- A boat ride on Lake Chapala out to the island of Mezcala where the old fort, church and prison are part of the interesting history of the Mexican Reveloution and later the prison for Jalisco and Morelia. Retired life in Ajijic, Mexico on Lake Chapala. RV Life. Projects in the mountains of central Mexico, our USA travels in a 40' Monaco motor home, or whatever else is on my mind today. :)

JC loved this video. I am originally from Guadalajara. Living in Los Angeles for 48 years. And didn't know that this island existed. So, thank you for your video.

Thankyou JC
My husband and I are looking to move to Mexico and we have no family yet nervous to make the move. My husband prefers the Lake Chapala area yet we don't know anyone we are retired. Your videos are very interesting and you are so dear and down to earth.
Very nice video and show. Also, your brothers son is so very lucky to have you a his uncle. I wish I had the same ok, they are all dead now but while they lived I wish they could have been like you, you caring and taking the time to spend time and show them around. They are so blessed to have you.
Tianguis, a Nahuatl word. From the language of the Aztecs which means, Open Air Market. Fascinating that Mexico still retains its roots in everyday life.
Muy interesante video, no sabia que existía esa cárcel y la hacienda
Me too, love the trees. I thoroughly enjoyed this video and especially the storytelling.
These are some of my favorite videos that you do, the ones where you go out into the community. I like seeing what is around the Chapala area.
Thanks for the interesting video. We live in Joco and getting ready to move to a place out by San Nicolas. We took your advice and tried Scanttos Deli, and who should pass by but you, this was on Wednesday. One day maybe we will bump into each other. Thanks for the content. We want to take that trip to the Island one day. Steve and Pam

Awesome history of the area. Really enjoyed this video.
That was fun, thanks!
❤️🍀
The world can't understand Mexico's fascination with charales but at least you guys with them a try. Good on you. About Chapala lake water level is well known by Mexican hydrologists that it exposed to big fluctuations due to droughts, changes in the lerma river which starts in the state of Mexico and the management by Jalisco. In the next 5 years the water level will drop drastically due to the el nino. Let's see what the federal government does after the election in 2024.
Hope you can do a follow up video; with the rest of the story about the prison!
Don't remember if I said it in the video … the rest of the story is that Jalisco closed it in 1957.
😁😁😎😎👍👍
Congratulations to Ruben. I wish all expats could speak Spanish the way he speaks English! Great video Jerry! I see your keyboard is back in place. Saludos! (PS. I would never eat fish from the Lake as we all know it is super contaminated...)
The Mexican revolution started in 1910 and "officially" end it in 1917, but there were battles until the 1920's, because many people felt the peace threaty was not being totally respected, the new government didn't gave agricultural lands, it was unfertile, they felt betrayed.
That’s from the independence war not the revolution
Correct. Revolution 1910. War of Independence 1810.
"Capilla" is a Chapel, Church is an "Iglesia". Very different.
While a church is a building for Christian worship, a chapel is not intended to be a building; rather, it is a space set aside for prayer with in a church by individuals. I believe, in spite of the sign and Ruben's calling it a chapel, that it was in fact a church. An iglesia, as I said. :)
@@JCTravelStories yes, Iglesias also have Capillas inside them, too. Just wanted to translate the word bc spanish speakers almost always say "church" for every worship building there is as their vocabulary is not as extensive in English, so they say "church" for everything: chapel, parish, or cathedral, when it's not a church. Most people don't know the differences either.
You need to set up a live bird cam just for the sounds. There are bunches in Africa and different places. I think you can make money from them
Interesting idea. Gonna Google bird cams. :)
Could this be the place where the Mexica emigrated from? Aztlan?
Don't know. ???
Hi JC how much for the boat ride ?
I don’t actually remember. It was a family price and my nephew paid it. I think it was about 1000 pesos plus a really good tip for the personal tour.
My Mexican wife is yelling in the background for you to pronounce ‘tianguis’ correctly. She’s not usually listening to your videos. Thankfully, because you mispronounce almost everything haha.
Hey. He's trying ok?, to me I'm a little embarrassed by the poor English the tour guider used, 😂😂😂😂😂
He’s lived there in Ajijic for like 20 years! He should know how to speak Spanish by now.
Glad you married her. LOL!
The video is very interesting but the guide's English makes me a little dizzy. He keeps saying eighteen (1800s) but he really means nineteen (1900s).
You probably should not travel out of English speaking countries if that's your assessment of Reuben's English. Unless,of course, you enjoy being dizzy. I suspect you get dizzy a lot. Just saying. :)
capilla, the chapel
In Spanish cañón is both, canyon and cannon. He keeps saying canyon.
@@JCTravelStories No, la verdad es que soy de NYC pero en este momento estoy en México, pero en el caso de este guía, mejor hubiera hecho la conversación en español con subtítulos en iniglés.
@@JCTravelStories My assessment of Rubén's English is that he speaks better than you Spanish. That's for sure ;)
I'm Mexican, I'm apologizing for the poor English of the tour guider, but hey!!, he is trying.
Thank you, I'm sure there was one segment where he forgot he was supposed to be speaking English?
cormorans are the same in spanish, Cormorans
Not quite. Cormorant in English.
