      Hello OzWookiee
      Just few remarks on this great review concerning Goose.
      It seems there is a little problem with the screwing of the propellers. it is not normal to see 4 blades during the rpm transition
      Other remark, some parts of the modeling would deserve to have more polygons
      And the last for me, it seems as i can see on this video that pilot and copilot are twins !!
      Except these remarks, this add on is really nice, of course I will buy it.

    • @IntotheBlueSimulations
      @IntotheBlueSimulations  Před 2 lety +3

      Haha, well the “Twins” were my fault Franck. The pilot models can be changed, but I happened to accidentally choose two that look almost identical hehe. The rest of your points I’ll leave with the big man, but I’m really glad you enjoyed the review and I hope you’re enjoying the Goose!
      Happy flying : )

      I believe Big Radials already have the aircraft handed over to Asobo and once it checks out, it should be available from the Marketplace. I’ve no idea how long that might take though I’m afraid (I’m not sure anyone does really haha).

    Carbon tetrachloride fire extinguisher is a very nice touch. They were banned in the 1950’s, the chemical itself being rather toxic and able to generate phosgene gas in a hot enough fire. My father had one in the family automobile for quite a few years.
    (Modern dry chemical fire extinguishers are just better. But the brass carbon tet fire extinguisher is just cool. Virtual toxicity is a lot easier to deal with, anyway.)

    • @IntotheBlueSimulations
      @IntotheBlueSimulations  Před 11 měsíci +1

      Indeed OG, it’s a nice little detail. I knew carbon tetrachloride extinguishers weren’t great, but I had no idea they could produce phosgene gas!! When the solution is worse than the problem haha. . . XD

    When I was a kid here in Auckland (New Zealand) we had a holiday house on an island served by a tiny local airline flying widgeons and gooses around the islands near Auckland, even up into the Bay of Islands. Landing on the water then taxying up onto a beach was just what they did, then back in town they'd land on the harbour and taxi up the ramp into the old seaplane base (where TEAL used to haul their Short Solents out for maintenance). In my experience, a Grumman amphib operating from a land runway or loading and unloading in the water at a jetty is much more of a party trick than what we used to watch them do several times every day :-)

    • @IntotheBlueSimulations
      @IntotheBlueSimulations  Před 2 lety +1

      Haha, well that’s news to me ceegnz, but I’m glad I wasn’t violating the aircraft’s operating limitations at any rate haha! It’s a fun little trick to try in the sim for sure.
      That doesn’t sound like a half bad way to spend your childhood! I’m really hoping we’ll see an NZ update sooner rather than later (I’m sure you are as well)!
      Cheers : )

    I purchased this yesterday and I am certainly enjoying it, it's great fun being able to land and take off on water as well as Asphalt.
    Only thing I've noticed that let it down a bit is as I pan around in outside view the sound of the gorgeous engines doesn't change at all no matter if I'm looking from the front, side or rear.

    • @IntotheBlueSimulations

      Hi Sleight,
      Glad you're enjoying the Goose overall! It really is a fun little addition into the sim.
      That's a shame about the sounds and I must admit I didn't pick that one up myself (I mostly fly internally when I'm simming). The aircraft has already received a couple of patches, so hopefully Big Radials will continue to work on the sounds going forward.
      All the best and happy flying! : )

      Yes, I used to rather enjoy the Goose back in the FSX days and especially enjoyed all of the missions (very sad to see that MSFS hasn't taken a similar tack so far - it would be the perfect sim for it!)
      I do hope you're enjoying the Goose! Indeed Big Radials have already been busy fixing her up where needs be.

    We need its big brother, the Grumman HU-16 Albatross, for the latest iteration of the sim. The last one in the U.S. Coast Guard visited Air Station San Diego while I was stationed there. (As a surface type, not an aviator)
    It was no longer certified for water takeoff and landing. Watching it taxi across the highway to Lindbergh Field (now San Diego International), those big radials popping and banging the whole way. . . The image stays with me. They had a special traffic light and gates to allow Coast Guard fixed wing aircraft (and the occasional broken helicopter) to get across the highway. When running down to Baja California with extra fuel, the helicopters also had to do a runway takeoff from time to time.

