    Great video! Thanks! On the Nalgene point, some do not like to contaminate their water bladders with things like electrolyte tablets, keeping the water bladder for H2O only. The additional bottle is good, not only for additives, but for sharing with others when their water runs out. Extra water bottles are much easier to clean after being shared.

    • @Alldayruckoff
      @Alldayruckoff  Před 6 lety +3

      Great point!! I should have mentioned that I never put electrolytes (or anything besides water) in the water bladder. That thing is strictly 100% water.
      There aren't many things more gross than an old water bladder that wasn't properly cleaned and had something other than water sitting in it 😂
      At this point I don't bring electrolytes to a Light but for a Tough that extra water bottle + electrolytes is most likely happening.
      Thank you for bringing this point up... I know it will help people out!

    Very thorough video. First GoRuck Light in a week. Was able to double-check my gear with your video.

      Awesome! I think the only thing added since I shot this was a "first aid kit" which can be as simple as just a few Band-Aids. Which event are you doing? Hope you have fun out there!

    Great video. Prepping for my first event next weekend (Bataan Indy),,, was on the fence about some of these items but I'm going to add them now. And second on the ADR Handle. Got one a few weeks back and I LOVE it. Maybe best aftermarket item out there.

    1:22 - He is not joking. Coordinate with your team, and only bring what you need. Do not be a blue falcon and bring extra shit, because your Cadre WILL make you carry it, and it will suck.

    • @Alldayruckoff
      @Alldayruckoff  Před 6 lety +3

      It's only funny now because the event is over but I did take part in a Light that ended up carting around 4 or 5 team weights since "they would be lonely if we left them in the cars." Hard to argue with that cadre logic 😂

    Great video! Thank you so much. Preparing for my first GoRuck. I'm doing a "Basic". Is that the same thing as a "Light?"

    Great video! I'm thinking of trying Rucking and this helped answer a lot of questions. As for the nalgene bottle, I have a water purifier that attaches to the bottle. I don't know if you ever need to filter extra water though.

    • @Alldayruckoff
      @Alldayruckoff  Před 5 lety

      Some events it's very useful at! Usually the cadre will let you know in advance. The last Tough I did was in the mountains and we refilled water from a lake using a few water purification systems. The cadre from GORUCK let us know in advance that our team should bring them so that was helpful.

  • @winter2625
    @winter2625 Před 6 lety +3

    This was so helpful, thank you! I’m doing my first Light next month and I’m nervous! One question, why do I need a Pelican case if I have a dry bag? Is it just so things don’t get crushed?

    • @Alldayruckoff
      @Alldayruckoff  Před 6 lety

      That is exactly it! It's really only relevant if you're bringing your phone or something else fragile with you. I've seen at least a dozen cracked screens over the years when phones weren't properly protected. What a way to put a damper on such a fun day and event 😮

  • @leperkawn
    @leperkawn Před 4 lety +1

    Why exactly do you need the hard case? Isn't the dry bag itself enough?

    • @Alldayruckoff
      @Alldayruckoff  Před 4 lety +2

      It would be if you just want to keep the items dry. At Light, Tough, and Heavy events bags can get thrown around, dropped, and beaten so for electronics I like to keep them extra safe.

    • @leperkawn
      @leperkawn Před 4 lety +1

      @@Alldayruckoff Ok, thanks! I'm planning for a tough (first event), but I'm a backpacker and I look at that bulky case and just see added weight! Do you have a recommendation for something smaller? Maybe the Pelican Micro? I'll have to measure. I have a Black Diamond Revolt lamp.
      Edit: measured and the micro 1010 is perfect according to stated internal dims

    • @Alldayruckoff
      @Alldayruckoff  Před 4 lety +1

      @@leperkawn Is the case just for your headlamp or will you be putting anything else in it? Events usually start later in the day so I'll keep my headlamp in the top of my pack for a few hours then wear it then slip it back in the top. I usually just keep my phone in the Pelican case at this point. The Micro series is great it's just not as waterproof as I'd like for expensive electronics. If you were thinking for a headlamp then I'm sure that would work well.

    • @leperkawn
      @leperkawn Před 4 lety

      @@Alldayruckoff Good point on the phone. I didn't consider that. I can't find anything smaller that will fit a phone and is water*PROOF*, everything is IP67 or 68... It just kills me this thing weighs over 1 lb!
      Now I'm thinking I'll put my phone/cards in there, and my lamp depending on how things go. The thing 1120 huge enough to fit them all.

      This is the US version. The overseas versions didn't start shipping until the end of August. I've got one of those as well and will be putting a comparison together but you can see some of the initial markings on the non-USA made bags here: czcams.com/video/R9WAGm7rWOE/video.html

  • @medicwheat69
    @medicwheat69 Před 6 lety +5

    Okay time to sound like a dingus.
    I just completed my first go ruck event on 04/08/0218.
    I didn’t read anything about it just signed up because my old plt sgt asked me to do it with him. Haven’t seen the man since 2006 so I thought “oh 12 mike ruck?” Fuck it ok.
    I did not know what was involved leading up to the ruck March.
    I ignored the packing list and just used no joke
    Free weights off my free bar thinking fuck it toss in this 25 lbs weight. So it sunk low.
    Then I used a old beater back pack. Old aid bag from my active duty days.
    Now I did bring a water bladder 3 Lts and bring a old reflective pt belt.
    So I have free weights shaking around banging me in the back and head as I did bear craws, crab walks, water (up to my hips) burpees and such.
    All with my ruck on or held or something.
    I also didn’t physically prepare for the challenge.
    Honestly the only reason I finished was
    -I didn’t want to punk out
    -every team member showed good team work and didn’t de-evolve into first day of basic bitching.
    -last group for the weekend after the Cadre did a heavy and a tough event back to back. So I think their fuck with the light group had lessened if they hadn’t spent their energies on the two other ticks that weekend. Not calling the Cadre week but I think they eased up on my light Rucker’s (majority new to ruck challenge). Personal opinion looking back.
    So yeah. I am happy I did it even though I hadn’t strapped a pack on my back in eight years. Packed on 60 lbs. and spend all my time behind a desk these days.
    Made me want to do another challenge. But first I will invest in some gear, and train up. That way next day of work I don’t look like I broke my legs.

    • @Alldayruckoff
      @Alldayruckoff  Před 6 lety

      Now that's a story! Glad you stuck through and stayed to the end... the team can be a great asset in that case. I also took part in a Bataan Light last weekend and one of the participants had done the Tough the night before. Their backpack was being held together entirely by plastic zip ties... which was a sight to see. In hindsight I really should have asked to take pictures of it.
      If you don't want to invest in expensive gear you can buy a long piece of circular foam from a hardware store, or a pool noodle, and cut it up and wrap it around the weight. There's a few small, and inexpensive, things you can do to make things like that suck a little less. I usually tell people the events are already a little difficult you don't need to make it harder by smashing the weight into your head :)
      What city were you at?
