    The bike is one thing to keep cool, But,
    I built a mister system for my bike. to keep me cool. Had heat exhaustion a few times. The bike can break down but keeping yourself safe is most important.

    it is a solution but an ugly one.. the real problem has always been Harley's air cooled engine design.. That engine should have evolved into a true radiator, liquid cooled engine long ago, especially for the money they are commanding. Thank God the new 2024 models are a step in the right direction. I love my 2022 road glide but I could never install that ugly box on my frame. better to just risk a ticket splitting lanes.. lol. great content though... thanks for sharing.

      I completely disagree with you. I have a 23 Roadglide-ST and I put the ultracool oil cooler and filter on my bike and I think it looks good. I’m after performance over looks. Your taking a risk of damaging your motor or shortening its lifespan in the name of looks. I’m also running a 2into1 pipe. No grandpa looking duel pipes coming out 6in. Past the hard bags. I don’t want an all liquid cooled motor on my Harley. I love the looks of the motor and primary which is what most people prefer. I’m not against an all lquid cooled motor as an option on a bagger. Furthermore here in Louisiana my bikes power was being cut in half from overheating all interstate riding or slow country riding in this heat. Since I started running the ultracool fans I don’t have an issue with power loss or overheating. To each their own, but I’m gone to destroy my motor and loss of power to look cool.

      It wouldn’t be an air cooled Harley, that has different characteristic that an Indian water cooled. If you want a radiator, plenty of bikes out there. Also plenty of air cooled HD with 100k miles.

    It takes a combination of modifications to solve the heat problem on air cooled Harleys. I use full synthetic Mobil 1 20w50, S&S oil pump, oil cooler fan, breather bypass, Jim’s Force Flow cylinder head fan on my 2018 Road King. Added an oil dip stick with a gauge on topof it just to check if all that had been effective. Have ridden many days recently in 95+ degree days thanks to an oppressive Southern heat wave this Summer. The highest that I have seen the needle go up to on that guage has been 210 degrees. I’m very happy with the results. My only regrets are that I wish I’d put the gauged oil dip stick on first so that I could have been able to monitor the effect of each modification separately. But I am very happy with the aggregate result 11:31

    • @jamesthornton2306

      Oil does 3 things; clean, lubricate, cool. especially if they have piston cooler jets/ nozzles

    • @dhc8guru
      @dhc8guru Před měsícem

      True true! Obviously oil performance can affect engine heat but it’s not what cools the engine. If the oil is under performing, friction increases and then in turn increases engine temperature. If the engine runs hot, the oil is going to get hot and then it just keeps going back and forth until the oil breaks down and can no longer properly lubricate the engine.

  • @saralou7084
    @saralou7084 Před měsícem

    Whilst in the high of summer, and or riding in stop and go traffic, having the cooler fans running constantly is a good idea, but you need to also appreciate that oil is designed to operate at certain temperatures, and oil that can never reach operating temps can be just as deadly to your engine as overheating oil can be... This is why they design the coolers to 'kick-on' and off at predetermined temperatures.

    The problem is large displacement cylinders stuffed in a configuration that doesn’t allow airflow. The BMW R18 is 110 cu in and runs nice and cool. They have a 122 cu in the works that will no doubt run cool.
    Even water cooling a large displacement engine in a bike requires serious engineering.

  • @shenanigansofmannanan
    @shenanigansofmannanan Před měsícem

    Simple answer..... upgrade to a high output oil pump and 60wt oil.... if the average ambient air temperature of your riding area is 80°and up... 60wt oil... maybe an oil cooler if you make long runs through the desert or suffer traffic without the option for lane splitting...

    I've considered this however there is no pump so when your engine is stopped after a run, and it continues to run its fans uts only cooling the oil that is trapped in its radiator. Also when you are moving its heat is all over your left leg in its recommended installation
