Yeah, the timing with Regular as a full English release was very intentional I think. It was their first full length album. They started their first major tour in 2019 and a huge chunk of it was in North America. (2019 was also the year SM regularly started putting various subtitles on the MVs for their groups) Simon Says is a real statement of them deciding to do things their own way (take off the masks) even though "Simon" says they are a "real vibe killer" and that they need to "be cool" according to whatever Simon says... All the choreos for these songs are amazing to watch and very intense. NCT takes a great deal of pride in their level of performance. So glad you'll be getting to know their b-sides! There is such a great range of styles and versatility.
Simon Says' bridge remains my fave 127 bridge, it's just so good! The build up to the high note then followed by the explosion of the last chorus. Perfectionnnn
All 3 versions of "Regular" (the Korean and English by 127 and the Chinese version by WayV) actually have 3 distinct meanings! I know you haven't listened to WayV's version yet, but you're welcome to pull the lyric translations for all three up and compare! The Korean version is talking more about their hard work and path to success, the English version talks about enjoying the fruits of that labor and relishing in the wealth and WayV's Chinese version approaches it as a more internal review of their success and want they want for themselves. 4:00 NCT don't exactly get CRAZY explicit with the lyrics but their debut song "The 7th Sense" has Mark, at 16, saying 'that's a long ass ride", a song from 127 in 2017 where they literally yell "Shake that ass" in the background, and they have PLENTY of songs full of sexual innuendo (looking at you WayV and NCT 127) lmao so "buss it buss it for a real one" fits right in with their catalogue really. 5:$3 I like to say NCT are kinda kings of manifestation because in 2017 they were also singing that they're the biggest hits on the stage lmao and in 2017 they were popular but not THAT popular. And in 2018, I'm sure they had money, but not "I just made a million" levels LMAO soo funny but they've made it now so hey that's you speak it into existence! "Simon Says' is amazing and a direct response to the criticism NCT's music had been getting since debut. They were being labeled "noise music" as an insult and people were even saying they were SM's like biggest mistake. This song was them saying "We absolutely make noise music and we will continue to do what we want" and I LOVE it. That bridge is forever ICONIC! The way it goes from Doyoung, Jaehyun, Jungwoo, Haechan and finally to Taeil...insane. A top 5 127 title track in my opinion! "Regular" and "Simon Says" were also the 1st and only times we got the full 10 members of NCT 127 by the way. They went from 7 (Taeil, Taeyong, Yuta, Jaehyun, Winwin, Mark, and Haecha) in "Firetruck" to 9 (added Johnny and Doyoung) with "Limitless" and finally they added Jungwoo in 2018 with "Regular". But after "Simon Says" and the Regular-Irregular album, Winwin officially moves to WayV (WayV debuts in January 2019) so 127 drops back down to 9 and that's been the lineup they've had ever since! "Wake-Wakey" is without a doubt my least favorite NCT 127 song lol but it's not bad by any means and I'm glad you enjoyed it! It just doesn't work for me, I think they have too many other songs that are just...better. And I hate the whispering Johnny does at the beginning. But it is actually another Japanese song! "Chain" was their Japanese debut, but it was just an EP. "Wakey-Wakey" came with a full album. And the choreo is pretty wild! I think the more you listen to kpop the more you'll be able to register the distinctions in Korean and Japanese audibly. And Chinese when you get into WayV! Super excited for the albums and unit guides! You will not be disappointed!
ah that’s right! love the way they can convert different messages 😭😭hey I’ll take all the #MatureContent i can get I didn’t even clock that but that’s so true they literally were saying they were the biggest hits a year into their careers😭😭 that’s so real LMAO hey i enjoyed wakey wakey but i lowkey 100% get the way u feel😭😭 first mini album is is coming soon :)
the funny thing about regular is that they werent very rich or all that successful when it was released😅for jungwoo it was his debut year. they manifested through that song fr simon says is about the criticisms they got for making "noise music" and how theyre going to keep doing what they want to anyway. one of the lines is literally "nct noise, you cant break me." and they still make boundary pushing music to this day for title tracks :)
It's funny when you said their voices sound so clear apart from backtrack in Wakey Wakey, it feels out of the ordinary to me because usually whenever I hear this beat, the autotune vocals will follow in, but it did not happen in NCT127 songs.
i know you’ll love Simon Says 😂 the first time i heard it, maybe my feeling was same as your Simon Says has the most best bridges for me. It’s the song that never obsolete 💚
NEVER apologize for cranking Simon Says 😂
LOL I had to CRANK that 😭
✨I be walking with the cheese, that’s that queso ✨ still one of the most iconic lines ever 😂
😭😭
Taeyong's intro rap in Simon says>>>>
I’m REALLY loving what Taeyong has going on 👀

Oh wow with that added context that makes sooo much sense! for the English release AND the idea of Simon Says lol
Your face, Strokie, when Simon Says starts up was my exact reaction! 😂 Like, okayyy I'm shook!
😭😭it hits u hard!

NCT127 "Chain", Lemonade, Cherry Bomb
English version Regular is iconic. I think they played with the lyrics so goofy and well at the same time
they definitely changed the vibes with the english version!
