Meisner Technique: Stage 6. Relationships
This is the sixth video in our Meisner Technique video series. In this video you will see advanced students (and instructors) demonstrating a relationship in the Meisner Technique, immediately followed with a critique from Jessica.
In the relationship stage of the Meisner Technique the actors should have a clear point of view towards each other and the given circumstances. From our viewing standpoint we should be able to tell who they are to each other, (siblings, lovers, friends etc.) and we should also be able to tell how they feel about each other through their behavior. All of this will be accomplished by the actors working off of each other emotionally without any dialogue.

Wow, yes, in the first scenario, you confirmed for me what I was seeing.
In a matter of minutes, all three actors had me believing in their current relationships *and* what it had been years before - all from their ability to give in to their characters' circumstances, and let it show in their behaviour.
That moment Angela and Pakob completely melt into what they used to be, while Joe looks on, seemingly wanting to fold himself away into the nearest drawer... He's so uncomfortable but suffers through it anyway because he knows it's simultaneously inappropriate and completely understandable, and clearly cares for both of them.
It could have easily gone off the rails, but the inner conflicts that the three actors had to juggle kept things interesting, subtle... and a little hard to watch, in a good way.
Hats off to all three actors, plus the two actors in the second scenario - there's so much to read from their short performances. I don't know how they do it!