    Very nice review, thank you! And after flying the Goose in MSFS myself, I absolutely agree with your summary. I was a bit hesitant buying the plane because in the screenshots I did not like the cockpit too much. But as we can see in your video, it looks absolutely fine, and the whole plane feels really immersive. Looking forward to flying the included bush trip ...

    • @IntotheBlueSimulations
      @IntotheBlueSimulations  Před 2 lety +1

      Hi Volker,
      Glad your enjoying the Goose! It’s always hard to describe in a video, but some aircraft just have “character” and others don’t. The Goose looks pretty good graphically, but more importantly (I think) it “feels” right (in terms of atmosphere). As with the C22J, I can forgive a lot graphically, if the aircraft feels the part.
      A very immersive and entertaining offering from Big Radials overall! I’ll have to try the bush trip myself one of these days. . .
      Happy flying! : )

    Excellent review. This aeroplane looks like a lot of fun, especially if you live somewhere with a lot of water like here in New Zealand. ;) It's good to see another quality aircraft released for a reasonable price too. I have no doubt that the developer will perform whatever tweaks and correction needed, especially as they have left a comment here as well. Shows they are interested in feedback and will act on it. All in all, a very positive experience.

      I was pleasantly surprised by the price of the addon - great to see! Big Radials do seem to be very receptive to feedback, they've already put out a couple of patches etc. I was fairly sure that any existing issues would indeed be fixed up : )

      The short answer is both yes and no haha. Flight models can still be edited on many addons, but Asobo have rather muddied the waters on that one; anything purchased in-sim is encrypted and a number of other devs have started to follow suit - a real shame, as this sort of behaviour rather kills off one of the avenues people enjoyed in the hobby (and of course prevents people from fixing up issues with lacklustre addons).

    • @IntotheBlueSimulations
      @IntotheBlueSimulations  Před rokem +1

      Hi David,
      Unfortunately, I don’t have any particularly useful feedback for you I’m afraid. I haven’t been a able to spend much time with the Goose since recording this (not that I have anything against the aircraft, simply that free time / new addon reviews haven’t allowed me another outing). The few water landings I made with the Goose, they were pretty much what you saw here, but that was only down to the fact that it felt “comfortable” to land the aircraft in such a way. In short, I haven’t tried landing her on “the step”, but it rather sounds like it’s an aircraft issue, rather than something you’re doing (given how much effort you seem to have put into the endeavour).
      Sorry I can’t really offer up much more than that. If it’s really bothering you, it might be worth getting in touch with Big Radials, they’re usually pretty receptive with this sort of thing.

    I was looking at the cockpit graphics and thought, this looks very FS9 to me?
    Maybe I am picky, but shouldnt MSFS graphics look like 2022 and not 1999?
    I know its a 70 year old aircraft, but the graphics dont need to look 1999?
    All the paints look FS9...are they not using "Blender"?
    MSFS can take far higher graphics than this and still produce good frame rates?

      Haha, I remember the sounds well! They seem to have hung around to this day. I can't remember what MSFS addon I was testing a while back, but some cheeky developer was still using them in their product XD
      Initially I was in agreement and somewhat missed the retractable floats, mostly because I liked the aesthetic of the aircraft with the floats folded. I've grown to like the fixed floats though, makes the aircraft feel more "honest" somehow. At the end of the day, it's still accurate at least (and not simply that the dev couldn't be bothered to model them etc).
      I agree that texturing isn't a strong point of the addon. The livery looked ok to me, but then I am no artist ha. The internal textures do look somewhat dated and I've certainly seen better work in MSFS. The aircraft "feels" the part though and looks decent enough that you don't notice the texturing once you're up and running. I can forgive the texturing, as the Goose has quite a bit of character overall and really is rather good fun in the sim.
      One day we'll get an addon that ticks all the boxes - I know where you'd put your money ; )

