Hey guys, I gave Haaland another point at 4:23 because the Ballon d’Or is primarily an award for individual performances over the last year and Haaland was better at that. But the clip of me explaining that had to be removed because of copyright issues. Cheers

*>B-bu-but Haaland magically deserved the Ballon d'Or DURRRR*
If Messi had ghosted in FIVE straight critical finals: UCL Final, UCL Semi-Final, UEFA Super Cup, FA Cup Final, and the Community Cup Final and had less than 10 touches in each of those games, only to receive the Ballon d'Or due to scoring an array of tap-ins against lesser teams like Southampton and Norwich while another player single-handedly led a team of inexperienced players to World Cup glory, surely there would have been significant backlash against FIFA with claims that the award is rigged for him, etc. However, because it's Haaland-it's somehow justified that he deserved it over Messi. The double standards are so obvious
Messi's World Cup performance is a testament to his unmatched skill, his clutch goals and exceptional playmaking abilities were instrumental in Argentina's World Cup victory, contributing to almost every goal Argentina scored. He singlehandedly saved his country from elimination against Mexico and clinched the World Cup trophy against France when he was needed the most. Hence, he was voted the best player of the World Cup and was MOTM in 5 of the 7 games (WC Record), serving as the heart and soul of the team's dream run to glory since 1986.
In fact, Zidane secured the Ballon d'Or in 1998 after winning the World Cup. Similarly, R9 fetched it in 2002 for the World Cup victory, and Cannavaro won it in 2006 for the same reason. Modric claimed it in 2018 for steering Croatia to the final. However, it seems to become a contentious issue only when Messi is the subject. Clearly, there’s clear bias against Messi, driven by casuals like Ronaldo fangirls. They obviously didn’t want Messi to add another Ballon d'Or to his tally, and they most certainly did not wish to see the gap between Messi and Ronaldo in terms of Ballon d'Or wins grow even larger.
*>B-bu-but Messi only scored penalties DURRRR*
You don't set a World Cup record by being the MOTM in 5 out of the 7 games just because you took set pieces. You earn the title of the best player in the entire competition by carrying inexperienced players and again contributing to almost every goal Argentina scored. Additionally, Messi has set WC records such as being involved in more goals than any other player on record (13 goals, 8 assists), and creating the most chances in World Cup history (72 overall and 52 in open play). It's worth noting that Modric, who only scored 2 goals, won the Ballon d'Or due to his overall contribution to Croatia.
So If these casuals knew anything about football, they would’ve known that Messi didn't just score penalties and do nothing else. He singlehandedly saved and carried Argentina to World Cup glory with his playmaking abilities and his crucial goals and assists. There’s a reason why he’s the only player in history to win 2 WC golden balls.
*>B-bu-but the Ballon d'Or is magically rigged for Messi HURRRR*
Remember In 2018 Messi singlehandedly won Barca the domestic double (unlike Haaland who ghosted in every final City played) and carried Barca to the UCL Quarter Finals and Argentina to the World Cup qualification, additionally he scored 51 goals in 54 matches representing both club and country, and winning the European golden boot. Messi had the most goals, assists, chances created and dribbles completed in La Liga that 2018 season. *Despite this, he astonishingly didn't even crack the top 4 in the Ballon d'Or rankings, his ranking was 5th. So much for the award being rigged for Messi*
So, breaking league records is suddenly more valuable than triumphing in the highest football tournament with a band of inexperienced players?? How could league stats outweigh a World Cup performance and victory?
They obviously don't, but we all know casuals (mainly Ronaldo fans) with zero ball knowledge employ all sorts of mental gymnastics to claim that Messi didn’t deserve it. They would rather have anyone else win the award, even the likes of Lukaku or Maguire. Simply because they didn’t want the Ballon d'Or gap between Messi and Ronaldo to get even bigger.
*Conclusion:* Haaland deserves the Golden Boot or the Müller award, but not the Ballon d'Or. The latter award is meant for players who have made a significant impact on their club or country, beyond just statistics. Therefore, he didn't earn those trophies (the Treble) since he went missing; KDB carried him, and 90% of his goals were tap-ins, seriously even his "highlights" showed that when he was presented with the Gerd Müller trophy.

