  • Prepping a new bait isn't difficult, but it takes some awareness regarding yardage, sticks/trees in the way & even specific placements of trail cams based on sun-up & sun-down locations... Join us as Franklin & I set out a new archery bait for his long-time client & good friend, Bill, whose taken 6 Wolves with his bow in the last 20 years of hunting with Franklin!
    You'll also learn how to attract & change the behaviour of your Wolf pack by collecting another Wolf pack's urine or scat & placing it nearby your baiting location to mimic that another pack has come into their territory - Enjoy!

    Franklin is the master and Joel, you are the understudy. I could never keep up with Franklin walking in that snow.

      Amen to that... I hope someday I can get as good as Franklin... Just will take time is all...
      The amount of leg & core strength needed to haul your ass through all that snow is something else... At the end of the day, both Franklin & I are always exhausted & can barely finish our cup of tea before bed lol

    Thats awesome! I've crossed that river before in a truck. LOL! Again, Franklin is such a great teacher with his wealth of knowledge. Quite a few times trucking down the highway I've come across a wolf just casually trotting down the highway. Roadkills make easy dinners for them. They always get out of the way quickly though. They definitely become road smart.

      In that same area I've passed by that Wolf walking right alongside the highway. It didn't even move an inch as I passed by it going 90km/hr LOL

    Franklin is so awesome. I'm telling you he needs his own channel. Call it the life a wolf guide or Franklin's life and knowledge. 😂

      LOL I know, but he has zero time to edit or anything like that so he just sends me all of his videos to post.
      I have one coming up... He found out his Wolf pack stole the Deer hide from the Deer I harvested this passed Fall. They snapped the hide off the steel cable & dragged it up by a huge rock. The rock has a giant Wolf bed on it & Deer hair all around it. Its awesome to see.
      Just gotta edit it & I will get it out for you guys to watch!

      You might have!!! I did have a CZcams channel called "North Canada Fishing" but I rebranded to "Patterning Nature" because it is less about fishing & more about mother nature & her patterns, whether its fishing, hunting, or harvesting mushrooms... There are always patterns to follow in order to be successful in the bush!
      Appreciate the love brother - Thank you!!!

      @Gatesoutdoors hahahahahah oh yes!!! That was me. Thank you for not spilling the beans on WHY I was up there.
      Hopefully doing more of that in the near future!!! That's one awesome thing is I get to travel across the north in this job & if you're lucky... grouse will fly into your vehicles front end & you'll snag it for dinner hahahahaha (true story...)

    Why didn't you just use a Cedar or spruce branch to brush and cover your tracks

    • @PatterningNature
      @PatterningNature  Před 4 měsíci

      As in... using a branch like a broom?... We could have, but the snow was a tad deep so using our feet was a bit easier I suppose!
      Good idea though!!!!!

    I have a question about a pack coming to a bait. Will the alpha male come in first or last if a pack comes together. I have only seen 3 wolves come to bait and all three were singles. Just curious how a pack comes in. I hunt hogs a lot and the biggest boar will 99.9% of the time be the last one in but takes over the feeder once he gets there.

    • @PatterningNature
      @PatterningNature  Před 4 měsíci

      Your Hog information is a directly correlated to Wolves as well... but in saying that... Sometimes the pack will hit the bait, or a kill before the Alpha attends... But once the Alpha is present, everyone backs off & allows the Alpha to eat.
      There is a "pecking order" when they travel. They have a rear guard, Alpha, etc... but of course they do not stick in formation 24/7, but they all know their "place" within the pack.
      We've seen a Wolf feeding on the bait, then the Alpha comes over & immediately that other Wolf is on its back, rolling around, tail between its legs because its submitting to the Alpha & letting him/her know "Hey if you want to eat, go ahead!".
      Their behaviours are interesting to watch - Especially when they chase & jump at Ravens LOL

    What are you guys using for bait?

    • @PatterningNature
      @PatterningNature  Před 4 měsíci

      Roadkill mostly. But also lots of friends & Natives who provide Moose, Deer, Grouse & Bear scraps from prior years... Or more recently, I picked up a barrel of rotten fish that someone had in their backyard... Don't ask me why they had it sitting there full of fish bones/carcasses, but man did that smell...
      Really anything we can get our paws on we will use as bait! Sometimes we have lots, other years we barely get any.. Just depends on who harvests what & what roadkill we can locate & pickup.
      The beauty of working this far north & especially working from a vehicle 24/7, I can locate roadkill pretty easily!