    There is currently a serious issue with this bird which Big Radials are aware of, and say will be fixed soon. I usually fly with a friend, and we both bought this plane yesterday. When we tried to fly together we discovered that while our own aircraft looked gorgeous, the other looked like something made from cereal boxes by a childrens' tv presenter. It rather took the shine off the evening. So if you plan to fly with other people, you may want to hold off until the fix arrives. Thanks again for this excellent review. A lovely plane that is fun to fly but also has lots of room for improvements:
    - compartment for GPS you can click the Nav through the door and it comes out
    - lower the gear in water and the wheels will drive on water like Jesus. Creator encourages to go from water on land but why is it driving with wheels on water ?
    - fuel system broken most likely due to SU9
    - hitting the autostart: switches are in wrong position (magneto in off position as I left it)
    - I thought wow am Anker finally I can park my plane in water -> only cosmetic :(
    - textures medium quality
    - prop animations sometimes not so good
    - I miss Wind informations badly in flight a Tablet would be very helpful
    - lighting I don’t understand: 3colours for the wingtips? Why?
    Overall a good plane and very enjoyable. The engines sounds are top notch. I recommend buying it when you are into retro planes and seaplanes. I hope for more immersion like sounds in the cockpit, rolling on ground etc. You hear zero sound on touchdown in water or land. I am off to Tasmania now on the Tasman Airline livery. Enjoy!

    How did you make the flying scenes? The engine sounds are not from the Grumman goose. I road many times in the Goose in Alaska in my youth and they never sounded like what is recorded here. Also, the landing in the water is fake. I never saw one land like what you show. When I was in high school in Ketchikan, Alaska our home was directly above the Alaska Coastal Ellis terminal (as it was known then) and these aircraft came and went all during the day. I am very disappointed because you left off the great sounds of the aircraft. And I never saw a Goose land as you picture it in the video. (Ugh!)

      Hi Tom,
      Apologies if I'm stating the obvious, but this was a review video for a flight simulation product.
      Everything was recorded in Microsoft Flight Simulator, using the Big Radials Grumman Goose addon. I play no part in how the addon looks, sounds and flies (well, I'm the one "flying" it haha, but I didn't create the flight model); I was simply trying to create a reasonably accurate flight and review the product accordingly.

    I just wish the gauges worked properly. There's been a perennial problem with the GPS, and the steam gauges don't work properly (the magnetic compass suffers from gyroscopic drift, and even if it did work properly, the gyropilot can't be recalibrated anyway. I'm not sure how long this aircraft has been available (must be well over a year at this point), but it's shameful that those of us who prefer steam gauge navigation still can't navigate it over any distance reliably.

    • @IntotheBlueSimulations
      @IntotheBlueSimulations  Před 11 měsíci

      That is a real shame Prometheus and I must admit, I wasn’t aware of the issue regarding the magnetic compass. I believe the Goose was updated again recently, did that update still not fix the problem? I’m wondering whether Big Radials are even aware of the issue, as presumably it would be an easy fix? Perhaps it’s worth getting in touch with them directly. . .
      All the best!

    • @Beery1962
      @Beery1962 Před 11 měsíci +1

      @@IntotheBlueSimulations I've been in contact with them on a number of occasions, and on a number of issues with the Goose (mainly the fact that, as it originally shipped, it had 3x the range of the real aircraft - they finally fixed this months after they were made aware of the problem). On the issues with the compass and with the gyropilot, their attitude is that the aircraft was never intended to be study-level, and that they may or may not get around to fixing it (depending on whether they can devote resources to making a proper compass and gyropilot on one of their next projects - they are not willing to fix an already-released product). So we are left with a 1930s aircraft that would be perfect for steam gauge-based island-hopping, but which cannot be used for those sorts of activities because the gauges don't work properly. It's extremely frustrating.

    • @IntotheBlueSimulations
      @IntotheBlueSimulations  Před 11 měsíci

      Oh, well that is a shame (and I would have hoped that Big Radials would fix up such an issue). . . Not an ideal solution, but does turning off gyro drift within the sim, at least prevent the compass from drifting?

      @IntotheBlueSimulations  Před 2 lety

      Hi Schlonz,
      It used to be very much possible for a user to “tweak” their purchase in previous sims (less so in MSFS unfortunately) and indeed I have dabbled with some texture / flight model alterations, swapped out a sound pack here and there in the past; I certainly wouldn’t profess to have anywhere near the skills of the Big Radials team though - there’s no way I could do what they do!
      I don’t point out the negative aspects of a product specifically to deride a developer, simply to let the customer know the good and the bad of what they are purchasing (often the issues I point out, don’t even bother me on a personal level). I don’t think I was unduly unfair towards the Goose? I have a good relationship with Big Radials and they in fact reached out to me, to see whether or not I would like to take a look at the aircraft. I don’t think they would have done so, if they thought I was going to be unreasonable in my review (I try my best to be as objective as I can).
