    We recently visited Canada for a few months, and we had a great time exploring places neither of us had been to before. Edmonton sometimes gets a bad rep, however, a lot of people are moving to Edmonton these days, so we had to see what all the fuss is about. We actually spent nearly a whole month in the city and we have to say, we quite enjoyed it. Let us know in the comments if you've ever been there and if so, would you move there? In the next few weeks we'll be releasing more North American content (Banff, Vancouver, Seattle and more) so make sure to subscribe so you don't miss it! As always, thanks for watching!😀- Brandon & Anja

      I (Brandon) used to work in kitchens as well before we started moving around and working remotely. Can't even imagine going back to that life at this point!
      That sounds amazing. Traveling around Mexico together is high on the list for us..but first we're heading back to SE Asia. We used to live there but weren't doing CZcams back then. Stoked!

    Great video BUT every single CZcamsr that bothers even coming to Edmonton always says the downtown is dead and never goes to Whyte Ave in the Old Strathcona neighbourhood which is the heart of Edmonton full of Restaurants, Pubs, Cafe's etc. It's Edmonton's main street where all the action happens.

    Thanks for the video of my home city. Just if you come here again, i recommend. Heading away from downtown. Whyte Avenue is our bustling club scene curb side patios street performance and restaurants next to the university. The truth is that downtown Edmonton is still recovering from the pandemic and hasn't been the same. River valley is an excellent must-see as well, which is free. Etown is a nature lovers paradise. Lots and lots to see all the things that made me fall in love with this city.

    Used to live in Edmonton a few years ago, right downtown. So surprised to see it so dead, it used to be one of the best summer cities in all of Canada, random events, markets, and festivals downtown all summer long, lots of food stalls, and the downtown farmers market (so very sad that's gone). Even with the people that go away for the summers, downtown used to be busy, especially along Jasper Ave (right near the Sherlock Holmes Pub). There was a lot of crime downtown when I lived there, though. A lot of people I know moved out of the city over the last couple of years. Glad you guys had a good time!

    • @wherearewe-yt
      @wherearewe-yt  Před měsícem +1

      A lot of people talk smack about Edmonton, but we actually quite liked it! I'm from Halifax, which is pretty, but the downtown is kind of a joke. Edmonton's downtown is actually quite nice! We were there in May, and it definitely seemed quite empty in most parts. Around the pub there was some action, but once we left that area, it felt quite quiet.
      We were really looking forward to showing that farmers market. Google lied and said it was open. It was all chained up and completely empty.
      We had another commenter say there's still a lot of crime. Luckily we didn't experience any of that - but we were only really out during the day.

      @@wherearewe-yt I'm glad you liked it! If you get the chance, maybe head back there mid-summer. That's when I remember there being a lot of festivals and things to do downtown. I thought the farmers market started late spring early summer, but they might have changed the date. It's been a few years since I moved away. I hope it's still there, it was wonderful! Also, if you are there in the winter, they have the ice castles which everyone should see, and there is a winter ball that you can get tickets for. Also very nice! :)

    Noticed you were curious about tomatoes with that Yorkshire benedict. Tomato's are an (un)common serving with egg dishes. You'll typically find it available at older diners in Ontario at least. I think it's to add some acid to a salty/fatty dish.

      Don't get me wrong, we love tomatoes, but it seemed a bit random and out of place. Haha. A little side salad would have made more sense. Kind of spent the entire time in the absolute worst part of the city.. Downtown Edmonton is pretty much a business hub for large corporations. Rarely busy on a weekend during the day and never much of anything interesting going on. Plus it's just dirty in more ways than you would ever think. Outside of that, this video is fairly accurate, even though it only covers a VERY small portion of Edmonton and what Edmonton is as a city.

    • @wherearewe-yt
      @wherearewe-yt  Před měsícem

      Which parts of the city would you suggest we visit?
      You can only cover so much in 20 minutes, and it's hard enough to keep peoples attention for more than a few minutes in a major city with a lot going on, so we weren't quite sure what to show in Edmonton to be honest..haha. We're more than welcome to hear suggestions for next time. As I said, I've got family there, so we'll definitely be back!

      @@wherearewe-yt I get that you guys were trying not to spend a lot of money outside of beer and food, but there are plenty of historical sites that aren't actually in the center of the city. Fort Edmonton Park comes to mind first. Also, the parks around the city are amazing for the most part. And as cliche as it is, we have a pirate ship inside a mall... Oh!! Also the farmers market moved to a warehouse on the south side of the city. It's not a permanent establishment, but it is popular when it's open.
      I totally get that there is only so much that can fit in a 20 minute video. First stop Sherlock Holm downtown and we will shit all over the food because "Of course UK does it better".

    Why again did you come here, family?

    • @wherearewe-yt
      @wherearewe-yt  Před měsícem

      Well, yeah, of course the UK does better Yorkshire puddings. They invented them. That's typically how it goes! And we're always honest about the food. Should we lie instead? The pub was great, the food was just okay. Every other place we went that day was better (which we said). Is it your restaurant? Otherwise, why should you care? It has literally nothing to do with the city itself.
      And she said that because we have a lot of UK viewers, who will likely be watching this..and think exactly that.
      She wasn't excited because we had just finished filming our first ad a few minutes before - and it took us an hour when we thought it would take 5 minutes because I couldn't for the life of me remember what I was meant to say. 😂