His numbers were amazing, just like Haaland and Mbappe(G/A 63, 66 and 66). The biggest difference is not that he won the WC, he was the heart of the Argentina team. he carried the team. He was the Captain. The big chances created for club and country. Match ratings. I personally don't think Haaland is better than Mbappe. He is a phenomenal striker, but he also has a whole team of Ballon d'Or nominees. You have Alvarez, Rodri, Silva and De Bruyne feeding him with precised passes. I think Mbappe would have won the Ballon d'Or if he won the WC. The WC final was one of the most exciting finals in WC history. At the end it is a media award and the WC tilted the balance towards Messi.

I feel like world cup should have greater importance. I say this not just because it happens once in 4 years, but also because it happens between national teams. Manchester city missed out on the ucl against chelsea, so they could sign key players using money. you cant do the same for national teams. In international matches, you need to rely on talent produced by your nation, whereas any club, not just man city, can spend a couple of hundred million euros to sign players to improve their squad

    • @vx1762
      @vx1762 Před 6 měsíci +1

That's exactly why WC should have less importance. You can be the best in the world but if you are born in a country that doesn't have a good team (Halland for example) you are never going to win a WC. If you are a great player you have a chance to go to great teams. But you can't change where you are born.
If Messi played for Korea for example, he would never have a WC. Doesn't matter how good he is. Halland goes to city because of his own talent, not cause he was born into it

    • @felixfire9513
      @felixfire9513 Před 6 měsíci

@@vx1762 if youre that good a player, you should he able to show it on the pitch and make an impact. Like he said if you take out messi from argentina and replace with haaland, then argentina would definitely have lost the world cup.
Also like big game performances are very important i would say, cuz all or your goals could be from scoring against bad teams. It shows you ghost in big matches and cant score goals against teams better than you
Also like world cup went from being the most prestigious tournament to being a 7 game tournament. Winning the world cup is like completing football. There is a reason people win more than 1 champions league. Its cuz it happens every year and if a team loses one year, they can win the next. Cr7 lost in 2012, and then ended up winning 4 of them. Whereas World cup, generally footballers only win 1 of (unless your name is pele) look at Germany. They won it in 2014, but have failed to qualify out of the group stages in the next two. Brazil have always been favorites to win it but they havent even come to the final after winning it in 2002

@@felixfire9513 put Messi on Norway and he won't even quality to the WC. You are saying Argentina doesn't have a good team which is false. And with your logic, why didn't Messi won the CL then? If he is that good of a player? Are you going to Blame his team?
Haaland beat the EPL goals record
Haaland completed a tremble which hasn't been won in 20 years
Haaland is tied with Messi in most goals in a single game in the CL. (He actually wins against Messi cause he had less minutes)
Messi won the WC and was the best player of the tournament
Messi won the french league (which is full of bad teams so by your logic those performances shouldn't count)
Messi lost to Benfica in the CL by goals and then got immediately eliminated by Bayern in the CL.
Aside from the WC, Messi hasn't done anything meaningful. Even if he wasn't on PSG, they'd still win the league. Without Haaland they wouldn't win the tremble. Impact wise, Haaland was more important then Messi.
Also a EPL tremble hasn't been won since 1999. It's harder to win a EPL tremble then it is for a WC. Just because you have more opportunities to win it doesn't mean it's easier, this isn't FIFA career mode where you can reset the game. And winning the WC is more determined by which country you are born and what generation you are born. Take a look at CR7. In his prime, he had no team to play with. Now at 38 years old, he has a really good team to play with but now he is old.
The other thing I want to mention is in the last 20 years you have 66 players winning the WC (not counting subs). In the last 20 years you have 20 players winning 4 CL. Your statistics saying it's harder to win a WC vs 4 CL doesn't add up here.

