    "Only a 12-hour event" LOL
I am a brand new rucker, nervous as tar about my first GRL in January next year. The idea of "only a 12-hour event" makes me laugh in admiration.

I hear ya :) The point is that you “think” you need all this extra stuff. But, in most cases you don’t. Fear of the unknown causes you to over pack for every imaginable contingency and you end up with a 45# ruck full of crap you’ll never use. After you earn the patch, come back and let me know how it was. Winter events are a special kind of fun :)

@@Rucking Will do. Why on Earth I have signed up for a winter event is beyond me. Hopefully January in Dallas won’t be too bad. Sometimes it can be though.

@@Rucking I would kindly ask you to please stop taking away my excuses to buy more crap. You posting about the stuff that I *don’t* need is totally failing to feed my itchy “Buy” finger. :)

@@MarkEWallace I under packed and underdressed for a winter event couple years ago. Didn’t die ;)

@@Rucking I am thankful for the weather starting to get a little colder & wetter here in the Central Texas area. It will give me the chance to test clothing options leading up to the January GRL. I want to see how minimal I can go on the clothing in the cold and wet and still be reasonably comfortable.
Not dying is good. Nice work!!

thanks for the info, very helpful! What do you usually wear for the event? pants/shorts etc.

Over 50 degrees = Shorts, athletic shirt. Under 50 degrees = GORUCK Simple Pants, long sleeve compression shirt, athletic shirt, rain shell. I ruck in running shoes. That's the basic rundown.

Have you found energy gels or blocks helpful. I notice you used to carry jelly beans and don’t now. Thoughts? Thanks

They can be helpful. For me, I don’t have to have them for a Tough. If it was a Heavy or an HTB, then I would pack them. If you aren’t used to an overnight event, then tossing some in the bag could be helpful.

Will these packs fit the rogue laser cut plates, or any plates that you would put in a vest? Want to buy the pack....hoping to use weights I already have...

Is that the 20L or the 25L?
