Well, my question is why Beckham never win one? He was the most popular athletes before CR7 and Messi reach their prime. CR7 more popular than Messi why Messi wins more? Neymar is the most popular athletes after CR7 and Messi. Why instead Modric and Benzema win in 2018 and 2022?
It's honestly insane that these 2 men held on to their positions for so long. You have the all time greats that are obviously really good for most of their careers but for these 2 to have been constantly compared to each other for close to 2 decades with very few even coming close to their level and dominating the Ballon D'or the way they did was something special. We all have our pick for who is the better player but I think in pitting these 2 against each other, the world of football took for granted exactly what was happening in front of our eyes
Well, if you did some research you ll see that Ballon d or changed its rules at the start of this domination, a lot of non- football countries were included as voters. So Ballon d or went from players and coaches votes to viewer votes, and basically became the Ballon of popularity.

Ok, here's the thing. CR7 for example because he win 5 ball on d'or with Portugal just won 2016 Euro in his national team career. So, by your logic he only deserve the ball on d'or in 2016. But, no. He win 5. Why? his performance in 2008, 2014, and 2017 was insane. Clearly not a human. Even in 2013 he win nothing. But 69 goals in 2013 calendar year with 60+ goals for 4 calendar years in a row (2011-2014 before his injury) and 50+ goals for 7 calendar years in a row (2011-2017 as both LW and ST) is outstanding. I still say he deserve 5 because he deserve 2018 over Modric by stats even though Modric bring Croatia to WC final. But, of course just because his 2013 are amazing without any trophies he didn't deserve the 2013 one over Ribery.

Xavi and Iniesta both deserved a Ballon d'Or but they were playing with Messi in his peak so was hard to look past his insane numbers. Lewandoski was robbed of at least one ballon d'Or if not two but the award I am most upset about is Virgil Van Dyke. The guy was just incredible for a 2 year period and as flawless a defender since Maldini, he deserved the award over Messi who by his standards had an average season. He has not been the same since Pickford's stupid challenge took his leg off and I doubt he will ever get back to his peak.

So, from this list only Torres, Ribery, NEUER, Van Dijk, Lewandowski, and HAALAND that deserve their ball on d'or if they're not exist? i would argue the 2009-2012, 2018, and 2022 though. Why? in 2009-2012 Xavi and Iniesta are the strongest reason Messi can get his ball on d'or that time. Plus they're doing amazing in Spain too. For 2018 this is a tough debate. But 2017-2018 Madrid squad are the strongest team in UCL get their hattrick UCL too. Plus Modric did amazing in 2018 WC carry Croatia to final with Perisic and battle current prime France which we knew the strongest nation today. That's why he won 2018 above Ronaldo that time even though Ronaldo have far better stats. And lastly 2022. No question needed. Ronaldo already leave Madrid for 3 seasons in Juventus and already going downhill since his comeback to MU. And Benzema totally on fire in 2021-2022 seasons. You could argue Vinicius is the reason why Benzema can take that ball on d'or. But not every assist can easily make goals and Benzema nailed it that seasons. Only Mane and KDB can challenge him but not quite as great. So, he deserve.