2 reasons people tend to bring up to defend the ‘rigged’ allegations are:
    - Most of his goals in the World Cup were penalties
    - He does much more for Argentina than scoring penalties. You should have watched their games.
    - He ghosted for PSG
    - While he wasn’t at his best in the Champions League, he scored 16 goals and made 16 assists in Ligue 1 (which is admittedly average for his level, but spectacular for any Ligue 1 player apart from Mbappé). Many people don’t care about Ligue 1 and probably assumed that his 2022/23 Ligue 1 stats are similar to 2021/22.
Although I do think Messi deserved it, there is one player who deserved it more: Rodri. He won the treble, was in PFA’s Team of the Year, named the Champions League’s Player of the Season, won the UEFA Nations League and won the Player of the Tournament of the UEFA Nations League. The World Cup is a little overweighted as a criterion for individual awards imo.
    1. Rodri
    2. Messi
    3. Haaland
    4. Mbappé

Sorry for interruption but saying that madrid fans didn't want messi to win a ballon d'or was pretty generalised. Been supporting the club since 2009 but I think Messi deserves every success he's a part of. Yeah, this was a very close call but Worldcup campaigns really put an emphasis on player's ballon d'or. For example, Nazario 2002, Cannavaro 2006, Modric 2018. People just try to bring the stats for ballon d'or forgetting the other criterias. Zizou didn't have more than 30 G/A in 1998 but he won the worldcup and hence after that stellar impact he had on the french team made him a winner! Feelin sad for halaand though. But Messi's stats were as justifiable as Haaland's. Thanks for giving the extra point to halaand though! It neutralised the career criteria. That was a BS filter for ballon d'or tbf. I'd give to Haaland 5-6, and 5-5 without the extra point. because I think the breaking records, talking about who broke the more important and longevity records, would go to Haaland. I'm just excited to see the points, and how close their point rating was to see how the journalists think, which I don't know if they will drop this year. This was certainly a pretty close one, but I'd edge it out to Haaland by a tiny, very very very tiny bit. The good thing is that if Haaland certainly thinks he was robbed, and it doesn't effect his mental health, just his anger, he could use this as motivation. Emo stage Haaland is entering the chat.

Two main things I disagree on with the analysis here.
1.1 PSG and ManCity aren't that different in terms of quality of the team that it would make sense to dismiss the achievments.
1.2 Ligue 1 however is different enough in terms of quality to the EPL that it would make sense to value stats in EPL more than in Ligue 1. PSG is simply farming the Ligue 1
2.1 Haaland playing for Norway, there is virtually no chance ever for their team to ever win a World Cup.
2.2 Argentina is a much better national team and will always have more chances to go all the way (as opposed to players evolving in teams such as Croatia, Portugal, Norway, Belgium...)
2.3 Therefore the Ballon D'Or shouldn't give this much attention to players advancing far in a WC. It's simply stupid. Haaland will never win a WC with Norway. Time to stop this nonsense.
2.4 Haaland is therefore doomed to only ever "score points" for the Ballon D'Or in non-WC or EC years and achieving a club treble is the most anyone could ask him for.
Conclusion: Ballon D'Or is based on unfair criterias. The better player was Haaland and criterias need to reflect that more. If you want to hand out awards based on collective performances, then you should create a section that gives an honorific title to a whole team, not just a single player. And you should absolutely take into account the different opportunities/priviledges players have with regards to one another. A player that was born in Brazil, France, Germany or Argentina will always have an unfair advantage to one born in a country that produces less talented footballers. That's simply not fair.

ehhhmmm mbappe had a better season at psg than messi last year btw, and you can argue he had a better world cup aswell with a hattrick in the final. Or if you count penaltys you can argue messi almost kept up with mbappe but messi fans hates players who scores on penaltys so i guess they dosent count. problem is playing out of a top 5 league in Europe kinda makes you league stats usless. And his cl stats where non existing aswell so he kinda won the Ballon D'or from 8 games in a world cup and that is kinda suss. And a trebble in PL (biggest league and best league in the world) happens 1 time every 25+ yaer so winnning trebble is a bigger achivment than winning a world cup. And breaking so many reacords in that same season should be reworded. And you can say messi broke a tone of records at the world cup but when every record he broke is time played and matches played its not really that impressive and dosent say anyting about his balling skills last year.

Personally, I believe that haaland deserved it as erling haaland is the first ever player to score 36 goals in a 38 game premier league season and he won the treble an achievement that only one other team in premier league history has achieved. I do believe that Messi is amazing but I don’t think that he would get anywhere near to Haalands goal record if he played for city. Erling has also always been very prolific if it was for Norway 🇳🇴 or for Salzburg etc so I believe he would be able to lead that Argentine team to glory therefore meaning he had a better individual season.

