  • Meisner Technique: Stage Three. Activity and Hover.
In this video Leah and Pakob demonstrate an Activity and Hover. Watch until the end as after the exercise I explain this stage thoroughly.
An activity is Meisner‘s way of doing scene work before actually jumping into the written dialogue. You will create an imaginary circumstance, that you can really connect with and relate to. From there you are going to play second stage repetition with your partner.
The purpose of this exercise is to teach you how to believe in the imaginary circumstance in order to be moved and changed emotionally off of the circumstance, while also allowing your partner to move and change you emotionally. Ultimately, if done correctly, you’ll be changed off of the imaginary circumstance AND off of your partner.
Ok, so what does an activity consist of? It must consist of three elements:
    1. It must be physically difficult. Something that is not easy to do.
    2. It must have a time constraint. This creates a sense of urgency.
    3. There must be a meaning. A real meaning to you, something that you can truly feel.
As for the Hover, their job is to play the repetition game and be present with their partner.

Seeing these two go back and forth with reacting to one another's lines really helps me to understand the technique better.
