USING DEER FEED PLOT AS BEAR BAIT | RED LAKE, ONTARIO
With Wolf closed & Spring in full affect, I've been busy prepping my gardens, cutting wood & began to feed my Deer/Ungulates once again.
It seems like each year brings new critters to this piece of property. This is the 2nd year in a row having Black Bears roaming at my Deer feed plot. I've never actually hunted Deer off this land but my plan is to hopefully harvest a nice Bear if a decent sized one pops by for a snack.
So far a yearling Black Bear has been roaming around, eating the feed block & munching on the corn & it seems like the Wolves are snooping around, looking for their share fair of feed as well!

WOLF HUNT FINALE 2023 | RED LAKE, ONTARIO

The time has come... Wolf season is over & Spring is in full affect! Unfortunately I ended up getting quite sick 4-5 days prior to seasons closure which forced me to call it quits before doing one last overnighter. My thought process was the fact that I would have been sniffling & coughing inside of the blind all day & that would have 100% spooked off any critters coming towards the bait for a ...

Well, with the #Wolves back at Joel's Diner, its time to toss the last couple boxes of bait out for them to enjoy while I prep for my last overnighter. I'm unsure whats going on with my voice currently but I've lost it entirely with no other attributes of a cold, or sickness - Weird... Anyways, with warm days but still cold nights, I hope to get 1 more overnighter done before the season closes!...

      @@PatterningNature For a couple of reasons I prefer blind sets for wolves as opposed to large baits. But that's just me. When I approach a set and a raven is about I know fur is waiting. Then the raven finds out it will soon need to find another wolf to follow to locate food.

      @@PatterningNature Quickly stated: Wolves have primary and secondary trails, solo trails and pack trails. When wolves fan out to hunt, they have a trail THEY use. By they I mean the individual wolf. Each wolf has its own trail. The trail isn't written in stone but there are exact places THAT wolf will pass when traveling from A to B. Find that trail, set a snare, and you will have a wolf. The trail goes dead after although I have had some the were reused a few seasons later. A good location remains a good location. I have a channel called Musher's Tails. There are some trapping videos there and I explain in more detail.

    They definitely think about the diner lol there not much for deer feed you can put out that won’t attract a bear . As usual Franklin isn’t wrong but I’m thinking with just the one rub it was an immature buck or a big buck cruising through . Or mail with a dominate buck in his area he will make a run line anywhere from 10 to 30 yards apart , you won’t always see locking branches at runs either but scrapes almost always . Looking forward to the hunt brother keep the videos coming

    No issues with Crow's cleaning up the corn? I use that same apple corn from Thunder Bay feeds and the birds will clean up a 50lb bag in a few days. Even if I place it deeper in the woods with canopy cover they eventually find it

    • @PatterningNature
      @PatterningNature Před 3 měsíci

      I have both Crows & Ravens around - I only ever had 2 Crow on my trail cam eating the corn so maybe they just haven't called in the reinforcements yet LOL The Deer have been consistent, morning, lunch time, late afternoon, evening & then again at night so the Deer demolishing the corn so much that maybe the birds are too spooked to come around? I will have to see how it goes moving forward... Might be worth tossing some of those Owl or Hawk statues up around the bait to spook off any other birds LOL I also thought about building a Deer feed station with a roof so that the Deer could come feed regardless of the season & not have to dig into the snow to feed on the corn underneath... But my fear is that it will be destroyed with all the Bears we have around here.

    Glad to hear you are feeling better and back out enjoying the beautiful property you have purchased looking forward for your upcoming videos, good luck with spring bear and hopefully you get a moose tag. Thank you for sharing our successful wolf harvest on your channel as well as a picture of our lodge sign, who knows maybe someday you can come visit our neck of the woods

      I'd love to come visit!!!! I've never been to Timmins, but I have heard lots of stories about the area after working with a few folks who grew up there. I also didn't know you folks had such big dogs down there just like we do! Looks like south of you around Sudbury there may not be as many big dogs & as you get close to Algonquin Park, there isn't much other than Eastern Wolves which are quite small compared to the Timbers we have between Timmins & Red Lake!!! Then again... Down south, 2 hours north of Toronto I have heard stories of Timbers roaming so who knows!

      They were just running the rivers in Thunder bay/Lake Superior area. I have not heard them run up this far north in Red Lake, but I may be wrong?