Answer this, which is better a treble or a WC?
I'm sure if Haaland would pick the WC, more so a majority of footballers would. People down play the WC, if Haaland's and Messi's roles were reversed I'm sure Haaland would prefer the WC, no doubt. Here's one better if it were possible, gather all the footballers in the world and ask, which would you rather to win, a Ballon d'Or or a WC? You bet the majority would pick the WC. Hence, Haaland deserved it, but Messi deserved it a bit more. I've made my point if every one would prefer the WC, then the Ballon d'Or winner is Messi, not to mention his stats in the WC give him a huge boost, I think him getting the golden ball played just as much of a part as the actual title when deciding the Ballon d'Or winner.
So, Messi didn't win the B D'Or only because of the WC but because of the WC and what he did in the WC (Argentina on a whole). If your looking at it in this way. But that doesn't mean you should forget what he did for PSG as well.
People think because it say Haaland 50+Goals in 50+ games means he scored in every game, and when you think of it Haaland had his goals from high scoring matches, not that I'm downplaying him, but Messi made an impact in more games and that's why he has more MOTM. Look at it this way Messi made more contributions in more games but Haaland had more contributions in a game. Here something to think about who was more exciting when playing [all matches played in].
The Ballon d'Or is for the entire season, and Messi had a more impactful role on his team, in terms of matches.Haaland has 3 trophies so does Messi, farmers leagues or not they did deserve to win those titles because they played to win. PSG is not at fault that the other teams cant get big investors.
Haaland broke alot of records yes but so did Messi, and more so Messi's records are more diverse. Haaland broke those records because of one thing his goals Messi broke his records based on all his different qualities he displayed during his performances goals etc, and you all need to realize that he did these while at 35 (retiring age with practically noobs not all ofc) while Haaland is still in his prime, early 20s while also a fricking tank, playing for arguable the best team in Europe, with WC top value players. Why wouldn't they win the treble. So don't say it was robbed, cause the last time I check Messi didn't ask for it and he made that clear. The guy was just playing the most exciting WC and they gave him, not his fault he's just to good.
    Lastly,
    AFTER CHAMPIONS LEAUGE FINAL
Commentators, sport fans, sport analysts, England, Europe - Man city won the treble
    (Except some youtubers etc)
    AFTER WC
Commentators, sport fans, sport analysts, Argentina, The World - Messi won the WC
Say what you want but I don't see Haaland sleeping with all the trophies (I just wanted to say this part)
Before you all say I'm bias I just want to say, I'm a CITY fan 100% and a Messi fan 100%, so dont say I hate Haaland because I'm well aware of what he did for my club

wc is the most difficult and prestigious tournament. if your nation is bad, you will just need to carry them as far as possible, while if you play in man city, all you need to do is stand where pep tells you, while the rest of the team does their job, you kick the ball 3 times per game and score 3 goals. its much easier to make a well oiled machine in club football, and thats why imo haaland didnt deserve to win the award under any circumstances, he didnt carry the team and he was not the reason his team won, he was just the goalscorer in the best team in the world, he arguably did the easiest job in the team.

I would disagree on individual performance. Haaland had one critiera were he performed well in goalscoring and yes that it is very important and he was amazing at it. Messi however can do everything on the field that you could imayine from a player. He had the most chances created, a ton of assists, the most dribbles and the 3rd most goals. He had 162 successful dribbles which is more then 3x what haaland had. He had roughly 130 chances created which is one of the best stats out of any player this season. He had 26 Assists(2nd most this season). In my opinion Messi performed incredibly well in every critiera there is for individual performance, he also had the highest G/A(67) our of any player. No disrespect towards Haaland, he had a fantastic season and Im sure that he'll win a ballon dor in the near future.

Messi is one of a kind, many Ronaldo fans use to argue about past ballon d'ors being undeserving, however I always thought that those are nonsense but as time goes by the favourism towards Messi is surfacing up and I'm really unhappy coz there is a saying "even the smallest lie can break the biggest trust" due to this kind of unwanted favourism Messi whole achievements seems to be diluted. If it goes on everything goes down the drain. Messi himself was upset about the refree favouring towards him. An average player would have been more than happy if a refree was favouring a player but Messi being a legend just couldn't take it.

