Thank you so much...I am a silly old fifty year old english guy teaching myself the alto sax. I want to play the blues, because I love the blues. All the jazz guys talk about the blues, but they don't play the real thing. You do. I just love what you do with the sax.

Mr. Walker, I'd like to thank first off. I find your videos entertaining and very in depth educating. I like how you make it fun for a beginner to actually start playing something and it gives me motivation to keep playing rather than start out like basic music school and blow and A to start with. That's boring to me. Your humor his also epic. I started sax when I was 8 years old, put it down then back up at 21 yrs old and then again Now at 42 year's I'm still having a passion for this instrument. I live in Northern California, I would love to meet you and personally take a few one on one lessons with you. Thanks again your a awesome player and have some beautiful horns.

After searching for so long for a good video I finally fucking found one! I just like music that is why I picked it up. It is amazing how awful the other videos are. Seems like people aren't playing for love of music but to impress someone else.

Pls keep posting your by far the best Sax teacher on You Tube, I started learning the G Major scale then switched to a G blues scale, Should I concentrate on just the Major scales to start with?

The greatest saxophone player in the WHOLE WIDE WORLD, NO ONE SURPASSES HIM, THOSE ON UTUBE DO NOT EVEN COME CLOSE, IS BOB HENDERSON WHO PLAYS FOR JIMMY SWAGGART MINISTRIES, IF YOU DOUBT IT GO HEAR HIM PLAY. HIS CHEEKS DO NOT EVEN PUFF OUT AS HE MAKES IT SCREAM AND SQUALL THE BLUES.

hi derrick pleased to meet you.
I like how you show the keys and explain the notes i have been teaching myself on and off for several months now and my notes are flat or some days i can not play at all, very frustrating sometimes and feel like i have let myself down.
I just want to play like others ie experienced as i put it,I am probably trying to rush it.
I have managed to teach myself Madness one step Beyond and this sounds in tune only some times i get a loud squeak i dnt know why this is ?
I never new that the small key at the bottom was a c
Are there any bands like Madness or Speacials etc that play the sax as i love this type of music or do you know of any reggea thats simlar.
Any advise on playing the sax would be highly apreciated.
    kindest regards
    April

With the very greatest of respect to Derrick, telling a newbie that they need to go out and buy a pre war vintage horn to play blues is spectacularly bad advice. Vintage horns mostly have tuning 'quirks', many will have worn keywork which will be difficult to keep in regulation and have old fashioned ergonomics which make them less comfortable to play than a modern horn. A new player does not need to be struggling against that when they are learning. Also, to say that you can't play the blues on a modern sax is just complete bollocks!
