other hand there's another PC-6 in development and from the forum thread on that where the dev has shown off a ton of in development screenshots and videos it looks like it could be really good as well and I don't really want to fork out for two PC-6s... I'm also not a fan at all of G1000 avionics, I vastly prefer some old fashioned gauges. I know MilViz have said they'll add a variant with gauges in stage 2 of the release but then I'm left wondering why they decided to go for this 2 stage release schedule. Smells a lot to me like they want to get it out before the FlightSimGames version is released and so this release version is a little bit on the early access side which is a practice I'm not too keen on. Also the DRM is quite off-putting to me. From what I've read it installs the DRM as a Windows Service that runs constantly in the background and I think that's way too over the top. Buuut it also really does look quite damned good. So yeah, what's a boy to do? lol.
    Anyway my bitching aside your review was really good as always. Loved the landing, reminds me of some of those insane bush strips in Papua New Guinea. That top hump was really quite something! The Porter really is quite an ugly duckling, the older version with the regular piston engine does look a bit nicer but I guess that PT-6 long nose gives it some character. Well it's a nose only a mother could love I guess. Thanks again and cheers!

    • @Vigulfr
      @Vigulfr Před 2 lety

      Well I ended up buying it. Bought that Aerosoft Antarctica Rothera station scenery pack and really wanted something appropriate for it. God knows how long it'll take Aerosoft to release their Twotter and as the British Antarctic Survey used to fly PC6s anyway I decided to bite the bullet and get it. I'm really quite enjoying it, it's a really nice plane. Still a bit miffed about the DRM situation though. Not minding the G1000 displays as much as I thought I would but I can't wait for the steam gauge patch! I'm finding it a bit tricky to get into the beta prop thingy. Sometimes it does it and other times I just end up over-speeding. Oh well practice makes perfect. Anyway a really great plane with a lot of character. Your glowing review also helped convince me so cheers!

    • @IntotheBlueSimulations
      @IntotheBlueSimulations  Před 2 lety

      Phewww, nearly there! : P
      Well, I'm glad you're enjoying the PC-6! Overall I think it's another great MILVIZ offering. I agree that the DRM situation is rather extreme (I hate it when the legitimate customers are "punished" for someone else's wrongdoing), but I gather MILVIZ are considering easing back on that one possibly. We'll have to wait and see. . . I read somewhere that the Corsair was illegally downloaded over 200,000! times (by MILVIZ's estimates) so I guess you can't blame them for trying to do something about it.
      Funnily enough, it was between Indonesia or Antarctica for this video. Wasn't sure about the Aerosoft scenery though, so I just went with the easier (free) option. What do you make of the AS Antarctica scenery? I'll probably still pick it up at some point, a fun part of the world to be flying around in for sure (I'm just not a fan of the scenery being "modular" in nature).
      I hear the Twotter might now be aimed at the more "casual" crowd (only rumors I've been hearing - it will be a shame if true though), so you may well have made the right choice! Like you, the G1000 didn't bother me as much as I thought it would and yes, the piston Porter is a much prettier beast haha.
      Okay, I think we're all square again now! ; )
      Thanks very much as always for watching and supporting the channel Megadyptes! It's very much appreciated.
      All the best : )

      @@IntotheBlueSimulations MilViz are removing the windows service part of the DRM for the next patch. You can already download it from their support forums. You have to manually uninstall the 'WASM Service Helper' though but that's easy enough. I'm quite pleased they removed it!
      Only had a few flights around AS's Antarctica and I think it's a bit of a mixed bag. The main airport itself is quite well modelled and who doesn't love waddling penguins? But everything outside of the airport is basically just a bonus and not so great. They have touched up the scenery a bit around the airfield I think but it's still quite rough looking and can look a bit FSXy in places which I guess is due to the lack of decent aerial photography in Bing for the region. Also you can't really use live weather as the sim will make the surrounding bay all iced up when in reality it's an ice free port during the warmer part of the year (which is why the base is there in the first place), so unless you set custom weather presets you'll have iceburgs and the ship floating around in a huge block of ice which doesn't look great! There's some POIs located around which make for interesting flights I guess and I've not yet flown down to the two smaller strips they've also included. So yeah a bit of a mixed bag really, maybe wait for a sale or something I suppose. Although saying that the couple of flights I have done were quite interesting. Some epic terrain down that way.
      There all caught up with your replies! Although now I see you've just uploaded a Ju 52 video lol. Guess I'll try to keep up but knowing me I'll build up a new backlog soon enough and subject you to yet another broadside of comments.