All Haaland does is stand around in the box and wait for someone to pass the ball; he's incapable of creating his own goals like true great strikers such as R9. That’s why he ghosts in every big game like the UCL Final, UCL Semi-Final, UEFA Super Cup, FA Cup Final, and the Community Cup Final and KDB has to carry him. City could’ve won the treble without him but Argentina would’ve got eliminated by Mexico without Messi, that’s undeniable FACT.

World Cup is the greatest trophy in football, but that's just on papers. It's among all national teams and it happens every 4 years, but it's just 7 games long and those teams are not at their best form nor is World Cup the highest level of football. On the other hand, Premier League is the hardest league and Champions League is the highest level of football. Haaland deserve it.

Messi deserved the second point, he won World Cup, ligue 1, finalisima, french super cup, trophée de champions. Halaand won Premier League, FA Cup, and UCL.
Then records, Haaland didn't broke any record by scoring 5 goals, he equalized it. Messi's broken records are: most trophies won by a footballer, most dribbles in world cup tournaments, Argentina highest scorer in world cup tournaments, player with most goal contributions in world cup tournaments (g+a), First player to score and assist in 4 different world cup editions, highest number of MOTM's in world cup tournaments First and only footballer with 2 Laureus award.

You keep on calling Argentina an inexperience team, which is heavily inaccurate. Sure, they have some young players, but then they have Di Maria, Lautaro Martinez, Emi Martinez, all players who were essential to the WC win. Besides, if what you said is true, Iniesta or Xavi deserved a Ballon d'Or for their performance and victory in 2010 WC. But no, Messi got it because of individual stats and more success on the club level.

You seem to not understand what I'm saying: those two players, other than Di Maria, are inexperienced when it comes to the WORLD CUP, the biggest stage in football. The fact that they contributed to Argentina doesn't change that fact.
And simply the reason why Messi won the 2010 Ballon d'Or when Iniesta and Xavi were world champions was that, unlike Messi's Argentina and Modric's Croatia, there wasn't a single player you could say he alone carried Spain, and without whom the team wouldn't go anywhere. Simply put, Spain's team was stacked with prime Barca/Madrid players, and again, there wasn't a single player who outshone the others. This, combined with the shared votes among Xavi, Iniesta, Villa, and Casillas, resulted in no standout winner, even Xavi himself said it when asked why he or Iniesta didn't win it. In fact, the Ballon d'Or total votes for each of top 3 players were as follows:
      1. Messi = 22.7% votes
      2. Iniesta = 17.4% votes
      3. Xavi = 16.5% votes
You can observe the closeness of the total votes, which reinforces the shared votes between those two players.

Imo the only question left to ask is:
“Would Manchester City win the ucl if Haaland wasn’t there ?”
We will probably never find an answer to this question, some may argue and say that Haaland was invisible during the semi and the final match but I could simply answer that you cannot determine the outcome of these matches.I mean even the mere presence of Haaland on that team was a cause of huge fear amongst the opponent and a huge moral boost amongst Manchester City.

He was the highest rated player in top 5 leagues, had the highest number of man of the matches, the only award that is based on individual performances. Haaland was a good striker. He did not iconic performances in the season except in a few matches, less MOMs and was statistically rated lower. In very aspect of the game, except for the number of goals scored, Messi had a better season.

the indivual performances are a no-brainer for Messi. Haaland plays as a striker(and is phenomenal at that) but there are many more aspects of playing as a forward. I think the fact that Messi was also making plays, assisting, and making crucial passes all over the pitch is a major factor in him being an overall better "player". Other factors such as Haaland not registering a single goal or assist during all the semi-finals and finals, and the WC usually being prioritised for the Ballon d'or definitely played a role as well. Haaland definitely deserved the ballon d'or, no doubt about it, but not more than Messi this season.

The player that fouls brutally, cheats in other ways, playing selfishly and not for the team should not get the Ballon d'or. I think this is why Mbappe hasn't won a Ballon and most probably won't. His bad, selfish behaviour has made him unpopular. Pple vote. And they vote on the fair play criteria too.

The World Cup is not a good tournament to base a ballon dor win on. It's 1 month of the year, you can only win it if you were born in a very small number of countries and almost all the games are against teams who may not even have all their players playing in a top league or even a top division. Argentina had one game where you could say the opposition was world class and that was the final.
